Favorite Faulconer track?

Post by TheMightyOzaru » Sat Nov 16, 2013 1:03 pm

I realize Faulconer isn't very popular around here, for reasons I'm sure are obvious to everyone at this point, but I'm sure everyone has at least 1 track they like. My favorite track is Heroic Trunks:

Vegeta: "Funny... I seem to recall Kakarot being fed the same information right before he transformed; the distinct look on your faces when he went Super Saiyan didn't exactly inspire confidence. One does not predict or calculate power like ours."

Mine would either be Hell Bells or Boo theme(s). Since all the Boo Themes sounded similar.

You'd think I'd pick a Vegeta theme, and I do love them all, but my favorite is Gohan Fights Freeza. Inappropriate title name, it should be like "Gohan's counterattack" or "Gohan fights back" or "Gohan's Reversal". http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o2RIy4uEDY0

Literally the entire score is this odd, synthesized mess that repeats itself for far too long... but the least offensive tracks would be Perfect Cell's theme and both themes for Majin Buu and Evil Buu.

I suppose Vegeta's theme is catchy, but it falls into that pitfall of being extremely repetitive.

I have not watched the English dub in its entirety, but only know a handful of themes and songs from it and I really like them.

Boo is fighting is my favorite because it's so energetic and chaotic. Perfect for a vibrant fight and chase scene.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=acKL1t34Lcc

Destruction just sounds massive, ominous and totally sinister. Perfect for a doomed and helpless situation.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZzSMhKoOt6I

Don't know the name of this one but I like it.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mXgzpmszbA8

Perfect Cell Runs. Quite futuristic and spacey. Remember this when Cell kicked Krillin almost to death.

BT3 off meds | The final fight

Ah, the Alpha and the Omega. As all life was created from Chaos...so shall it be DESTROYED!!!

The wails of machines | Singing cold harmony | Shifting air upward | Entranced by the breeze | Light pours like blood | Into a cosmic sea | Of stars crystallized | In a frozen symphony

Vegetto kicking you into orbit theme

Super Buu's theme and Ginyu Transformation (probably could be retitled, don't really asscociate it with Ginyu at all).

It's not secret I don't like the dub or the fact that the original score was replaced, but a few select tracks are really great, in my opinion:

Gohan Angers:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8aIoSBlK1BA

Supreme Kai's Theme:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gH7I5Xg9WK8

Vegito's Theme:

Vegeta Knows His Son:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RqtIkhBbiDY

Pretty great stuff, to be honest. Too bad they had to exist under shitty circumstances. But anyways..

Trunks Story is my favorite. A great progression of themes and tones. Really sets the scene for some quieter moments. And that bass that kicks in around 1:20... aw man. :) Memories.

Second runner might be Frieza vs Spirit Bomb Part 2. Some apocalyptic world ending stuff. Once again it's that bass line.

Frieza vs. Spirit Bomb Part 2 - If there's a track that conveys a transcendent struggle in the Kikuchi score as well as this piece, I'd like to hear a few suggestions.

Wow, you're helping. I find most background music to be extended, looping stuff. That's the nature of the beast. Since most of these tracks available on CDs (or YouTube these days) are 2 minutes or so, often less, they rarely repeat or overstay their welcome.

I turned up some more good ones, in any case.
Vegeta Snoozes which has a mixed intro but really settles in around 50 seconds.

Nails Gift which occasionally resurfaced remixed for Android 16.

Hate the score and the dub but I'm not here to argue the quality or the ethics behind it.

I enjoy the 'Inside Buu' theme - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YSEnGwLXxGU

Mainly because it's just the X-Men Legends 'Sentinel Lab (Quiet)' theme with some electric guitars shoved on top.

EDIT: Well, apparently I've been misinformed this whole time. It's a Yamamoto track. I guess that explains why it was the only 'Faulconer' track I liked

That's Yamamoto not Faulconer. But I agree it's awesome.

"Time Chamber" is probably my favorite Faulconer track. Especially the portion that is the music used when Goku buries Vegeta. It had no business being in the show, but for Faulconer, it was a pretty good piece.

He doesn't want to kill anyone, or even prove that he can win... he just wants to know he can. He's an ineffably charming bastard who's manly leanings were really incendental, and yes, the fact that he was voiced by a squeaky woman made the combination perhaps all the more charming.

Why is it called time chamber btw? He debut before ROSAT and I don't recall a time chamber. Unless they mean Popo's little time machine thingy

As I recall, Faulconer never scored those earlier episodes (obviously not in the first dub and I think not even in the redub). I think several of Faulconer's tracks were named retroactively. It was pretty clear when the in-house dub started that the music was being made and placed largely at random and certain tracks eventually settled on specific situations. The music that they ultimately used for the "Episode is ending" moments (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pN87YVgP6es) originally appeared at various moments during the Ginyu episodes.
