Manga Review of Awesomeness (Full Listing)

Our legendary “Manga Review of Awesomeness” ran from 2007 to 2011 covering each individual volume of the Dragon Ball manga. During its run, we brought all types of fans together: those who had read it front to back in Japanese and in English, long-time fans that had not read the entirety of the series, and fans that had never touched it before in their lives. We broke down the story, analyzed its pacing and plot progression, and came to understand author Akira Toriyama’s wacky and genius writing style in a whole new dimension. Later editions of the review also introduced our “Viz-isms” section where we detailed changes, edits, and mistranslations that found their way into Viz’s English version of the Dragon Ball manga.

Upon its completion, we naturally moved on to the “Dragon Ball GT Review of Awesomeness“, which is still in-progress!

Definitely check it out.

How did volume two stack up against volume one? Which staples of the series do we get introduced to so early on? We also answered a ton of e-mails and finally gave away that damn boxset that people seem to want… but… don’t actually really want. Bwuahaha. Definitely check it out.

Podcast Episode #0084 — 01 July 2007

Episode #0084 of the podcast is available for download! We recorded in pieces this week, somewhat. Meri and I recorded everything but the topic, while Julian and Jeff (and to an extent [cursing at video games in the background], Andrew) joined in for the full topic discussion. This week, we did volume six of the “Manga Review of Awesomeness”. It would appear that we all enjoyed volume six more than five, but we’re not sure that Toriyama quite knows what he’s doing just yet. Listen in for more thoughts.

Then there’s the AnimeNEXT planning! You can see our schedule up above, and listen in for more details, but rest assured you do not want to miss out on the DBZ Variety Hour next Saturday at 3 pm in Panel 2. We’re going to be playing DBZ trivia gameshows, giving away tons of prizes, and so much more. In fact, everyone who shows up to the panel gets a free promo DVD! Yes!

As for the podcast episode… you know the drill. Definitely check it out.
