"Dragon Ball Super (Manga)" Official Discussion Thread
Moderator Edit:
Dragon Ball Super's manga adaptation is published in V-Jump. The magazine is released on the 21st of each month, barring a Sunday or holiday, in which case it gets moved up slightly.
-------------
Since the July issue of V-Jump has announced that Dragon Ball Super is going to receive a manga adaption released within future V-Jump issues exclusively, and will be illustrated by Toyotarō who is also the author of Dragon Ball Heroes: Victory Mission and the recent manga adaption of Dragon Ball Z: Revival of F; I want to know your thoughts!
Are you excited? Scared? Shocked?
Sorry for any confusion from the initial post.

According to VegettoEX, there have been some site issues the last of couple days but Kanzenshuu's own report will be coming sooner than later!!
I am just beyond excited!!

"Never give in--never, never, never, never, in nothing great or small, large or petty, never give in except to convictions of honour and good sense. Never yield to force; never yield to the apparently overwhelming might of the enemy." ~ Sir Winston Chruchill / Dragon Ball Z in a nutshell
How I enjoy the anime:

My thoughts exactly! Hopefully we don't have to wait a long time to purchase English versions.Kakarot88 wrote:I am just beyond excited!!

It might be hard to get used to non-Toriyama drawings, but I'm super optimistic about this. Hope to see a tankobon release
Re: Super's manga written by Toriyama drawn by Toyotarō
So it's just an adaptation of the anime?

Yep. Just like how the ROF manga was an adaption of the movie. It's pretty cool.Bullza wrote:So it's just an adaptation of the anime?

Hm, wonder why SSJ Goku has blonde hair again. Also has his old gi, though maybe the outfit from the new movie might be too tough to draw very often. Perhaps Super will take place immediately following Buu after all?
I could be reading too much into it though. Might just be stock character art.

It's almost definitely stock art, yeah. I actually think I recognize it too...I want to say from when the Boo arc of Kai was first announced?
I also can't help but wonder what our chances are of actually getting this manga over here, since it would presumably be more substantial than other recent manga outings, and more of a big deal than what SD became.

Hopefully Viz picks this up for their digital Weekly Shonen Jump. They also include monthly stuff like Blue Exorcist and Seraph of the End from Jump SQ, and Yu-Gi-Oh! ZEXAL (which is ending) from V-Jump, so the release schedule and it not being in WSJ proper shouldn't be issues.

If only Toei gave a shit about Kai 2.0 then it would have been the perfect year for Dragon Ball.SansrivaaL wrote:2015, the year of DB!

Almost certainly because Toyotaro's art looks more like Toriyama's than Ooishi's does.

Why not? I though his artwork for the ROF manga was quite good.Dyno wrote:Why Toyotaro?

Why is this even necessary?
Re: Super's manga written by Toriyama drawn by Toyotarō
Only when he puts lot of effort to it and "have time". Even from a huge distance his art doesn't look like Toriyama going by Dragon Ball Heroes: Victory Mission. Well, I'll be neutral, I hope his arts got even better than what was seen in Movie 15's manga.TheDevilsCorpse wrote:Almost certainly because Toyotaro's art looks more like Toriyama's than Ooishi's does.
Re: Super's manga written by Toriyama drawn by Toyotarō
If you ask that question you could ask if the original DB manga by Toriyama was necessary. I don't mind this, I actually welcome it, especially if the plan is to have the manga stay ahead of the anime.Doctor. wrote:Why is this even necessary?

The more tie-in products there are with Dragon Ball Super, the more exposure the anime gets.Doctor. wrote:Why is this even necessary?

That doesn't make sense. The DB manga came first, and then got adapted. On the other hand, this manga is an adaptation of the anime that is already going to be running when this starts publishing.sangofe wrote:If you ask that question you could ask if the original DB manga by Toriyama was necessary. Not really. It almost always looks more like Toriyama's than Ooishi's does, even when he's in a rush. Ooishi is great at Freeza race characters, but everything else usually leaves a little something to be desired. Not that her art is bad, it's just not as good at feeling like Toriyama Dragon Ball.Dyno wrote:Only when he puts lot of effort to it and "have time". She's getting better from the last time I saw her SD stuff though.
The manga is debuting next month, two weeks ahead of the anime (assuming the July 5th date turns out to be correct).Doctor. wrote:That doesn't make sense. The above ad says the manga starts in August.TheDevilsCorpse wrote:The manga is debuting next month, two weeks ahead of the anime (assuming the July 5th date turns out to be correct).
Anyway, there are numerous situations where one doesn't have a video player at her disposal and even then some prefer reading manga because you can control the pace.
