Hi there all!
Next week I am going for a couple of weeks on vacation to Japan. I will be visiting different cities, and one of them will be Nagoya.
As far as I know, Akira Toriyama lives in Nagoya, I actually have the address of his home/bird studio. I am planning on going to his place, knock on the door and give him a bottle of wine from my hometown.
I know this sound kind of crazy, lets see if he is at his place, and first, if he opens the door, and second, if he could drawn me a quick draft of Gohan and sing it.
Just wanted to share with you all my crazy idea

As far as I know Toriyama lives in Kiyosu now, not Nagoya.
Also, don't expect miracles. He is a very private man, that cannot be understated.

Don't.
In the last photos we saw, he had a sign outside of his house asking you to leave him alone, too.

Seconded. That note asking for his privacy has been up for like a decade now. If you have any respect for the man and really want to show your appreciation for his efforts on the franchise you enjoy, you'll leave him alone like he's asking.

Actually, Kiyosu is the area of Nagoya where Bird Studio is.
I am not planning on been a pain in the ass to him, just wanted to give him a "present", a good bottle of wine from northern Spain, nothing more. If he does not open the door or rejects it... OK, I already have "no". I least I will try it. Not planning on camping outside his house or knock his door for one hour...

We'll be watching the news looking for you. If you do it, you're not only going to taint yourself but also the fan base as we all are going to be placed in the same bag as you. No lo hagas.

Fair enough, you could well be right as I don't know Japan Geography.

If you really want to do something like this you may be better off mailing your present to Toriyama's address. That's the only thing I could think of that might be somewhat successful (if even). I know Toriyama said in the manga he received gifts from fans and was grateful for them, but, as others have said steer away from his house if you respect his privacy, if he's not comfortable with strangers and that's his prerogative, we can't change it.

This isn't about not being a pain in his ass by acting like an obsessed fan, it's about respecting the man's wishes in general, as a person. The note has been there for like a decade and asks to be left alone, saying they aren't even accepting fan mail anymore. I understand that you're trying to be nice an show your appreciation with a present, but this is a different culture with different rules. By ignoring his request, it's no longer about showing appreciation for his work, but self-gratification; which, unfortunately, will come off as rude.

Coming from someone with a famous parent, I really urge you not to do it.
You mean well, I'm sure you do, but turning up at a stranger's home is a bit much. Respect their personal space.
As
Dragon Ball Ireland suggested, a letter or package sent is much more appreciated.
Sure, that was actually my plan, leaving there the bottle of wine at his front door with a short letter thanking him for his work, I am 95% percent sure he is not gonna be there once I arrive... I know knocking at his door may be quite "
hard" but as far as I am gonna have the chance of being there I do not wanna miss the chance.

No offence, but if you are not Japanese, and the man peaks out his window to see you with a bottle of wine, he's more than likely going to call the police, as it is a completely different culture. (ESPECIALLY with Dragon Ball Merch on!) I'm not sure how appearing on someones front door step unannounced, and unknown with a bottle of wine is looked at there. I'm sure if he has that sign up about leaving him alone, he also has a "No Trespassing" up too. You might be doing more harm then good, as you think it is a nice gesture, but he may look at it as being the complete opposite. I'd imagine a man as famous as himself, more than likely has people in his neighborhood escorted off his probably on a daily basis as it is.

Isn't it ironic that he lives in an orange brick house?

I get the point of all of you guys, 100%, and it is true, their culture is completely different, he is a shy guy, he has a message asking for privacy and so on.
But tell me, honestly, if you guys were in front of his door with a little present for him wouldn't you try to give him on hand? I just don't wanna come back to Spain thinking that I were at his front door and did not even try to knock once to see if he was there and give him this little present on hand
PS. And no, I am not gonna go there with any Dragon Ball merchandise with me, just my Vans, my pants, my hoodie and my backpack.

Toriyama probably only allows his family, closest friends and the people that he works with (Toei, Sueisha and Square Enix) to visit him. I would imagine he does this to avoid fans always coming over and asking him for millions of questions or asking him to "Sign this please!".

If he had a sign up saying "leave me alone," one would hope that most people would just leave him alone. You shouldn't be on his property anyway.
Politeness is a quintessential virtue in Japanese culture, and what you are considering doing would be very rude, which is a much bigger deal there than it is in the west. And, to be honest, I'd imagine that showing up unannounced at a celebrity's house would be just as inconsiderate in Spain.

Don't listen to these naysayers. In fact, take it to the next level. Dress up as Goku and break through one of his windows to show your devotion.
"Dragon Ball once became a thing of the past to me, but after that, I got angry about the live action movie, re-wrote an entire movie script, and now I'm complaining about the quality of the new TV anime. It seems Dragon Ball has grown on me so much that I can't leave it alone." - Akira Toriyama on Dragon Ball Super

I wouldn't, it would be selfish and disrespectful. By reading and buying his art, it's already showing your appreciation. The man has a sign not to be bothered, you don't know him personally. It is incredibly intrusive if you knock on his door. My advise don't do it.

To be honest I don't speak Japanese so if he did open the door, that'd be its own journey. As far as if I'd do it, I'd probably be afraid of getting took to jail or something, as if he had a no trespassing sign up, I would not know it because i don't speak the language. In all fairness, I'd just hope to catch him out in his yard, and wave at him or something as I'm walking by.
