Why were 4:3 AR screenshots used on the Orange Bricks?

That's confusing because they promoted it as a widescreen transfer but they featured full screen episode screenshots.

I'd imagine it's to help them fit better on the little strip there (irony).

This line of releases is rife with false advertising, what's it matter if the screenshots on the slip cover don't accurately represent the product either?
This is the episode of when Gokuh enrages himself after Freezer talk shit about Kuririn

It's clear they just made all of the packaging before the remastering was even done, considering they''re all screenshots using their old digibeta masters.

I've always wondered this too and it's such a shame because it would have sold much more if it was 4:3.

Are those actual screenshots or are they pictures of the animation cels? It looks like Funi used the latter for most of their single DVD covers and people mistake them for screenshots (which they are, effectively, just in much higher quality). The last one is the same artwork as the Kid Boo: A New Beginning DVD cover. They might have just used the existing promo artwork they had to hand.

It certainly would have. These are screenshots below are directly from "Season 9" and they look damn good, unfortunately it was cropped to a fake 16:9 AR.

I'm guessing that insult to Super Boo may end up being modified for the upcoming 30th Blu-ray release. And who knows, maybe FUNimation will be forced to use "Frieza", "Tien", "Krillin", "Buu", etc on the subs.

I wondered this too.. I mean they advertised these sets as "the way it was meant to be seen!" so they had to have 4x3 somewhere

I mean, I suppose technically the image would fit in a 4:3 aspect ratio, but it appears even more is chopped off the top and bottom than the 16:9 image, and more is chopped off the left and right than the 4:3 Dragon Box. It's a true double crop. Or even a triple crop, if you will. I hate to throw shade but shouldn't hardcore fans have noticed immediately that those pictures were horribly cramped and in no way "full screen"? :eh:

it's commercial way, companies have to seduce custumers, if the footage is jerk then using cels or better image should be fine , anyway when you have buyed the dvd, it's already too late.

A little like all countless upscale bluray where you NEVER SEE any screenshot before it is release, only hear about "NEW HD REMASTER" etc but when you see the product (after you buy it) then...........it's already too late

that's also why i can say 100% that selecta vision db bluray will be upscale for sure . yamato italia was saying the same things about dragon ball movies bluray box and it was only dragon box footage upscaled in HD with fake pcm audios nothing more
I asked them screenshot saying them that i was part of a forum fans that talk about their release and that could be a nice promotion...they told me "we can't show any screenshot" and then never answered after that

Funny enough, Amazon has the screenshots and they definitely look like the singles

What's ironic is the Dragon Books included with the Dragon Box Z release has cropped widescreen screencaps, I think someone at Funimation definitely had an inverted brain when making these things.

Those screens look surprisingly good and better preserved than the Season Sets in 4:3 aka the Black Brick. :P

No, I read it and it's interesting. So FUNimation made fake/zoomed in 4:3 AR screenshots for a product they were (and still are) selling in 16:9 AR. FUNimation does not help in bringing fans together cause they've split fans to two sides, one that prefer the true AR and others that prefer the fake 16:9 AR.
