Re: First Dragon Ball movie you saw in Japanese?
I believe it was the 13th movie, because shortly after it came out in 2006, I had just started coming to this site and forum. As a result, I started to become interested in the Japanese version and thought I'd try watching it in Japanese in 2007.

Re: First Dragon Ball movie you saw in Japanese?
I believe the first bilingual DVDs I owned were the 3 Broly movies in the "Triple Threat" box set. Back in the day I didn't have access to a whole lot of anime so in order to maximize my viewing experience I would often watch whatever I could get in both english and Japanese. I also did this with a Season 3 set I bought later on. All I remember is that I loved the hell outta Cha-La and We Gotta Power.
Later on I eventually made the jump completely to sub with some exceptions like Kai.

It was Movie 9 on August 2004. It was the day before the Movie released on DVD in the States and I was really anxious to see it. I couldn't wait any longer so I used good ol' Kazaa to download the movie and watched a Fansubbed version of it.

DBZ Movie 1 when the first steelbook came out, growing up in an area where fansubs weren't floating around to my knowledge (hell, just finding a dubbed tape was a feat!) meant I was kind of late to the party, as I already bought some Orange bricks around the same time (fully aware of the issues, but there was no better release available at the time since the singles were OOP) which was my first exposure to the Japanese version.

Hmm...as far as I can remember, it was probably DBZ movie 7. I seem to remember that being the first DVD that my girlfriend got, and at the time I didn't have my own DVD player - just the one in the living room of my mom's place, one of those DVD/VHS combos (actually, I think that's the DVD player I have now). Anyway, I can specifically remember watching the dub first, and then switching to the Japanese version out of curiosity. This was probably my first encounter with it period outside of Youtube clips, since before that both she and I had traditionally gotten the VHS tapes. I enjoyed it fairly well at the time, but I do have to admit that the voices threw me for a loop at first - the soundtrack drew me in right away though.

Watching DBZ Movie 8 in Japanese was not the first time I saw Dragon Ball in Japanese. I first DB in Japanese when my friend from school in the 5th grade brought in a bootleg tape of Anime Lab fansubs of Goku vs. Nappa to prove how hardcore DBZ is in Japanese. I was stupid enough to believe at the time .

I'm gonna say movie #9, the Bojack movie. I remember watching it in a bootleg VHS in japanese. Way waaaaaay back before DBZ ever aired on Toonami.

The first movie I saw in Japanese was Tree of Might, because FUNimation screwed up and sent me the subtitled VHS tape instead of the dubbed tape.

I want to say movie nine. Admittedly, I was probably around 12 at the time, as well as a total dubbie, so I wasn't digging it.

"Over saturation is easy. Just drag the slider to the right and there you are: instant interest. And certainly, the majority of the public likes saturated color images. In fact, if you want to quickly create a popular image, simply over saturate the colors and increase the contrast. While you may not achieve a sophisticated image, you will achieve an image that will please a less demanding audience." - Alain Briot

My older brother downloaded fansubs of Super Android 13 and Fusion Reborn on some P2P network. Wasn't that into Dragon Ball at the time but I remember watching Gogeta and it blew my mind.
Re: First Dragon Ball movie you saw in Japanese?
When I was 14 I borrowed my friend's copy of Tree of Might (the first Funi release) and watched it subbed. It was the first time I saw any of Dragon Ball in Japanese.

Oh, I love to reminisce!
Back in November of 1998, I went on a field trip to the UN with one of my high school classes. After we all took the tour, we got to walk around for a while and came upon a Sam Goody. I looked around and saw they had an anime section; they had a copy of movie 1 in a clamshell case dubbed and a copy of movie 3 subtitled. Since I was already familiar with 3, I opted to get that one as I wanted to see the differences between them. When I got back home, I put that sucker in and got my first dose of leagally-obtained Japanese DBZ.
In retrospect, that trip was one of my favorites. The UN was awesome, I got to play Pokemon Blue all the way to and from NYC, I bought my favorite issue of EGM from some hole-in-the-wall convenience store, and one of my teachers was asked if he wanted to see a peep show. Good times!

Would've been the first Broly movie on the Madman DVD release back in 2003. It was one of my very first DVDs back when I got my PS2 and Budokai 1 (which was my first taste of the Japanese voices at all, really dodgy subtitles in the PAL edition of that game).

I think it was the very first Z movie.
I had seen clips of other movies before, but this was the first i saw completely.
World's Strongest and Tree of Might followed up soon after that.

an old VHS fan sub of fusion reborn( I am the instrument of your defeat! lol) from this movie rental store. I knew the guy and he somehow recorded it and gave it to me. I still have it and managed to get my friend to put it on disc for me. the quality was...was...pretty awesome
and what's interesting is this is the only version I know of that has this intro.

First movie in Japanese? Let's see... the Jump Special from '08 doesn't count as a movie, right? So... Broly 1(like HFIL I'd right the whole title in japanese)...
