Vegeta, Jr.'s name follows Son Goku, Jr. in being named for their respective Saiyan ancestors; as such, his name is also a play on "vegetable", dropping the final syllables and elongating one syllable within ベジタブル (''bejitaburu'') to form ベジータ (''bejīta'').
