Dragon Ball Super Broly - $32,344,131
That's the only figure out right now. Even though it's specific to the dollar it is still an estimate.
When and if other figures come out later maybe we can determine how well it's done in different markets but that could probably be over $2.5 million outside of Japan.

Alright we got some details now.
The movie did $3.32 million for the weekend which is pretty much the same as last weekend.
That includes $1.7 million in Brazil so in 4 days it's already outgrossed Resurrection F's $1.2 million total and made as much as Battle of Gods total.
It made $1.6 million in Japan for the weekend. I don't know for sure but I believe that's for the 2 day which means it's probably done a bit better on the weekend than I thought. The total they're giving is $29.7 million which is little better than I had it at.
That might work out at $450,000 then for Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand's second weekend combined.
Next week should be a good one because we've got Argentina, Chile, Peru, Columbia and Mexico. Those were amongst Resurrection F's strongest markets particularly Mexico.

Re: Dragon Ball Super: Broly Box Office Thread
Finally we have some actuals.
As of January 6th the movie has grossed ¥3.35 billion with 2.6 million tickets sold. That's about $30 million give or take.
So it's going to need another ¥400 million if its to become the highest grossing in the series. Today looks like it's going to do maybe ¥35-40 million. Tomorrow is the very last bank holiday so it should see a boost and then begins the slow trek to pass it.

Re: Dragon Ball Super: Broly Box Office Thread
That's not too bad at all. Battle of Gods sold 2.34 million tickets and Resurrection F sold 2.81 million. So it ain't far off from being the highest. At the least Broly will beat those ticket sales.
Monday was easily the weakest day so far. If we scale it to the weekend and what it grossed there then it should have grossed ¥38 million ($350,000). So comfortably past ¥3.4 billion tomorrow to the point where it could potentially pass ¥3.5 billion on Wednesday.

A specific gross, good find. Be mindful of the US gross because the exchange rate has been changing up a bit since the movie came out. That $9.3 million that it opened with is almost $9.7 million now.Lujin_16 wrote:3.354.780.500 billion Yen = 30.969.729,99 US Dollar

Re: Dragon Ball Super: Broly Box Office Thread
So as it turns out the person who listed the Japanese holiday dates made a mistake so it's actually not the 8th that's a bank holiday but the 14th instead so it's going to be a three day weekend.
Today it's looking like it's done ¥17 million ($156,000) so it should be at ¥3.41 billion (about $30.6 million). That's a big drop from yesterday but everything dropped too.
It's also not likely to be making ¥4 billion anymore from what I'm told but it should pass Resurrection F.

Re: Dragon Ball Super: Broly Box Office Thread
The holiday period was decent, but didn't give it as much of a boost I had thought. Although, I guess it was to be expected with the front loaded nature of the franchise and its narrow appeal.
Expecting a ¥3.8-3.9 billion finish.

Re: Dragon Ball Super: Broly Box Office Thread
I'm a bit mixed on its performance in Japan. I'm glad it's most likely going to be the most successful in the series and it is a lot of money for what it is but I thought it was going to do more than a few percent more than the last one. Toei apparently did also if they predicted ¥5 billion and it's probably not going to make $4 billion. I know it wasn't likely going to make that ¥5 billion but I did think it would be closer.
They're releasing a 4DX Broly Edition in a few days. Not sure how much impact it will have but it's better than nothing.
On the other hand though it's overseas performance has been fantastic so far. In Malaysia, Thailand and Brazil it's opening weekend already eclipsed the whole run of Resurrection F and I wasn't expecting that at all either.
I hear the presales are really good in Chile too.

The movie appears to have done ¥16 million ($150,000) today. A bit disappointing because the movie has increased on previous Wednesdays, most other movies did increase today but Broly is one of the few that didn't.
The total should be around ¥3.425 billion ($30.75 million).

Re: Dragon Ball Super: Broly Box Office Thread
Movie did about ¥13 million ($120,000) today. Total around ¥3.438 billion ($30.87 million).
Today will likely be the movies single highest grossing day it will have it it's entire run because it releases in Argentina, Colombia, Peru, Bolivia and Mexico today.
In Peru, the presales are over double what Resurrection F's were in about half the time. This was also posted on the Twitter account of a theatre chain.
"We are only 3 thousand tickets away to overcome the record of spectators of a midnight premiere in the history of Cineplanet!
Our record film is Avengers: Infinity War.
Can we overcome it?"
In Mexico the movie will likely beat Aquaman to open to #1.
In Chile the presales are the second highest ever only behind Infinity War. It's the only non Hollywood movie that gets treated as a blockbuster there. It will almost certainly open at #1 and will fly past the previous two movies.
In Argentina I'm sure it will do far better in local currency but because the exchange rate has gone down the crapper it's not likely to make anything like the last two movies in US currency.

Re: Dragon Ball Super: Broly Box Office Thread
Box Office Mojo updated the gross so that as of January 6th it's made $33.52 million. I still believe that's lower than the actuality though.
A long way to go in the day yet but Friday isn't looking very good. I hope that's not a sign of a poor weekend to come because it's still a ways off passing Resurrection F yet.
Resurrection F I think did about $17 million in South America. Broly will make more but with it losing out on Argentina this time around...I can't see it making as much as $30 million.

Well it's probably gonna make around $35 million in Japan so it'd need like $30 million from South America alone to surpass it but that still would not be likely to happen.Lujin_16 wrote:It must make 35 Mio in South America so not that impossibile right??
