honestly i think this is the much bigger and more prominent issue within a lot of anime fandoms and stuff. like most everyone has said, there's nothing really inherently wrong with finding drawings attractive or whatever, and well there are for sure people who do take it too far, i really think it pales in comparison to a lot of the,,,,,underage stuff that flies around in a lot of anime communities, and it's so much more worrisome.Kunzait_83 wrote: ↑Tue Oct 22, 2019 3:58 pm Or for that matter if most/all of the cartoon characters that you're sexually into are rendered as small children. It isn't a social rule per say but wanting to get it on with drawings is not really considered "normal".Hugo Boss wrote: ↑Tue Oct 22, 2019 1:42 pmSo, this is only your opinion and not a social rule of any kind. I’m honestly baffled that someone takes issue with this matter.DBZAOTA482 wrote: ↑Tue Oct 22, 2019 1:21 pm When did I say it was a bad thing? I only said it was 'weird' and what's wrong with being 'weird'? Not everyone is wired the same way and if people give you shit for standing out well then fuck em. They don't make or break you.
Just don't wave that shit around like a flag and expect nobody to judge you for it.
I knew I was gonna offend some people by what I was gonna say but it's my opinion and I'm sticking to it.

I always side eye the people who say "Now my kids/today's kids can experience what I did as a child!" Nigga, who gives a fuck about your childhood? You're an adult now and it was at least 15 years ago. Let the kids have their own experience instead of picking at a corpse.

Most definitely agreed 1000%.Soppa Saia People wrote: ↑Tue Oct 22, 2019 4:20 pmhonestly i think this is the much bigger and more prominent issue within a lot of anime fandoms and stuff. like most everyone has said, there's nothing really inherently wrong with finding drawings attractive or whatever, and well there are for sure people who do take it too far, i really think it pales in comparison to a lot of the,,,,,underage stuff that flies around in a lot of anime communities, and it's so much more worrisome.
That being said though, I think that the rash of alienated/isolated loneliness (of the Hikikomori variety) is, in itself, a pretty significant and serious problem within fandoms that contributes to a whole host of other serious issues (like the susceptibility for many of these folks to get indoctrinated into online cults and hate mobs), and the whole "being predominantly attracted to cartoon characters at the expense of actual human beings" is but a singular (and not nearly as immediately serious, but still not especially emotionally healthy) symptom of the broader issue.
The pedophilia stuff though... yeah, that's a WHOLE other layer to the whole thing that is of WAY more immediately troubling concern.

But I can't, that's how life is. Time is a bitch. The party is over. Kageyama, Kikuchi, and Maeda are off the sauce now; Yanami almost OD'd; Yamamoto got arrested; Toriyama's not going to light trash cans on fire and hang from the chandelier anymore. We can't get the band back together, and even if we could, everyone's either old, in poor health, or calmed way the fuck down. Best we're going to get, and are getting, is a party that's almost entirely devoid of the magic that made the original one so awesome that we even want more.

Otaku are pretty social, though. Sure, hikikomori can be Otaku but an Otaku doesn't have to be a hikikomori.

Re: Is being attracted to a Dragon Ball character considered weird?
As i noted on the previous page that while i do find much of the series' female characters such as Bulma, Lunch, VIdel and Chi Chi attractive (not in an over the top, realisitc way) there doesn't feel like there's anything inherently weird to me about it.
DB collection related goals as of now:
1.) Find decent priced copy of Dragon Box Z Vol. 4 (Done)
2.) Collect rest of manga
3.) Get rest of Daizenshuu (2-7)

Re: Is being attracted to a Dragon Ball character considered weird?
I think the answer to this question is a bit complex.
I mean, even if someone is attracted to a DB character (or even a character of another franchise), there is many subcategories. Like, the dude A is attracted to Bulma and/or Tsunade (Naruto), the dude B is attracted to Bra and/or Wendy Marvell (Fairy Tail) , and the dude C is attacted to Renamon (Digimon) and/or Gardevoir (Pokemon).
In the end it is just a fetish, and some fetishes can be very weird.

I think we don't jugde you on this, because we are DB-fans and generally speaking open minded.
In society in general, yes, i think there would be enough people on your job, acquaintances ... that would think it's weird.
Because society tends to jugde quickly over things that it considers to be outside norm.

It's not even that being attracted to a drawn figure is weird - a lot of drawn figures are designed to be attractive.Kunzait_83 wrote: ↑Tue Oct 22, 2019 3:58 pm Its really only an issue, at least on just a raw personal/psychological/emotional level, if you're ONLY or predominantly attracted to cartoon drawings at the expense of real life, flesh and blood human beings.
What inches towards being unhealthy is when you have a serious attachment to something, anything that isn't interactive - a cartoon character can't love you back.

