Yeah, that was an epic line. And Lani injuring his voice, ouch, but sounds like he would agree to it being worth it in the end.
Honestly, while Drummond isn't my Vegeta, he is really good in the role & I understand why other people love him. That scream was epic as fuck.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x_rKkoXOsDk It's pretty crazy to hear Za Warudo reference way before David Productions Jojo Part 3 remake, it's pretty cool Jojo dub referenced you guys :) Also, loved that Capcom PSX game, it was also one of first fighting games with such expanded Story Mode...

a lot of Guldo love in this episode. Can't wait until they talk about HFIL.

I guess I shouldn't be surprised people didn't know the Jojo Reference. I only know because I looked up the memes long before reading the manga or watching the anime. Hilarious that the reference actually hits harder now that everyone is caught up. Also need to rewatch Stardust Crusaders, didn't notice their TFS crapbaskets reference.

I just realized this, but I like how Sailor Moon exists both as a real person & a fictional character in DBZA.

I believe they announced this on Twitter, but basically, they'll be uploading every half a week now with 1 episode each from here on out, though I imagine they'll still do the multi-part season finales in 1 go.

I can't imagine how much extra editing this episode required Scott back then. It's really impressive.

I had no idea they got fans to play the audience, that's epic :D

In 2011, all of the wrestling stuff went over my head. I was almost 20 years removed from when I had an interest in Wrestling, and back when I had that interest, I believed it was real. Now, in the last 7 years I've been watching a show on the internet that had the pageantry of wrestling without the actual wrestling, so rewatching this episode, and then watching the commentary, I was eating this episode up.

Episode 20 is definitely 1 of my favorite episodes of Abridged & I don't even care for wrestling. It's honestly just so enjoyable. And I'm glad Lani broke down most of the wrestling terminology they used because it definitely helps understand the homage to wrestling the episode was. Props to Kaiser for all of the editing back then because it was definitely worth it.

"Butter! That will go great on my Grand Slam!"

Just like DBZA helped me appreciate more Vegeta's unwillingness to stay down in the previous arc, DBZA reminds me how annoying it is to see Goku destroy everyone so handily. Like, no contest. Didn't even need Kaioken.

Even though it's shown Saiyans get stronger after every battle they take lots of physical damage in & Goku was established to be training for days on end at 100x Earth's gravity while on the way to Namek?

We gain hype, but we lose narrative tension. For the rest of the time with the Ginyu Force, the story has to jump through hoops to ensure there is something of a satisfying ending. And imho, it didn't have to be like that. Toriyama didn't have to make Goku so insanely strong. He could've did all the 100x gravity and zenkai, and still need Kaioken to put Burter and Recoome down, they are supposed to be an elite force of fighters after all. Goku still wins, just has to sweat a little bit, and there would still be plenty of tension left for Ginyu.

Toriyama was pushing the Super Saiyan idea att that point. The ginyu force jobbing gets in our head had powerful a Super Saiyan could be and that in turn shows why Frieza really is the strongest in the universe.

I don't mind if in an animated medium the characters physically switch voices if it makes sense for how they've switched bodies. Although, I respect when they don't do that even more. However, if it's live action, there's no excuse. Like in the Harry Potter movies (minus 4) when the people who drink Polyjuice Potion don't have their voices changed too like in the books. THAT was stupid.

Naturally Scott would think to mention the "There's a site too?!" joke, I love it.

Was Namekamania the first episode to have as elaborate a promo trailer as it did? For its convention premiere of course, but it is the first of its kind I remember, and I did appreciate the enthusiasm. No one has to tell me Gan was loving the Reccome bit, it just comes through screen, and was such a pleasant surprise for a character I never thought much of. The Ginyus are so consciously goofy and self-indulgent in the original material already that the TFS version's even sharper focus on their egos and rendering of their fights as televised fourth wall breaking performances comes off less as a spoof and more the dairy doofuses just getting to cut loose. One wonders what we would have gotten had they appeared in an earlier, less serious point in Toriyama's 15 years of manga serialization.

I try to put myself in Toriyama's shoes at that moment, and I can see the problem. He is stuck between satisfyingly resolving the Ginyu Force, whose group nature discourages you from simply having Goku promptly deck all of them ala Drum or Nappa, clearly wanting to save Goku's best flexing for the Freeza fight, all the while not knowing how exactly Freeza's transformation(s) or this new Super Saiyan plot point are going to work. So we get this half-and-half in which Recoome and Burter go down quickly as if we're rushing to the Freeza fight, only to get Ginyu's body change to hold us up again and justify his being there. Funny enough, had we known that Goku would ultimately be resting in a healing tank for a while and getting stronger from having gotten beat up, a more strenuous fight with the Ginyus would have worked to his advantage.
