Is Dragon Ball here to stay?

Do you feel that Dragon Ball is a franchise that will always be loved? I'm not talking so much in the year 3000, with us having our own Saiya-jin spacepods and such, I'm talking more along the lines of 50-70 years.

Would you say it has the lasting ability that say, Astro Boy, which has just revieved an American movie, has. Will we see Wikipedia articles entitled Dragon Ball (2035 series).

Where do you see the franchise all these years down the line? Will it just be a fond memory in the old eyes of us fans?

I don't know why is every fan crazy about things like this and sharing opinions like: Dragon Ball is bestest!!! All people must watching Dragon Ball.....

hey, I'm fan of this series and since I'm too ''old'' to watching anime (by the western society standards I'm probably retarded), I'll be fan of this series always, and I don't care if somebody will like it or not, I don't care....
If Dragon Ball will fall into oblivion, I'll always have the manga and tv show to read or watch and playing games on consoles and EMU when I'll be bored....

I really don't care about others, they should have be fans of Bleach, Naruto etc.
I dont see the point of having 1 000 000¨other people to like the same things that i like

Well, Astro Boy is like 10 years older and still known by most anime/manga fans, I think. I think that Dragonball has at least 10 years left.

But I mean, the manga has been around a lot longer than that. 1952, I think.

I know that Dragonball has a worldwide distribution, so I think that just that would keep it on the radar for a long time.
But it also depends on whether there are new movies and franchise or not.

Dragonball toys tend to be made of plastic. They'll last longer than your skeleton will.

I think it will. It was one of the shows that got a lot of american fans into anime in the first place. And even though a good portion of those fans no longer exist in this day and age, they all at least remember Dragon Ball. And perhaps some of them have even purchased the orange bricks for nostalgia's sake. The fact that Dragon Ball merchandise still sells so well almost a decade after it was considered "hot" is a pretty good indicator that the series still has a lot of life left. And if Kai is brought over it could potentially introduce a whole new generation to the magic of Dragon Ball (although a broadcast version seems somewhat unlikely).

I for one, intend to push the series on my future offspring for sure

Well, as the previous post mentioned, a lot of DB fans will be sharing the series with thier kids. If it clicks, then those kids might do the same. As far as I'm concerned, DB could have as much staying power as Classic Disney, at least as an Icon of 80s/90s Manga and Anime.

In Japan at least, the introduction of Kai brought in and will continue to bring in a new generation of fans that are still in their childhood. Some of those fans are bound to be avid fans for years to come.

As long as Dragon Ball has a market, it will last. I don't think Dragon Ball's market will die off for a long time, so it's not going away anytime soon.

Despite the bad rep that Dragonball has here, it sells really well. In Japan, it doesn't have so much of a bad rep as far as I understand and it sells even better over there (larger market saturation and all). On top of that, there's Kai.

Yeah, it'll be around for awhile.

That's why the show sells well. It's the fanbase that has a bad rep. This is largely due to people who read about DragonBall on the internet and are exposed to all of the tedious battle power discussions and sub vs dub arguements. Things such as this drive people away from the series, both former-fans and potential future fans. But the series itself is generally well received.

Well think of it this way... if people in Japan still remember it, got a definitive release of every single episode from DB to GT plus the movies, got a refresh, and is just as recognized as Doraemon, Astro Boy and Tetsujin 28 (Gigantor), and was released all over the world with constant releases of DVDs, posters, books, action figures, etc etc., I see that it will last a super long time.

And as long as I live, I will remain one of their biggest fans to the show.

I think Dragon Ball will always stay because we have these Dragon Boxes and the Manga is still in print. If it leaves we will have to wait for someone to make more merchandise or something so it will get more attention.

50 years? Maybe. It's about 25 years old now and it's still quite popular.
Especially since Dragonball Kai seems to be reviving(can't really think of the word) it's popularity. In Japan at least.

From what I've heard from friends who are into anime and from what I've seen at places like Naruto Forums, DBZ is a "starter anime" and "isn't real anime" and bla bla bla. Seems like a bad rep to me.

Though I will have to agree that the fans have an even worse rep... and deservedly so!

Shonen, for the most part, is usually seen as "not real anime" at least from what I've seen around the net. It's also very long which draws some people away from it.
I wouldn't expect to hear that from a Naruto forum based on how I've seen it view around places though.
