Some Herms' translated Volume F tidbits from over on Twitter:

• Toriyama thought he couldn't make Freeza's design any simpler, so he changed the color instead. Thus Golden Freeza was born!
• SSGSS's blue hair was in order to emphasize that Goku is tranquil in this form, and keeps a level head in battle.
• Bulma had Capsule Corp's development department knock up Vegeta's (slightly) new-and-improved armor under her instructions.

Any more tidbits? The thing about the blue hair emphasizing tranquility is interesting.

I was right to not expect anything over the top. Even though I still don't like the color scheme, seems like he doesn't want to make over the top tranformations anymore.

I was right to not expect anything over the top. Even though I still don't like the color scheme, seems like he doesn't want to make over the top tranformations anymore.

It definitely explains all the recent transformations (SSJG, SSJGSSJ, Golden Freeza) having simplistic designs rather than extremely over the top ones.

Of course that's going to make him forget which transformation is which even more. He couldn't even remember which design was SSJ2 and SSJ3 and those two are radically different.

Not really, those forms were done like two decades ago. This stuff is recent, and shouldn't be so distant in his mind (besides, I believe he said he forgot about SSJ2 and thought SSJ3 was SSJ2, which isn't that surprising, given SSJ2 is less an extreme change from SSJ than SSJ3).

Yeah, the new transformations are bad and their names lame (SSGSS really?) but you/we can't do anything to change it.
