Re: The end of "Akira Toriyama canon"
On the subject of Star Wars, George Lucas had been a controversial figure among the fanbase since the late 90s. The prequels were a major punching bag back in the day, and Lucas was a frequent subject of ridicule by RedLetterMedia. A lot of fans actually preferred the creatives behind expanded unive...

Re: Akira Toriyama Passes Away.
Is it just me or did Stan Lee not even get this big of a reaction after his passing? I never thought Akira Toriyama's death would impact people more than the guy who helped create Spider-Man and revolutionize Marvel overall. I remember Stan Lee’s passing being a pretty big deal, to the point where ...

Re: The end of "Akira Toriyama canon"
Dragon Ball is all fiction so the debates about “canon” are a bit pointless. I don’t think Shuiesha or Toei care nearly as much about what qualifies as “canon” as fans in the West do. Neither the anime nor the manga versions of DBS have strictly followed the original manga. They’ve pulled stuff from...

Re: Dragon Ball Without Its Creator
I think Super was already on its way out. It’s been apparent for a couple of years now that there hadn’t been any active plans to bring the anime back, and I don’t know how much longer the manga can get stretched out. In terms of what the future of the franchise may hold, I would not be surprised if...

Re: Your watching experience on Toonami
I learned about the series through Toonami. Nothing fancy. I wasn’t remotely aware of all the changes that had been made to the show via the English dub, or even that the show was from Japan. I did notice that there seemed to be a change in the voices and presentation of the show after a certain poi...

Something something “Somehow Zamasu returned.”
I don’t see what else you could do with that character. His story was wrapped up pretty conclusively.

Re: Freeza shouldn’t have been a transforming villain
Alright, look, perhaps “strategy” wasn’t the best word to use. My initial point was only ever that being a “good fighter” doesn’t really matter in Dragon Ball, because more often than not, having a high power level trumps actual fighting skill. Freeza or Raditz not being “skilled fighters,” makes ve...

Re: Freeza shouldn’t have been a transforming villain
I mean yeah except for literally the entire series. Fights in the later parts of Dragon Ball are flashy light shows where the winner is the one with the higher power level. I wouldn’t really call that “martial arts.” The fighting is too simplistic. There’s not really any sense that skill or strateg...

Re: Freeza shouldn’t have been a transforming villain
. For all the talk about how Dragon Ball is a martial arts series, there’s very little actual martial arts. I mean yeah except for literally the entire series. Re: The end of era: Sony discontinues the Funimation brand on April 2
I would imagine that Dragon Ball would’ve most likely received a heavily edited and Americanized dub regardless of who got the license back in the 90s. That was the norm for anime geared towards a younger audience at the time.

Re: Freeza shouldn’t have been a transforming villain
As for martial arts in DB, ki blasts and flight and things of that nature are martial arts. Sure, but as the series goes on, they start to feel less like martial arts and more like superpowers. I mean, even low level grunts in Freeza’s forces seem to at least be capable of flight, and Freeza himsel...

Re: Freeza shouldn’t have been a transforming villain
It’s somewhat debatable how skilled of a fighter Raditz actually is. He was completely helpless when Goku grabbed his tail, even though Goku himself overcame that weakness when he was a kid, and and Vegeta and Nappa didn’t have that weakness either. Let’s be honest though, when it comes to the latte...

Re: Freeza shouldn’t have been a transforming villain
I wouldn't mind if Freeza transformed from his first form right into his fourth. The second and third form were pretty useless. If Freeza just shed his armor and shell to go into his fourth form, I think that would be cool. I think doing that would completely ruin the impact of the fourth form. It ...

Re: Freeza shouldn’t have been a transforming villain
I like the simplicity of Freeza’s “final form.” I actually think it takes the unassuming nature even further than his initial form. I’d argue that his initial form still looks somewhat devious to a degree with the horns and the reptilian looking skin. His true form makes him look more humanoid and a...

Re: The end of era: Sony discontinues the Funimation brand on April 2
From my experience, Pokémon and Yu-Gi-Oh tend to be viewed more as cheap merchandising vehicles than something that most self-respecting anime fans enjoy on their own terms. Same reason you don’t exactly see anime fans talk about the various Japanese Transformers cartoons.

Re: "Sparking! ZERO" Official Announcement & Pre-Release Discussion Thread
I’m no game programmer, but if the PS2 era games were able to include a split screen with seemingly little issue, I would’ve thought the ninth generation consoles would be able to do it too. Also, I probably said this back when the game was initially revealed, but I still think the idea of having DL...

Re: Could this be the reason they don't continue DB Super series yet?
I’m a bit late to the discussion, but on the subject of filler in Dragon Ball, I’d say most of the Freeza arc filler is pretty bad and only serves to make a long drawn out story feel even more tedious, but I do have a soft spot for that whole thing with the alien orphans. That was a nice way of sett...
