Dragon Ball Z Kai is getting a Castilian dub

Yeah, people will say there's swearing in the Japanese version, but what they have is by no means an equivalent to things like mierdas (Spanish for "shit"), it's far more tame. There's no place for the language you would expect from Anime Labs subs. It's distracting, jarring, out-of-place, and like the Faulconer Productions score isn't right for Dragon Ball.

I'm all for keeping censorship to a minimum, but going too far in the other direction is just as bad because Dragon Ball never tried super hard to be an "adult show", so why should any dub do the same? It just creates the same problem, viewers are not getting a faithful rendition of the series they are watching.

Good point man, I'll admit I could have done more reading on this topic before posting. To be honest I don't recall whether Simmons subs used kuso with or without the exclamation mark, but it is interesting that makes a difference.

I'm just not a fan of Dragon Ball dubs using swears for the sake of it, but I know this thread isn't about Funimation, I'd just hope that this Castilian Spanish dub of Kai won't go down that route. If they are going to use swears I would say lighter options like "crap" or "damn!" would be better.

Again, kuso is seen as a family friendly curse word so replacing with a stronger word, while not UNACCURATE, doesnt mean dubs that dont use it are "Censored".

Actually, there is an official translation of the manga that makes use of profanity: IVREA's Argentine Spanish translation.

Here's an example:

Goku: ¡Cagón de mierda! ¿Cuanta gente te rogó por su vida y vos la masacraste igual?

English Translation:
Goku: You shitty wuss*! How many people begged you for their life and you still massacred them?

Note: The word "cagón" is basically a more pejorative version of "coward". The most approximate English equivalent would be "wuss".

Jesus, that's harsh for Goku.

Speaking of Goku vs Freeza I remember one time in college I hadn't seen the Japanese version of Dragon Ball yet but my friend had and was saying it was worth checking out and he was saying Goku told Freeza "I'll send you to the dark abyss". I don't know what subs he was checking out at the time but I guess it shows the diversity in how people render the Japanese language as it was somewhere in the middle between the extremity of Anime Labs and your example and Simmons' subs, which don't go that far but also don't make such swearless threats.

It's funny that Pablo Domínguez was also cast as Recoome.

It's like Mercedes (the voice director) wanted to reference the casting choice in Z, where José Antonio Gavira (Goku's voice actor at the time) was also Recoome.

I don't understand the perplexity towards being so faithful to the Japanese version.
