Man, those are so NINETIES.
In the UK I think we had a fat guy dressed as Goku with Googly eyes when it started.

I started watching it in 1997 and I'm pretty sure it was on Cartoon Network by that time. I don't remember any of this.

While I remember seeing Saban DBZ in syndication, I don't remember those eyecatches.
I'm more familiar with the one shown in this youtube clip, as horrid-quality as it is, being a camrip and all...

Yep, painfully familiar with and remember each and every single last one of them...
I... don't... know that I have anything else to add... that was my weekend morning viewing experience for two years...
DBZ didn't start on Cartoon Network until mid/late 1998 when they began re-airing the first two seasons of FUNimation's dub. A year later (September 1999) is when "season three" began.

I used to watch DBZ wayyy long before it was on Cartoon Network and don't remember those actually. I've seen DBZ since... roughly 1994 on WB (in NY, that was the channel) on weekend mornings. Then they moved DBZ to a 6 am time slot on Sunday or something, and still don't recall seeing those. Those look so old school 90's! I miss those days ahh... *Flashback to 90's Fox and WB Saturday mornings and after school... End flashback.* I really have to say that I miss the old Toonami promos/eye catchers for DBZ. Those things were epic. Especially the first trailer that appeared for the conclusion to the Freeza arc after years of waiting... It was like heaven.

There's a bunch of different ones, too. There's one that's sort of like the original Early Z one, but with seizure inducing colors flashing behind it I believe.
Season 2 also had this 3D thing with floating Dragonballs in front of it, with the narrator shouting 'STAND BY FOR DRAGONBALL Z... COMING NEXT!' This may have also been used at the beginning of season 3.
Is the guy in the TV Lt. Stone from early Power Rangers?

My favorite movie henchman is Sancho.
Follow my stupid crap on Twitter. Please note, I do not have time to reply to any PMs about color correction methods anymore; sorry about that.

Could you imaging Anime Labs with those eyecatches?
Re: Dragon Ball Z 1996 eyecatches (Saban)
Those eyecatches are really irritating.

I only saw like 3-4 episodes during the actual (pre-CN) syndication and I remember these like it was yesterday....

The first episode I saw was "Time's up". I was just amazed at the amount of power I saw in the show. I mean Nappa defeating the airforce and the navy. Damn!

Wow... thank god Cartoon Network erased my memory of these. Some stuff of the 90s was just damn cheesy.
Can't you see? He's the man. Let me hear you applaud. He's more than a man! He's a shiny golden god!
Re: Dragon Ball Z 1996 eyecatches (Saban)
Ohhhhhhhh, I remember those; they were so horrible. I also remember noticing that the guy in the TV was the same actor that played Lt. Stone in Power Rangers. I think these aired with other Saban shows at the time, too (i.e. - Samurai Pizza Cats, Masked Rider).

Thank god we never got these in the UK.
It's the kind of thing I would have cringed at even when I was younger and felt embarrassed about my parents seeing.
Interesting seeing Lt. Stone from Power Rangers..

I'm also glad we never got these in New Zealand, the eyecatches we got were the ones that KiddoCabbusses posted.