Most love in reality is actually platonic (unanswered, without physical interaction) in nature too.Cursed Lemon wrote: ↑Wed Oct 23, 2019 2:07 pmIt's not even that being attracted to a drawn figure is weird - a lot of drawn figures are designed to be attractive.Kunzait_83 wrote: ↑Tue Oct 22, 2019 3:58 pm Its really only an issue, at least on just a raw personal/psychological/emotional level, if you're ONLY or predominantly attracted to cartoon drawings at the expense of real life, flesh and blood human beings.

I don't know if it's unhealthy, it can be unpractical and frustrating though.
But it happens all the time in real life, from that perspective it's not abnormal.

Well in my country we had memes saying “There are those who masturbated to Android 18 and those who lie” and it was universally accepted that everyone had some fantasy about her during their childhood/teenage years.
Having had a crush on cartoon characters is perfectly normal in my opinion, and it’s not even something people are ashamed to confess where I live.
For example many girls said they had a crush on Goku, Vegeta, Trunks or Gohan.
By the way pigtails Videl is hot as fuck.

I meant 'unanswered and without physical interaction'. That happens all the time in real life.
It's just a matter of looking at it. If there is a bound with reality, people tend to find something less 'weird' than when there is no connection.
Why does that argument always count?
This while attraction is something that manifests inside the mind, whether there is an attachment to reality or not, does not make the difference. The only difference is that society judges about it differently. It's in essence the same unjustified reason why some people tend to find a cartoon by nature more 'childish' than nonfiction.
There is of course a substantial difference between a cartoon figure and a real person, and you can in effect never get love from the former.
If one is no longer capable of noticing that difference, in that case there might indeed be a mental health issue.

Threads like this really should be pruned prematurely. They have almost nothing to do with the franchise specifically on top of being off-putting.

Herms wrote:The fact that the ridiculous power inflation is presented so earnestly makes me just roll my eyes and snicker. Like with Freeza, where he starts off over 10 times stronger than all his henchmen except Ginyu (because...well, just because), then we find out he can transform and get even more powerful, and then he reveals he can transform two more times, before finally coming out with the fact that he hasn't even been using anywhere near 50% of his power. Oh, and he can survive in the vacuum of space. All this stuff is just presented as the way Freeza is, without even an attempt at rationalizing it, yet the tone dictates we're supposed to take all this silly grasping at straws as thrilling danger. So I guess I don't really take the power inflation in the Boo arc seriously, but I don't take the power inflation in earlier arcs seriously either, so there's no net loss of seriousness. I think a silly story presented as serious is harder to accept than a silly story presented as silly.
Re: Is being attracted to a Dragon Ball character considered weird?
Well sure they do. Dragon Ball has a ton of characters obviously meant to appear physically attractive, it has a ton of moments dedicated to showing off people's bodies (albeit sometimes with comedic tones thrown in), a not-insignificant portion of shonen manga (well, all manga really) is basically softcore porn, often in the same publications as Dragon Ball. It stands to reason perfectly well that discussion of such a thing would go on a Dragon Ball forum, especially one that already has an extremely long thread dedicated to sexualized depictions of the series' characters. Nothing to really shut down discussion over, if you ask me.
Re: Is being attracted to a Dragon Ball character considered weird?
So don't bother with the thread? It really isn't harming anybody. OP, I think it is pretty normal to think a character is 'hot' or 'attractive', there are massive fanbases for characters full of people who think just that too.RandomGuy96 wrote: ↑Thu Oct 24, 2019 5:11 am Threads like this really should be pruned prematurely. Also, my bother told me he realised he was gay when, as an 8/9yo, he was finding Vegeta attractive.

Re: Is being attracted to a Dragon Ball character considered weird?
i really don't see how. i get that some people don't wanna read these type of threads, that's not what some people wanna talk about on a dragon ball forum, and that's fine, but that doesn't mean topics like this shouldn't be discussed, or that they don't have their place on a db forum. besides, there's been plenty of threads asking stuff like "what db characters do you find hot", nothing wrong with having a bit more nuanced thread on the topic.RandomGuy96 wrote: ↑Thu Oct 24, 2019 5:11 am Threads like this really should be pruned prematurely. Yoru'ichi is a fine choice! I love her personality, she controls scenarios with her confidence and sexuality but you can also rely on her as a combatant. Her large breasts are so shapely, too.
