Chapter Synopsis
‘Goku’ and Jheese wonder what’s going on with the Dragon Balls being dug up, but then Kuririn comes running out of hiding. He figures Goku defeated that Ginyu guy and his henchman is on their side now. ‘Goku’ asks how he knew where the Dragon Balls were, and Kuririn tells him they used the Dragon Radar, of course. ‘Goku’ figures they’ve made a wish, but Kuririn explains that Shenlong wouldn’t come out. ‘Goku’ is glad to hear that. Kuririn says Goku’s acting kind of weird, and asks why he’s wearing a scouter. Gohan then yells out, “Kuririn-san!!!! That’s not Father!!!!” But it’s too late, and ‘Goku’ hits Kuririn in the face, knocking him back a bit. Kuririn wonders what’s going on, and Gohan insists that it isn’t Father, though he doesn’t know how. ‘Goku’ explains that they’ve switched bodies, and he poses with Jheese and says, “That’s right!!! It’s me, the commander of the Ginyu Special-Squad, Ginyu!!!” ‘Goku’ then decides to show off his incredible over 180,000 battle power, as Kuririn still thinks Goku has been hypnotized. Then ‘Goku’ charges at them.
‘Ginyu’ is trying to hurry to reach Kuririn and Gohan, but he isn’t used to this body. But then he realizes, “Since I’m not used to this body, he must also not be used to my body!” Meanwhile, ‘Goku’ kicks at Kuririn and Gohan, and they both jump out of the way. Then he punches at them, and they both keep trying to block it, and Vegeta wonders why Kakarrot isn’t fighting at full power. Kuririn and Gohan continue holding him off, while Jheese points out that ‘Ginyu’ has arrived. ‘Ginyu’ explains that that guy isn’t him, and they switched bodies. Kuririn and Gohan finally realize it must be true. He tells them it’s Ginyu, and they should be able to defeat him as they are now. ‘Goku’ says there’s no way he can lose in this body, and ‘Ginyu’ says he’ll find out soon. He doesn’t know how to use the Kaiō-Ken, and his spirit and body need to be as one, so he can’t use all of his power. ‘Goku’ thinks he’s talking crap, starts to power up, and asks Jheese what his battle power is. 23,000… ‘Goku’ can’t believe this, as Kuririn knocks him down towards the ground. ‘Goku’ then tells Jheese to help fight, until Vegeta shows up behind Jheese and says, “Your opponent is me!” ‘Ginyu’ is glad to see Vegeta.
Chapter Notes
-
Each issue of Weekly Shōnen Jump features short comments from the various series’ authors, giving fans a brief insight into their current thoughts, ranging from series-related announcements to trivial happenings in their personal lives. Akira Toriyama’s comments from this issue were:
今年のお盆はムックと本誌の仕事でお休みなし。ご先祖の霊の皆さま,ごめんなさい。<明>
This year, I had no break for Bon, with work for a mook and this comic. All the spirits of my ancestors, please forgive me. <Akira>Part of o-Bon tradition is going to the family gravesite and cleaning it up, making fresh offerings of incense, water and flowers. Toriyama obviously missed out with his work schedule.
Page Breakdown
The majority of the Dragon Ball series was drawn in black and white, but chapters were occasionally published with color pages. This breakdown notes how many full-color, limited-color, and black-and-white pages appeared in this chapter. As the tankōbon volumes were not released with these colors intact, any color pages shown are taken from the kanzenban release.
