Characters getting power ups in Super
How would you feel if during DBS one of the Z fighters were to attain some random power up similar to the spirit water and potential unleash that somehow puts them on par, or at least makes them able to keep up with Goku and Vegeta?

Re: Characters getting power ups in Super
I honestly don't want anymore power ups or transformations of any kind in Dragon Ball Super; unless it's for the human cast, because they so desperately need it.

Well, there's a chance Oob will be getting a major power up from the last time we saw him, but, in general, I'd like to see any of the weaker Z-Warriors get power ups, specifically Kuririn or Tenshinhan.

Re: Characters getting power ups in Super
Only character I want getting a power-up is Piccolo.
I would say Gohan, but he'd probably lose it in the next episode cause he didn't train.

"Dragon Ball once became a thing of the past to me, but after that, I got angry about the live action movie, re-wrote an entire movie script, and now I'm complaining about the quality of the new TV anime. It seems Dragon Ball has grown on me so much that I can't leave it alone." - Akira Toriyama on Dragon Ball Super
Re: Characters getting power ups in Super
But that would mean trying to make other people useful...that's just blasphemy to our current overlords.
Why Dragon Ball Consistency in something such as power levels matter!

Wouldn't mind it in the least. If I had to choose, I'd enjoy seeing Piccolo or Tenshinhan get it. Would be nice to see one of Goku's big former rivals catch back up.

Tien and Krillin fusion to become Krillien? 3 eyes krillin. I kid I kid.
But yea....maybe they find a new master to train them! Like Goku. Personally I dont really fancy "power-ups". Feels like a cheat to me. I want to see them train (maybe like in the original Dragon Ball) and that way we can see some more screentime and development for them.

If there was any time in the entire series for Tiencha(From Budokai 2) to become canon, Dragonball Super is the place for it to happen.
Otherwise some good ol' human ingenuity: Let the Saiyans do the heavy lifting, and the Humans use the Mafuba or Genki Dama or something when the foe is distracted.

Re: Characters getting power ups in Super
Totally up for Piccolo, Krillin, Tien and Yamcha to get a huge boost in power(how about actually giving the characters that need Kaioken the damn power up?)
...that or have them be used more strategically;
Maybe have teamwork ACTUALLY WORK for once, rather than their combined efforts doing absolutely nothing until Goku or Vegeta turn up and one shot the opponent they all couldn't even scratch combined.
Honestly I'd of preferred the gang to specialise in certain areas rather than Goku and Vegeta be stronger, tougher, faster, better ki control, better ki sensing, better ki manipulation, more power ups and more lucky breaks than the rest of the cast combined. No wonder no one else can keep up when the pure saiyans are superior in nearly every single department. The only exception to this rule is Piccolo being the smartest fighter and having some mystical powers.
For example:
Piccolo: Strategy/mystical abilities
Krillin: Toughness(Turtle school training toughens up the body, right? Krillin studied it longer than both Goku and Yamcha, have this reflect)
Tien: Ki manipulation (Crane school training seems to lean towards this)
Yamcha: Speedster (As he's wolf themed, Yamcha seems to attack fast at least in the beginning. Should have kept this up)

It actualy worked against Vegeta, back then in Saiyan arc.Akyon wrote: Maybe have teamwork ACTUALLY WORK for once, rather than their combined efforts doing absolutely nothing until Goku or Vegeta turn up and one shot the opponent they all couldn't
A world without Dragon Ball is just meh.

Other times too. Guldo was beaten with team work, and Cell, even Frieza and Kid Buu. Goku wouldn't have been able to make a spirit bomb if it wasn't for team work.FortuneSSJ wrote:It actualy worked against Vegeta, back then in Saiyan arc.Akyon wrote: Maybe have teamwork ACTUALLY WORK for once, rather than their combined efforts doing absolutely nothing until Goku or Vegeta turn up and one shot the opponent they all couldn't
Even the filler has team work. Gohan, Krillin and Piccolo vs Garlic Jr and his men and Tien, Chiaotzu and Yamcha taking on the Ginyu force on King Kai's planet.
Re: Characters getting power ups in Super
That last example wasn't really teamwork unless you're counting Jeice and Burta teaming up to fight Ten. That was just three simultaneous fights that didn't really interweave, but the others are admittedly legit, even if the majority are a string of One Vs. One fights to buy Goku time to make a Spirit Bomb.Scott wrote:Other times too. Guldo was beaten with team work, and Cell, even Freeza and Kid Buu. Guess I was just thinking of everyone ganging up against a villain like in the Nappa fight or two vs. one like the Raditz fight, but your examples were indeed teamwork efforts.

