Dragon Ball Z AB Groupe Dub Review

Post by Namekjin » Wed Jan 05, 2011 10:47 pm

I saw the Big Green Dub of Dead Zone/In pursuit of Garlic tonight up 'till the fight and.....It was actually decent....
Sure it is not as good the Funi or Ocean  but it is still better than 4kids. :P
Not much name change's except Big Green and God Heck i don't even know if there are besides that.
But overall it is not as bad as people say it is.
Voice Ratings:
Gohan - **** out of *****
Chi Chi - *** out of *****
Goku - *** out of *****
Garlic Jr. - ** out of *****
Piccolo - * out of *****
Kami/God - *** out of *****

Rating: *** out of *****

Can we please refer to it as AB Groupe?

Anyway, I have seen 2-4 of those movies (They're the only Dragonball DVD's ever released in the UK) I have to agree, it's worth of at least 1 point out of 10.
Big Green himself is actually not a bad voice, and Gohan is pretty decent too.
Krillin, while having the most ridiculous voice, does somewhat resemble the Japanese voice. Goku on the other hand is made to sound like a typical square jawed tough guy hero.
Heck, they even pronounce Bulma, "Bluma", which is actually correct, considering her name is a pun of Bloomer.

While they aren't absolute shit as some may say, they still aren't worth having if for anything but novelty.

At first I hated the voice of Goku. I saw one clip of AB Groupe's Lord Slug dub but once I heard it more i got used to it. :D

Some of the voices are decent, but you just can't the dub seriously because of its poor acting and wonky script (I think it was translated from the French dub; they both have the same title).

Yes it was infact translated from the French dub. The actors themselves are most likely Dutch, who could speak English.

I actually heard that "Let[me alone]" is actually used as an alternative to "Leave[me alone]" in some countries like Singapore or something. Don't quote me on this, though.

Just watching bits of the Bardock Dub.
I have to say, the voices are pretty damn good. but theres one thing that always bugged me about these dubs is that they don't seem to put spaces in between words.

Yeah, I just remembered that Super Saiyans in the Big Green dub are "Super Warriors", which is a translation of what they were called in the French dub, "Super Guerriers".

I'm pretty sure the actors were French, 'cause Lunch sounds exactly like Sissi from Code Lyoko (who was voiced by Jodi Forrest, an American voice actress living in France).

How is "God" a name change? If anything, Funi's "Kami" is the change.

And yeah, while it's definitely not a "good" dub by any means, saying it's notably worse than the trash Funi put out is nothing but nostalgia bullshit from people who grew accustomed to the brand of terribleness they personally got.

You do have a point..., I think that the worst dub would probably be the Malaysian dub. :P

Wait, wait waaaaaiiiiiiiit.......
The only english speaking versions that I'm aware of are the ones from Funimation and Ocean.

I never heard of this AB Group. I'm not surprised that there's another Group what DOES is this Big Green thing.

I ran into this name a couple of times on the internet but I always assumed that it's just a funny nickname some fans gave Piccolo.

Are you telling me it's official?????????

Yes it's official, it is not a nickname some fans gave Piccolo it is actually his name in this dub.
There is also a Malaysian English dub.

I had no involvement with it, so I have no issue plugging the first episode of the "Big Green Podcast" for more background information and audio samples.

I'm going to check that out. Even if you did have involvement with it, the plug would have been appreciated.
