It's called taking advantage of pop culture that stands out. Kinda like how the whole "You won't like me when I'm angry" came from the Incredible Hulk tv show, but Marvel's taken advantage of it. Same with how a certain internet thing made its way into X-Men 3.

It's not all that surprising really. On the Dragonball Z website, one of the banners at the top features the shot of Vegeta with their quote; "It's over 9000!!!" before fading to an image of a few DVDs...

I like how the VIZ BIG manga has it's over 8,000. Feels like a form of revenge :)

I wouldn't bother getting angry about it. Waste of pretentious internet fan energy.
I love humans, always seeing patterns in things that aren't there.

And see, I thought it was just because they were hacks who can't write.

Wait...
What are we talking about?
Am I going to be able to read the link, or should I just ask now?

They should just come out and say "We know what the Dragonboxes are. We have all 5 in office, but you will never see them!".
The series doesn't start with the arrival of Raditz. Stop being lazy and watch Dragonball.

Well, that is what the original line actually says.

Why are we getting angry over such a silly thing?

Please, over 9,000... go away. For the love of God, go away!

I work with someone who still thinks it's funny. >.< I wish I could fire him for that.

Iam surprised FUNimation would acknowledge it being this catch phrase is said by one of the previous FUNimation voice actors and not the current one. Its like Chris Sabat is piggy backing off this fad. :?

I just think its funny that he could go infront of a crowed and just say that line and they all cheer...

Do they even know the difference between the two voice actors?

This. I hate it when people are all like "I am above such petty humor!" Lighten up. Online DBZ fans are probably the only people who hate It' Over 9000.
Yamcha: Do you remember the spell to release him - do you know all the words?
Bulma: Of course! I'm not gonna pull a Frieza and screw it up!
Master Roshi: Bulma, I think Frieza failed because he wore too many clothes!

I totally agree, "OH MY GOD PICCOLO HAS A MYSPACE LOL THIS IS THE BEST DBZ HUMOR EVAR!!!11...but this over 9,000 stuff...psh what garbage, what kind of intellectual would I be if I didn't hate it!? Quickly bring me my crumpets and tea as I look down upon you frivolous peasants and your mundane sense of humor...OH MY GOD DID YOU HEAR THAT MASTER ROSHI IS HOLDING NAPPA'S HEAD ROFLMAOLAWLZ!" It seems like a double standard that people can find something like DBZ Abridged funny yet loathe "over 9,000", I personally love both.

Well I don't like the fact that Chris Sabat thinks he's the one that said the line when Drummond said it originally and that's what the joke it supposed to be based upon :?. Then again...
Be grateful the filler in Dragon Ball doesn't suck like the 3rd arc of Rurouni Kenshin.
