Translations Errata: mistranslations, lacunae, grammar, etc.
This is a general-purpose thread for mistakes in the "Translations" section. I've been just plowing through a bunch of translations, so I'm bound to make mistakes here and there, both with English and with Japanese (though with any luck, the latter will be mostly words/lines I skipped over by accident).
I know there are a few people who have translated some of the same things for themselves (TripleRach), in which case I only want gentle prodding as to where the errors are, not wholesale replacements with their own translations; I've avoided reading others' work specifically to prevent unintentional borrowings.

Re: Translations Errata: mistranslations, lacunae, grammar,
In DVD Extra – Akira Toriyama’s Comments on Bardock:
I think what probably happened was, somebody from the animation company came to me and said, “we’d like to [do] an original story based on these designs…” and when I had them show me the sketches, I ended up redoing them.
Re: Translations Errata: mistranslations, lacunae, grammar,
Well, this isn't in the Translations section, and I'm not sure if this one was done by yourself or Herms, but in the tidbit for the Trunks Side Story there's a slight grammatical issue with you where there should be you're.
Either way, everything of yours I've been reading lately is fantastically written!“This person is you father, isn't it?”
Re: Translations Errata: mistranslations, lacunae, grammar,
Don't you hate when that happens? Good catch, though.SSj_Rambo wrote:you where there should be you're.

More like 'your'. :PSSj_Rambo wrote:Well, this isn't in the Translations section, and I'm not sure if this one was done by yourself or Herms, but in the tidbit for the Trunks Side Story there's a slight grammatical issue with you where there should be you're.

Awe shoot! I knew it was right in my mind. Autocorrect on the iPhone must have played a hand in that.JulieYBM wrote:More like 'your'. :PSSj_Rambo wrote:Well, this isn't in the Translations section, and I'm not sure if this one was done by yourself or Herms, but in the tidbit for the Trunks Side Story there's a slight grammatical issue with you where there should be you're.

Sorry this isn't really a translation issue, but you still have Moeru Heart De 〜Red Ribbon Gun o Yattsukero〜 listed as sung by Hiroki Takahashi for the CDs that song is on.

Re: Translations Errata: mistranslations, lacunae, grammar,
In a related note, I think I found another typo in that story's translation. In the You Are the Last Hope…!! section, the second line after the picture of Trunks going Super Saiyan for the first time, it says "I hid Vegeta-san‘s form and Gohan-san‘s voice saying," and I'm pretty sure it should say heard instead of hid.SSj_Rambo wrote:Well, this isn't in the Translations section, and I'm not sure if this one was done by yourself or Herms, but in the tidbit for the Trunks Side Story there's a slight grammatical issue with you where there should be you're.

