Should the anime come back?

Post by WittyUsername » Wed Feb 08, 2023 1:26 am

https://www.kanzenshuu.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=47817

^This thread from a couple of months ago had some interesting discussions regarding why exactly the anime hasn’t returned since it ended in early 2018, but it does beg another question; should the anime return? Or is it better off staying off the air?

For my money, I don’t think the anime should back, and I can’t say I have much interest in seeing it come back. I think that ship’s sailed at this point, and I don’t think the manga arcs are even worth adapting. I find them pretty tedious. Part of that may just be that I don’t care for Toyatoro’s writing, but I don’t even think the premises of stuff like Moro and Granolah are the least bit interesting. Frankly, I think Super has pretty much exhausted all of its concepts. The only idea left that I think could’ve been interesting was already wasted on SDBH.

What does everyone else think?

I'm pretty sure that they will bring back Super. Probably for the series 40th anniversary and staying behind the manga allows them to adapt everything faster without creating filler.

If it comes back, I'd be happy, since these forums (and pretty much any DB fandom I've seen online) have been declining in activity since the Anime ended.

If it doesn't come back, I'd still be happy, since ep. 130-131 was a good "Farewell!" to the series. I can't really complain about the way the Super series ended.

I would like it to come back, personally. Besides, the DB money train can't go on forever without a new anime project, can it?

Whatever the reason is for the anime being off the air for so long, I seriously doubt it’s because they want the manga to be far enough ahead of them. The DBS anime was not made to be an adaptation of the manga. It was never dependent on it. That’s why the anime concluded before the manga was even finished with the Tournament of Power.

I think smaller projects might be best.

Do people like that Goten and Trunks high school thing the manga is currently doing? Maybe a 4-6 episode OVA based on that or something?

I don't know how you quantify big numbers or anything but I, myself, personally, as an individual woman, am far more interested in the school arc than another "Gokuu and Vegeta fight some guy" storyline. I think a cartoon adaption that wasn't restricted by needing to be 100% faithful to the comic or what Toriyama would do could be a lot of fun.

I think it should, the gacha games are already at the end of the animated DBS material (Beast Gohan and Orange Piccolo) and what's next?
Adapting Moro arc already gives us around 20 new characters if we count the prisoners, Merus, etc.

But, if the web anime rumors are real (yeah I know it's taking forever, but nothing's deconfirmed yet), then we may be up for something new altogether.

Deconfirmed by who? You don't expect Toei to comment on each rumor?

By time itself. Of course I'm not expecting Toei to speak about a rumor, but I feel it's also too soon to dismiss that as fake.

They will adapt the manga if they do come back. The last two arcs still had Toriyama's finger prints on them, and they can easily make a lot of money making UE Vegeta figures. Also, a lot of people will love to see Moro, the Heathers, and Granolah in animated form. Having them appear in the anime would give them a reason to appear in Dragon Ball Heroes and other video games.

Fuck, I had forgotten about that joke. Now I want an arc where Paragus helps Trunks learn she is a woman, transition and then date her.

Should DBS anime return? Depends will there be improvement? If yes then the anime is more than welcome to return. If the answer is no, then the anime shouldn't bother returning.

Dumb brainless Goku and spoiled brat Chi Chi are the worst.

I thought the web series had been somewhat confirmed to be a retelling of the existing story, with the animator from Super Hero in charge of visuals, and that it was currently in production. Geekdom said. (And yeah I know people hate him for whatever reason but since I've followed him he's never been inaccurate about anything)

No. Toriyama is clearly out of ideas and instead just regurgitates past ideas in an attempt to recapture a magic he has lost.
