Infinite World did have fully rendered cutscenes, although they were few and far between, so even then, it’s not quite as ambitious as the first Budokai game.
UT also had those 2D animated cutscenes, if that counts.

“Groundbreaking” is not one of the words I would use to describe DBS.

Re: The reason Goku stayed dead that no one talks about
I don’t know if it’s really fair to blame Goku for Vegeta throwing a hissy fit. None of the characters in the story even blame him for that. Goku has no control over Vegeta being a spoiled brat with a fragile ego. In terms of allowing his fight with Vegeta to drag on, even if we ignore the fact that...

Re: Dragon Ball Daima (2024)
Fall 2024 is still a while away. I’m assuming it won’t premiere until October at the earliest, so it’s not like there’s a rush for Toei to reveal more information.

Re: SS3 Vegeta
I always found it peculiar when the implication is made that Vegeta was never able to achieve SSJ3 at some point. SSJB made it completely obsolete, does anyone genuinely think he couldn't do it if he chose to? He's obviously leagues beyond where Goku was when he transformed into SSJ3. It’s been the...

Re: unpopular opinion: kenji yammoto should have never got fired
The basic impression I’m getting is that that entertainment industries in Japan seem to have rather skewed priorities (from a Western perspective) when it comes to what is considered an unforgivable/fireable offense. If an artist has abhorrent views or commits a serious sex crime, it will often be b...

Re: Funimation Release Doesn't Include DB OP2 & END 2-4
If that animation with Goku and the others in dresses had been done today, especially by a Western company, there would’ve been a bunch of outrage from Internet grifters. Gods forbid if they ever saw episode 5 of Dragon Ball, or its thematic remake in GT. They seem to have a recency bias when it co...

Re: "Sparking! ZERO" Official Announcement & Pre-Release Discussion Thread
I suppose splitting Goku and Vegeta into their DBS eras was more or less unavoidable, given all the new forms they’ve had, but did they really need to split Cell arc and Boo arc Vegeta into separate characters again? The Raging Blast games had already done away with that, and that was two console ge...

Re: Dragon Ball Daima (2024)
As far as I can see, there is no evidence that Daima doesn't fall within the Super timeline. The absence of Beerus and Whis isn't evidence. Regardless, Daima is still a product of the Revival/Modern era, therefore it will share story beats with Super. I don't see this series having anything in comm...

Re: Funimation Release Doesn't Include DB OP2 & END 2-4
I assumed it was because Toei either didn’t provide FUNimation with the animation, or that the video quality was too poor, but hopefully someone more knowledgeable about how these things work can shed some light on it.

Re: Dragonball Evolution 15th Anniversary
I still resent it as being part of the trend of edgy live action adaptations that arbitrary change a ton of things (Roshi now has hair and no beard because fuck accuracy). I know it's because of the low budget and production team that, by their own admission, didn't really know or care about the fr...

Re: Dragonball Evolution 15th Anniversary
The movie came out at a period when I had become less interested in Dragon Ball in general, but I still recall being curious about it when I saw the trailer in December 2008. I even went to see it on opening day, where there were maybe a dozen or so people there in total. I never considered it a goo...

Re: Unpopular DB opinions
Goku being played by an Asian actor makes a lot more sense than him being played by a white actor. If there ever is another Hollywood adaptation of Dragon Ball, there would be no reason not to have Goku be Asian. Him being an alien is a weak counterargument, especially when that wasn’t even establis...

Re: The end of "Akira Toriyama canon"
I’ve been of the opinion since 2020 that the DBS anime would be better off not returning, and now that Toriyama is no longer with us, I think it’s about time to put the kibosh on DBS as a brand in general.

Re: Funi's Kai dub and accuracy
I'm mainly referencing the site's old review of Z Kai vol. 1 where Mike posed the question: (paraphrasing) 'why are some attack names proper Japanese nouns while's other's are changed to English translated equivalents?' I'm just wondering where we should draw the line as to what should be translate...

So Kenji Yamamoto got blacklisted for copying other people’s music, but people like Nobuhiro Watsuki were allowed to resume business as usual?

Re: Dragon Ball influences in Western products
Richard Linklater’s Boyhood shows DBZ playing on TV (the scene was filmed in 2002), and there’s other pieces of DBZ memorabilia in the protagonist’s room.
