How should they handle Bulma's next appearance in Super?

Post by precita » Sun Nov 19, 2017 5:53 pm

As we all know by now, Bulma's VA sadly passed away a few days ago. Bulma however is too important a character for Super to just ignore or phase out like they could do with some minor characters.

We most likely will see Bulma again right after the tournament of power arc ends and the main cast returns to Earth. How should they handle her next appearance? Just have her written as normal with a new VA? Should she have a reduced role and appear less in future episodes?

It's such a shame, especially given her chemistry with Whis', but I would strongly prefer not to hear another voice for a very significant period of time. It would be really nice if they could just avoid using the character for a couple or several years.

It'll be very difficult to write her off. I guess they could have the next arc take place somewhere else, like Sadala, and we dont get cutaways to Earth.

There are plenty of talented VAs in Japan. All they need to do is a casting and find a sound-alike who can act, there's not much more to it really.

Bulma's been too integral to Super (outside of the tournament portions of this arc), I say just keep going, but with the new/replacement voice actress.

All they need to do is find someone that can do a great voice for her.

Not matter the losses, the show must go on. Bulma may still be as prominent in the future as she was earlier in Super, and I don't want that to change.

They will find a new seiyuu to voice the character and the show will continue as planned.

But will they make some in-show reference about how her voice is different?

What options are there?

I don't see them retiring the character of Bulma because she has been an integral part of Dragon Ball since the beginning.

It is more likely that they will find a voice actress that can approximate her voice. There won't be any in-universe explanation to any change in her voice. The voice actress for Ribrianne sort of sounds similar.

But if there is, the most likely explanation would be immediately after the ToP there is a time skip and Bulma sounds "older".

They should handle it the same way they would have if the VA didn't die. There are plenty of talented VA in japan that can step in for bulma. Why are people act like its bulma that died? Bulma is alive and well as far as we know.

Just find a replacement and continue as normal.
Toyotarō: … I get the feeling I’ve just heard something amazing (laughs). Lord Beerus and Whis turn up in Dragon Ball Super, and have become an unsurpassable wall for Goku and the gang. What do the two of them mean to you?

Toriyama: Well… First off, right now I don’t have any plans for Goku and Vegeta to surpass Beerus and Whis.

I believe that would be the best way to honor her.

Just recast her and write as they usually do.
July 9th 2018 will be remembered as the day Broly became canon.

I imagine they'll just cast somebody and be done with it. If it's a veteran I suspect Inoue Kikukou or Orikasa Fumiko, the latter of which Morita Masakazu has much experience working with. If it's someone younger I suspect they'll cast Sawashiro Miyuki.

No. I don't see the reason why they should.

That woudln’t Be nice at all, the way i see it.

Retiring Bulma for years would be a dishonor to her VA. She would want the character to live on rather than be forgotten for years.

I think doing her justice is keeping Bulma and probably giving her an even bigger role.
I called it that Gogeta, Bardock, and something Broly related would be in the movie before it was even announced that it was a Broly movie. 8)

There'll be at least several months from now until the end of the Tournament of Power, which gives them a good window of time to start looking for a suitable replacement; additionally, if they want a little more time for the wounds to have healed, having the next arc take place on Planet Sadala would make a lot of sense.

While we're on the topic of Hiromi-san, let us all pay our respects to such a lovely and talented woman. May she rest in peace.

Folks: they recast Lupin III. They will have no problem recasting Blooma.
