NO, absolutely not. You'd be spending $350 on a legit inferior version of the show.

Way to screw over fans, Funi.

Why even go through this effort if you aren't gonna do it right? Smh.

So are these new Blu Rays just the 2013 Blu Rays uncropped in 4:3??

Here are comparisons of the 3 main shots people are focusing on between the 30th Anniversary and the Japanese Dragon Box Z (though the Raditz one isn't the exact same frame I just noticed). Ignore the subtitles, those were added myself, this is authentic, lossless Japanese Dragon Box Z footage:

Because there isn't much effort going into it. They're taking what they already have and basically making it worse. The art book seems to just have old art such as their covers and the figure is a resued one with a head and arm change. It's easy $$$. If effort went into this it would be double the price.

This has even less footage than the original 4:3 as they seemingly cropped their 16:9 version back to 4:3 with some odd zoom. I'm not a video expert but that's what I got from people who understand what's going on.

You give them your credit card number in order to reserve your copy. No idea when they charge it
Looking for these rare items/information:

Any information or recordings pertaining to Dragon Ball Z's syndicated run on WAWB
Any information regarding the stations that carried the origin Dragon Ball in the USA
Dragon Box (any deals would be nice)
Shonen Jumps with Dragon Ball in them

You have until early May or before 6,000 units are sold. Whichever happens first. There will be a pre-authorization hold but the actual payment shouldn't be taken until May.

It's basically the Blu-ray remaster in 4:3. The image with the crowd looks worse though but maybe it's just the size of the picture giving that impression.

They probably don't want to give you time to think about it and possibly change your mind.

Don't get me wrong I don't mind to pay this but they said it won't charge until may. My idea was like cool I can secure my copy and save up extra to drop on it but okay..

It's a FUNimation release so it will have US Broadcast audio and it's 4:3 so sure take my money but damn.

Did you use a debit card? According to that page the funds will be withheld if that's what you do. If you used a credit card and got charged then yeah that's not right.

If there's any question that Funimation has any idea what their fans want, no they don't.

The Orange sets and Blu-Rays sold very well so they aren't wrong. It's a shame it couldn't get a remaster like the one Batman the animated series got recently.

392/3000 now.

I have no doubt this will meet it's goal and even get up to the 6,000 limit. Not everyone owns the Dragon Boxes, so this may very well be the best option some fans have that doesn't compromise the aspect ratio to the extent other releases have. It's not ideal 4:3, but it's being used as a selling point nonetheless.

Most interestingly, no mention on the audio masters being used. I'm foing to take a guess and say it will be an exact duplicate to what was used on the season sets. If FUNimation isn't going to take the time to properly remaster the video, I can't see them taking the time to sync up all the broadcast audio files to it.

It's zoomed in but it doesn't look like it's missing as much footage as this new release is.
Wait... is that seriously all that's cropped on the blue bricks? I swear I've seen far worse comparisons than that. Why do people even complain about that?

If that's the case, then I stand corrected. The cropping for this 30th set is worse, though still not a straight crop of the existing 16:9 frame.

EDIT: Managed to find an example of what I've been used to seeing regarding the blue bricks.

Personally, I'm holding out on the Blue Bricks and planning on waiting for a US DB Dragon Box release. The blue brick's quality is just too severely zoomed in for me.

Well, on the plus side, I was planning on spending (up to) $500 for a really good remaster, best case scenario. Now I can order that really nice Star Trek The Next Generation Blu-Ray remaster for $160 and still have plenty of money left over for something else that's worthwhile.