Re: Characters getting power ups in Super
No more Saiyan power ups hopefully.
But I'd rather everyone else get some sort of god boost in some way to transcend them a few tiers to at least match the standard base now.

If that's all you want, then all you want is fanservice, rather than an actual coherent story. And of course those aren't mutually exclusive; you could have a coherent story with "shine" moments! But if a story is perfectly coherent (and I'm really not seeing any compelling arguments that this one is anything but, despite constantly recurring, really poorly reasoned, attempts to argue otherwise), and you're bemoaning the lack of "shine" moments as a reason for the story's poor quality, then you're letting your thirst for "shine" moments obfuscate your ability to detect basic storytelling when it's right in front of you.
Re: Characters getting power ups in Super
I'd prefer that they not make any more Saiyan transformations for now. What they could focus on is making the rest of the cast apart from Goku and Vegeta gain them so they can have some relevance to the plot.
The human characters and Piccolo should get some though. I remember a Dragon Ball game from a while ago that had him fuse with his father and he was stated to be able to defeat Buu. Having him fuse with others and maybe have some type of technique that is very powerful would allow him to be relevant as well.

Re: Characters getting power ups in Super
Interesting question.
I love Gohan, but Z was his story to me...he seems to have moved on by RoF into his life of academia & raising a family. Presumably Super will be either an immediate continuation, or one a few years after those events (and possibly the 28th TB), so I'd think he'll continue on that path.
Uub and Pan are not options here unless it's post 28th TB (if they keep the epilogue), so the obvious choice to me is Piccolo. I'm not sure how you can make him relevant from a plot perspective. One or two of the video games touched on reviving Piccolo Daimao, and having them fuse to 'restore' the original being that arrived on earth so many years ago. The issue with this being, Piccolo (Ma Jr.) being a reincarnation or at the very least a special offspring might mean Piccolo Daimao doesn't exist anymore, even in Hell (my thinking since Kami didn't die).
Maybe Kuririn or Tenshinhan? Online had them founding the 'New' Turtle and Crane schools if I'm remembering correctly, so maybe some power-up would make that part of the lore more interesting, but it wouldn't be particularly believable.
I think it'd have to be Piccolo, unless they can somehow bring Future Trunks back into the fold.

Re: Characters getting power ups in Super
I'm in all likelihood not getting my adorable ssjg Gokû back, so let them do whatever they want. Keep or replace blueper, I don't care.
I'd rather see new techniques instead of new power ups, to be honest.
Have Beerus teach them some techniques like his big ol sun sized ki ball.
Or break dancing. He could teach that too. :3

You do know, this is Dragonball right? Power ups are tantamount to character progression in Shonen, and Toriyama more or less wrote the book on it.Lord Beerus wrote:I honestly don't want anymore power ups or transformations of any kind in Dragon Ball Super; unless it's for the human cast, because they so desperately need it.

Re: Characters getting power ups in Super
I want Uub to get some God-like/Ultimate Evolution-esque power-up so bad. He is Kid Buu's reincarnation, he should be able to display a similar potential like Freeza did in the last movie, or even greater. I want him to be on par with SSJGSSJ Goku at least as he was worthy for Goku's attention.
I think it's enough out of Goku and Vegeta, and Saiyan centrism in general. Goku's goal is to protect the Earth, Uub's totally earthling, so he should pass the responsibility to the younger generation, and a human(like Uub himself) is the most justified to do that duty. Toriyama said the cast is too old at the time of the meeting Uub, so I'd like Goku to be the main supporting character of Uub. At most, Goku should just show how to fight opponents and incite him how to find their weaknesses.
