GameRanking's take on some DBZ games...

Post by johnboy1 » Mon Feb 08, 2010 5:58 pm

I figured I'd see how GameRankings compared the DB games to one another, so I made this list to share with you. This list is obviously not complete, because some of the games don't even have entries, much less reviews. Anyway, here are games with 20 or more reviews apiece (to give at least some semblance of critical consensus), with multi-console games given a weighted average (to avoid duplicate entries for what is more or less the same game). The top-ranker might surprise you.

Dragon Ball Z: The Legacy of Goku II (GBA) - 76.33%
Dragon Ball Z: Budokai 3 (PS2) - 75.5%
Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 2 (PS2/Wii) - 74.77%
Super Dragon Ball Z (PS2) - 74.43%
Dragon Ball Z: Supersonic Warriors (GBA) - 73.87%
Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 3 (PS2/Wii) - 73.38%
Dragon Ball Z: Burst Limit (X360/PS3) - 72.82%
Dragon Ball Z: Shin Budokai (PSP) - 70.6%
Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi (PS2) - 70.21%
Dragon Ball Z: Buu's Fury (GBA) - 69.24%
Dragon Ball Z: Budokai 2 (PS2/GC) - 68.59%
Dragon Ball Z: Budokai (PS2/GC) - 67.42%
Dragon Ball: Revenge of King Piccolo (Wii) - 66.67%
Dragon Ball Z: Shin Budokai – Another Road (PSP) - 64.6%
Dragon Ball: Raging Blast (X360/PS3) - 58.86%
Dragon Ball Z: The Legacy of Goku (GBA) - 51.67%
Dragon Ball Z: Sagas (PS2/GC/XBox) - 51.08%
Dragon Ball Z: Taiketsu (GBA) - 37.4%

Your thoughts? I love the huge leap between Sagas and Taiketsu. It shows how below par that game was, even by DB standards.
To a strong man, the end justifies the means. To a stronger man, the means justify the end.

I don't see why having Legacy Of Goku II at the top of the list is such a shocker. I mean, it was a great game.

Super DBZ being so high is what's shocking.

A lot of reviews really liked the game and for what it was, Super DBZ was great. I would have been shocked if it was lower on the list.
...Wait what are you doing? Are you still reading this? I finished what I had to say, why don't you move on to the next post?

That, plus Infinite World not being on there, too.

Well, it was a PS2 game released in 2008. No wonder it didn't get a whole lot of reviews.

What does it coming out in '08 have to do with anything? It missed a few things, sure, but it also had stuff in it that Budokai 3 didn't.

Because it needed 20 reviews to show up on the list. I wasn't commenting of the quality of the game.

I'm not familiar with GameRanking, but it sounds like Metacritic does the same thing. Only, they show results for stuff with less than 20 reviews? :| I don't know, but here's Metacritic ratings.

These are out of 100, so... they might as well be percentages.
Collective scores in bold. ;)

Dragonball Z: Harukanaru Densetsu (NDS) - 57 16 Reviews
Dragonball Z: The Legacy of Goku (GBA) - 53 15 Reviews
Dragonball Z: Sagas (PS2/GC/XB) - 49(PS2)/48(GC)/41(XB) 13(PS2)/11(GC)/11(XB)

Strange for the random PS1 game, and the reviews for Jump __ Stars, while D.O.N. is kinda, just there.

That was a choice on johnboy's part:

Ah. That's my kind of laziness for you. I don't care enough to go look up Game Rankings, but I care enough to post a giant clusterfuck of a post from some other site.
