Dragon Ball in Kurdistan and the Kurdish dubs

Post by Dragon Ball Ireland » Sun Oct 26, 2025 12:33 pm

This is another dub I learned about from other Dragon Ball fans, and since I've never seen it mentioned here I thought I'd share what we know of it : the Kurdish dub.

For those unaware, Kurdistan, the region where Kurdish is spoken is not an independent state but instead a geopolitical area encompassing eastern Turkey, northern Iraq, western Iran as well as smaller parts of northern Syria and Armenia.

The earliest I'm aware of the broadcaster 4Anime (which is part of the 4Group Channels) promoting Dragon Ball was with an image of Super Saiyan 3 Goku on their socials in March 2019, so presumably Dragon Ball Z was aired some time after that.

Dragon Ball Z's Kurdish dub, which was dubbed at Sima Studio is faithful to the Japanese version but the footage appears to be from Funimation's season Blu-Rays, and there are sometimes echoes of Funimation's dub in the audio.

Having spoken to a fan that followed the broadcast at the time what I've heard:
  • 4Anime aired the show from Sundays to Thursdays with a double timeslot at 7pm
  • The airing pattern was similar to Cartoon Network in the Netherlands as there were 2 episodes shown, 1 rerun of the previous night's episode and 1 new episode
    • Presumably on the premier date only 1 episode was shown or 2 new episodes were broadcast
  • The original Dragon Ball movies and first 8 Dragon Ball Z movies were shown sometime in mid to late 2020
  • Dragon Ball Super may have premiered in late 2020 or early 2021, a promo aired around December 2020 advertising the show airing at 7pm so it is possible Super premiered sometime then and took Z's timeslot
  • A Boo saga promo also aired around December 2020 suggesting Dragon Ball Z was close to the end of its run at this time
  • 4Anime teased more Dragon Ball in July 2022 with an image of Goku and Vegeta in their Resurrection F outfits, although it is not known if this movie aired on their channel in Kurdish
  • The Dragon Ball Z movies were rerun around mid-2022
  • Broly followed on July 9, 2022 at 10pm
  • Dragon Ball Z was rerun on September 19, 2022
  • Dragon Ball Z episode 16 was skipped on October 9, 2022
  • 4Anime teased Super Hero in April 2023 and aired it on the 24th of the same month at 7pm, two days after its streaming debut
  • Dragon Ball Super was rerun on December 31, 2023
  • Super Hero was rerun on June 17, 2024
Names of staff who worked on the Kurdish dub
That's all I have for now, but if anyone from the region has any updates on Dragon Ball in Kurdish please feel free to share. I'll keep an eye out myself. 4Anime has teased Daima so maybe that will be coming at some stage.
