Nappa is a fictional character in the Dragon Ball manga series by Akira Toriyama. Nappa makes his debut in chapter 204, published in the 1989 #01/02 issue of Shueisha's Weekly Shōnen Jump, as one of the few survivors of the Saiyan race.

Biography
Nappa is one of the few Saiyans to survive the destruction of Planet Vegeta. Continuing to serve under Freeza, Nappa discovers a potential planet to sell at a high price with Vegeta and Raditz. However, the job may prove to be difficult for even the three of them and decide to recruit Raditz's lost brother Kakarot, presumably alive on Earth after being sent shortly before Planet Vegeta's destruction. Nappa later listens in on Raditz's scouter as he is subsequently killed on Earth by his brother and the Namekian Piccolo, and discovers the existence of the Dragon Balls. Nappa and Vegeta then depart for a year-long journey to Earth, choosing to not resurrect Raditz and instead wish for eternal life.

The two Saiyans arrive early, a whole month before the estimated year journey, and land November 3rd, Age 762. Nappa gives a twisted 'greeting' to the planet by destroying the city they landed on. Vegeta calls Nappa off from further large scale destruction from fear of retail damage of the planet and possible destruction of the Dragon Ball themselves, the two begin searching for the highest power level, reasoning that it would be Raditz's killer or Kakarot's son. To their surprise, warriors on the planet had been preparing for their arrival and soon began converging to one spot. Nappa is fooled into assessing their power levels through his scouter, until Vegeta realizes that they are capable of hiding their true power. Wishing to draw out their power, Nappa began planting Saibaimen and comments how they will grow well in Earth's soil. Surprised at their apparent strength and their dominance against the Saibaimen, albeit with the loss of Yamcha, Nappa confronts the Earthlings. Despite their success against the Saibaimen, Nappa begins to dominate against the Earth warriors. After, Chiaotzu and Tenshinhan die attempting to kill Nappa, Vegeta resolves to wait for Kakarot, known as Son Goku on Earth, with intentions to make the Saiyan traitor pay in front of his remaining friends and son.

After three hours, and Goku nowhere in sight, Nappa proceeds with his desire to kill the remaining Son Gohan, Kuririn and Piccolo. In the ensuing battle, the Earth warriors desperately try to survive and plan to grab Nappa's tail, a common Saiyan weakness, only to find that Vegeta and Nappa are immune to such a flaw. With Goku finally resurrected and on his way to the battlefield, Nappa and Vegeta plan to wipe out the last three fighters to enrage Goku. With a final blast aimed at Gohan, his attack is shielded by Piccolo and dies as a result. Deflecting Gohan's enraged Masenko, Nappa attempts crush the boy with his foot only to be saved by Kinto'un. At last, Goku arrives and quickly shows immense strength and speed that surpassed even Nappa. Unwillingly to believe Vegeta's reading on Son Goku's power level, Nappa challenges him only to be outclassed. Despite his growing irrational rage at being bested, Nappa surrenders the fight to Vegeta and instead refocuses on Kuririn and Gohan. Goku catches up to Nappa with his Kaioken technique and cripples the Saiyan warrior, with Son Goku advising Vegeta to leave with Nappa for aid. Despite Nappa's pleas for help, Vegeta throws him into the air and obliterates him, reasoning that Nappa serves no purpose if he is incapable of fighting, ending the elite Saiyan.

Name
The name Nappa comes from 菜っ葉 (nappa), referring to leafy vegetables.
Production
Nappa was created by Akira Toriyama as he debuted in the Dragon Ball manga. Toriyama noted that Nappa's design was purposely contrasted from Vegeta's own design, as a larger and visually stronger character, only to be the weaker of the two in actuality.

The name Nappa comes from 菜っ葉 (nappa), referring to leafy vegetables.
Nappa is a fictional character in the Dragon Ball manga series by Akira Toriyama. Nappa makes his debut in chapter 204, published in the 1989 #01/02 issue of Shueisha's Weekly Shōnen Jump, as one of the few survivors of the Saiyan race.

Biography
Nappa was one of the few Saiyans to survive the destruction of Planet Vegeta.

The two Saiyans would arrive early, a whole month before the estimated year journey, and land November 3rd, Age 762. Nappa would soon give a twisted 'greeting' to the planet by destroying the city they landed on. After being called off from further large scaled destruction by Vegeta, from fear of retail damage of the planet and possible destruction of the Dragon Ball themselves, the two begin searching for the highest power level, reasoning that it would be Raditz's killer or Kakarot's son. To their surprise, warriors on the planet had been preparing for their arrival and soon began converging to one spot. Nappa was fooled into assessing their power levels through his scouter, until Vegeta realized that they were capable of hiding their true power. Wishing to draw out their power, Nappa began planting Saibaimen and commented how they'd grow well in Earth's soil. Surprised at their apparent strength and their dominance against the Saibaimen, albeit with the loss of Yamcha, Nappa confronts the Earthlings. Despite their sucess against the Saibaimen, Nappa begins to dominate against the Earth warriors. After, Chiaotzu and Tenshinhan die attempting to kill Nappa, Vegeta resolves to wait for Kakarot, known as Son Goku on Earth, with intentions to make the Saiyan traitor pay in front of his remaining friends and son.

After three hours, and Son Goku nowhere in sight, Nappa proceeds with his desire to kill the remaining Son Gohan, Kuririn and Piccolo. In the ensuing battle, the Earth warriors desperately try to survive and plan to grab Nappa's tail, a common Saiyan weakness, only to find that Vegeta and Nappa are immune to such a flaw. With Son Goku finally resurrected and on his way to the battlefield, Nappa and Vegeta plan to wipe out the last three fighters to enrage Son Goku. With a final blast aimed at Son Gohan, his attack is shielded by Piccolo and dies. Deflecting Son Gohan's enraged Masenko, Nappa attempts crush the boy with his foot only to be saved by Kinto'un. At last, Son Goku had arrived and quickly showed immense strength and speed that surpassed even Nappa. Unwillingly to believe Vegeta's reading on Son Goku's power level, Nappa challenges him only to be outclassed. Despite his growing irrational rage at being bested, Nappa surrendered the fight to Vegeta and instead refocused on Kuririn and Son Gohan. Son Goku catches up to Nappa with his Kaioken technique and cripples the Saiyan warrior, with Son Goku advising Vegeta to leave with Nappa for aid. Despite Nappa's pleas for help, Vegeta throws him into the air and obliterates him, reasoning that Nappa would serve no purpose if he is incapable of fighting, ending the elite Saiyan.

Name
