Chapter Synopsis

Piccolo comes back down to the ring, as Goku’s impressed that he took the Super Kamehameha so easily. The announcer, along with the rest of the audience, starts to notice something about Piccolo without his turban, and Lunch mentions him now resembling Demon King Piccolo. The rest of the audience bustles with agreement, until Piccolo shouts, “It’s natural I’d resemble him!!! I’m Demon King Piccolo’s reincarnation!!!!”

Piccolo goes on about his plans to take over the world again once Son Goku’s dead, and then the entire audience hauls ass out of there. Except for Oolong, Lunch, Bulma, and Pu’er, and the announcer hop over the barricade and join them, continuing to call things. Goku tells Chi-Chi, Kame-Sen’nin, Kuririn, Yamcha, and Tenshinhan to all go join them, and so they leave from the back wall area over into the remains of the audience.

Piccolo says they’ll love his next attack, and starts powering up for it. Suddenly, Piccolo starts to grow, and ends up about King Kong size. Piccolo punches down at Goku, and then stomps down, but Goku just barely hops out of the way of both. Goku has jumped up to Piccolo’s eye level, and so Piccolo swats him down to the ring, hitting hard. Tenshinhan offers to lend a hand, but Goku declines, since he can’t win the match like that.

Chapter Notes

  • Each issue of Weekly Shōnen Jump features short comments from the various series’ authors, giving fans a brief insight into their current thoughts, ranging from series-related announcements to trivial happenings in their personal lives. Akira Toriyama’s comments from this issue were:

    息子が大きくなるまで映画を見に行きにくいので、ビデオでガマン。ビデオの山ができました <明>

It’ll be difficult to go to the movies until my son gets bigger, so I’m tiding myself over with videos. I’ve got a mountain of videos now. <Akira>

This is one of the comments featured in Daizenshuu 7.

Page Breakdown

The majority of the Dragon Ball series was drawn in black and white, but chapters were occasionally published with color pages. This breakdown notes how many full-color, limited-color, and black-and-white pages appeared in this chapter. As the tankōbon volumes were not released with these colors intact, any color pages shown are taken from the kanzenban release.
