			Obotchaman was created as Caramel Man 004, the fourth of Dr. Mashirito's line of Caramel Men robots created to destroy Arale and Dr. Norimaki. Using spy-robots to examine the inner-workings of Arale, Dr. Mashirito designed Caramel Man 004 to function exactly as Arale does, except with more elegant manners.

			Dr. Mashirito tricks Caramel Man 004 into believing that Arale is a dangerous robot out for world domination, though 004 starts to have his doubts after meeting Arale and developing a crush for her. After hurting Dr. Mashirito and failing to kill Arale, Caramel Man 004 is disowned and cast away from his home. With nowhere to live, Caramel Man 004 builds his own home in Penguin Village and takes on the name Obotchaman.
