Highest point of the series

Post by EXBadguy » Mon Mar 30, 2015 11:06 pm

Since there's the lowest part thread, why not make the opposite?

For me

Series: All of King Piccolo saga, Frieza saga until the last fight, all of Android/Cell saga, half of Super 17, and most of the Shadow Dragon saga

Movies: Movies 2, 6-8(though for movie 8, I think the "unofficial" rock soundtrack was a huge plus. It really does fit for Broly), 12, and the second half of 13

The Super Saiyan transformation and all it involved.

Easily, at that.

The Saiyan Saga, and the Freeza saga was Dragon Ball at its best.

Goku punching a hole through King Piccolo, Goku turning SSJ for the first time, or the SSJ2 Gohan goodness. All were terrific for me.

For an extended stretch, I'd say the pre-Ginyu Force Namek portion. So much tension, and you had three sides (Earth, Vegeta, Freeza's Army) all trying to make their wishes.

Dunno why, but I didn't like that "war" at first.

For me the highest point of the series was between the Future Trunks Saga lasting up until the end of the Cell Games Saga. I thought the whole Artifical Humans Arc was the best and despite its flaws there's not really anything that I don't like about it. (I also enjoyed the movies that were set around this time period)

I thought the Majin Arc started off great and mysterious, but once Goku, Gohan, Kaioshin and Vegeta boarded Babidi's ship it began to lose its steam - once the Fusion Saga began I lost any hope that I had for the AH Arc being topped.

I felt similarly I'd say. Back when only the Ocean dub was available, the series repeated the first 53 episodes over and over (ending when Goku defeats Recoome and starts fighting Jeice/Burter). The first "season" had a final enemy in Vegeta, but the second was open-ended, ending mid-saga on a cliffhanger. Everyone wanted to see Goku face off against Captain Ginyu and Freeza, but with the "season" ending where it did, that never happened.

Rewatching, and reading the manga for that portion, after having seen the conclusion of the Namek arc, I think it's easier to appreciate the build-up (as well as the foreshadowing of the SSJ transformation).

Even though within this period there are definitely highlight moments (and a small handful after it), I think the best stretch of Dragon Ball starts with episode 17, "With Life At Stake! Milk Delivery" and goes with a fury of awesomeness til Trunks shows up. For those who like TVTropes, Milk Delivery is when DB grew its beard, Trunks killing Freeza is when it jumped the shark.

But for more specific moments, I suppose...
Goku and Kuririn training with Muten Roshi
Goku training with Karin
Goku and Tao's rematch
Goku storming RRA base
Goku reuniting with Gohan
Jackie Chun vs Tenshinhan, and the resulting conversation afterward
Ten's resolve to learn the Mafuba
Goku saving Ten from Drum
Goku training with Mr. Popo and Kami (anime only)
Goku winning the using Bukujutsu, winning the Tenka-ichi Budokai, refusing to become God, and flying off on Kinto Un with wifey to learn where the penis goes
Goku and Piccolo teaming up on Raditz
All the Nappa/Vegeta fight, from Ten vs Saibaiman #1, to Vegeta flying off into space. So fucking good.
Kuririn using Kienzan + Headbutt combo on Dodoria
Reacoom fight
Piccolo vs Freeza
Goku breaking away from Freeza, who was hold him under water to use x10 Kamehameha (anime only)
Goku's I Am speech
Goku's declaration that he's done fighting Freeza

And post shark jump, I still like...
Piccolo yelling at everyone about being Piccolo Daimao
Piccolo merging with Kami
Piccolo vs Imperfect Cell
Kuririn saving family from Cell
#16 vs Imperfect Cell
Supaa Bejita
Gohan teaching Videl how to fly
Vegeta vs Majin Buu
Mr. Satan and Buu, just all of it
Goku and Vegeta inside Buu (anime only)
The entire Kid Buu fight

Agreed. It's the most iconic and memorable thing of the series.
Why Dragon Ball Consistency in something such as power levels matter!

I'd say from the end of the Freeza arc all the way up until Gohan defeats Cell.

I loved how everything from the beginning of what we call the DBZ portion built up so well to Namek and Goku turning Super Saiyan.

I also loved Vegeta's sacrifice and character development in the Boo arc.

Episode 183

Despite me being a huge Gohan hater, the Highest/Greatest/Ultimate point was Gohan letting out the screams from the depths of Hell while Tamashi BGM playing.

Hmm, I would say the Namek-Freeza arc was the first high point of the series, then the series went into a lull of sorts with the Andriod/Cell saga, then it picked up again with the Majin Vegeta and Goku fight all the way through Vegeta's sacrifice, then it lulled again until Vegetto appeared, and then it lulled again after Goku defeated Kid Buu and finally the series picked up again with BoG and RF!

Is not necessarily the best but it's the Golden Age for me. 100% Freeza VS Goku and when Trunks first time arrived, until the Cell Games. Everything in that period Movies, specials, Ova's are the highest point for me.I used to buy uncolored chibi figures and paint them myself and Buying Carddass cards from a machine or pulling a card from a paperback. It was the best time ever.