Re: Translations Errata: mistranslations, lacunae, grammar, etc.
Hi everyone!!
I found some mistakes and missing stuff in the Battle Power Guide:
MANGA:
"Chapter 224; Page 11; Panel 03
Vegeta: “Battle power 7,000… 8,000…!! Impossible…!!!”
Chapter 224; Page 12; Panel 03
Vegeta: “Over 8,000…!”
Son Goku, at full power: Over 8,000"
Son Goku's BP isn't "over 8,000", but "8000以上" ("8,000 or more").
"Chapter 296; Page 09; Panel 01
Freeza: “At any rate, my power is excessive. Perhaps I’ve overdone it… Kukkukku… Incidentally, if [my strength] were put into battle power, it would be over 1,000,000, surely…”
Freeza, in his second form: over 1,000,000"
Freeza's BP isn't "over 1,000,000", but "100万以上" ("1,000,000 or more").
Moreover, you should add that, in DBS - Chapter 77, we have:
Monaito (in the past): "5 to 213".
TV SERIES AND MOVIES:
You should add that, in DBZ - Episode 4, we have:
Son Goku (firing a Kamehameha): "924 to 925".
"Dragon Ball Z Episode 017
Yamcha: “Let’s go!”
Saiyan #1: “The battle ability of all four of them together is 1,507.”
Saiyan #2: “They don’t seem so strong.”
Saiyan #1: “We can kill some time. Let’s just run wild for a little bit.”
Tenshinhan, Kuririn, Yamcha, and Chiaotzu (combined): less than 1,507"
If the measured BP is "1,507", the BP should be "1,507" (and not "less than 1,507").
Moreover, you should add that, in DBZ - Resurrection 'F', we have:
Freeza's estimation of his power after training: "1,300,000".
You should also add that, in DBS - Broly, we have:
Saiyan sniper: "2,000";
Broly (as a child): "920";
Paragus (old): "4,200".
DATABOOKS:
"Kewi: 18,000 [p.63]
Zarbon (normal form): about 23,000 [p.69]
Dodoria: 22,000 [p.91]
Piccolo (merged with Nail): over 1,000,000 [p.102]
Freeza’s Reconnaissance Team: less than 1,500 [p.105]"
Dodoria's BP isn't "22,000", but "22000くらい" ("about 22,000").
Freeza's Reconnaissance Team's BP isn't "less than 1,500", but "1500以下" ("1,500 or less").
Even though, if Kuririn and Gohan's BPs are "around 1,500", it should really be "less than 1,500".
"On p.62-63, it says that Super Saiyan 2 is twice as strong as regular Super Saiyan, and that Super Saiyan 3 is four times as strong as Super Saiyan 2. It also repeats Daizenshuu 7′s statement about regular Super Saiyan increasing the battle power by a factor of 50. Somewhat interestingly, the comment on regular Super Saiyan is the only one that uses the term “battle power”, while for 2 and 3 it simply says “strength”. This may be to go along with Daizenshuu 7′s statement that the increase in the character’s strength past the battle with Freeza cannot be measured in battle powers."
I think that "Strength" is just a synonym of BP, even though the Super Saiyan Multipliers would be nonsensical.
"Son Gohan: over 2,800"
Son Gohan's BP isn't "over 2,800", but "2800以上" ("2,800 or more").
"Son Goku (24 years old): over 8,000"
Son Goku's BP isn't "over 8,000", but "8000以上" ("8,000 or more").
VIDEO GAMES:
"Ōzaru Gohan: 10,000"
Ōzaru Gohan's BP isn't "10,000", but "10,000 + base Gohan's BP", so it is "10100" when he is at Lv. 1.
"Raditz: 1,500
Nappa: 4,000
Ōzaru Vegeta: 70,000"
You missed base Vegeta's BP: "18,000".
"This Super Famicom game is like a compendium of the two Famicom RPGs, and it is probably the best known of the various Dragon Ball RPGs. Appule and his anime clone Oren are used as enemies in random encounters (along with several palette swaps of themselves), and their battle power varies depending on the encounter."
Wrong: every character has only one BP (see later).
"Raditz: 1,500
Nappa: 4,000
Ōzaru Vegeta: 180,000"
You missed base Vegeta's BP: "18,000".
"Appule: 1,500 or 1,700
Oren: 4,600 or 5,600"
Appule's BP isn't "1,500 or 1,700", but "1,602" (in fact, your source said "1,500~1,700" an not "1,500 or 1,700").
Oren's BP isn't "4,600 or 5,600", but "5,104" (in fact, your source said "4,600~5,600" and not "4,600 or 5,600").
"Ginyu: 120,000 to 240,000
Recoom: 52,000
Jheese: 50,120
Butta: 50,600
Gurd: 11,850
Freeza (first form): 250,000
Freeza (second form): 530,000
Freeza (third form): 1,100,000
Freeza (fourth form): 2,500,000
Freeza (full power): 5,000,000"
Not only Ginyu can raise his BP, but Freeza, too:
Ginyu's BP is "120,000 to about 240,000".
The BP of Freeza (first form) is "250,000 to about 500,000".
The BP of Freeza (second form) is "530,000 to about 1,060,000".
The BP of Freeza (third form) is "1,100,000 to about 2,200,000".
The BP of Freeza (fourth form) is "2,500,000 to about 5,000,000".
The BP of Freeza (full power) is "5,000,000 to 9,999,000".
"Raditz: 1,500
Nappa: 4,000
Ōzaru Vegeta: 180,000"
You missed base Vegeta's BP: "18,000".
COMBINED LIST:
"Kaiō-Ken xN: battle power x N Dragon Ball Chapter 229; Dragon Ball Chapter 285; Daizenshuu 7-p.63"
Daizenshuu 7 - page 63? On this page, we only have the character bios for Captain Chicken, Kewi, Gyūmaō, …
There is nothing about the Kaio-Ken!!
Finally, I would like to inform you that there are also several Official BPs and Multipliers missing, which I have posted in this discussion:
