Re: Why are the English dubisms far too ingrained into the fandom?

I don't have a problem reading subtitles, although I don't blame people who are not entirely comfortable with it and there are people with visual impairments who do genuinely struggle with it whom we should empatize with. There is thusly another good argument to be made for dubs as an accessibility ...

Re: Why are the English dubisms far too ingrained into the fandom?

To be fair to Kanzenshuu, the forum has SIGNIFICANTLY softened up to dubs and even Funimation dubs, the only hate is rightfully towards FuniCrunchyroll's awful home releases. It has, and I am grateful for that. I believe that has been thanks to the activity of yourself, 90sDBZ , other Ocean dub fan...

Re: Why are the English dubisms far too ingrained into the fandom?

Again stating the fact that something is different is not the same thing as deciding on someone's behalf whether or not they are a fan. In my discussions with Dragon Ball fans over the years I've said the former, but not the latter with my example of Funimation's dub of GT, Adamant has said both in ...

Re: Why are the English dubisms far too ingrained into the fandom?

I get that you don't like the argument he's making because it edges too close to "dub fans aren't real fans" for you. I personally think you're low-key putting words in his mouth there. Yes I think its flirting too much with belittling dub fans, and because I don't trust Adamant to be res...

Re: Crunchyroll is re-releasing the Dragon Ball Super Complete Series steelbook set

Just wanted to let everyone know that Crunchyroll is re-releasing the Dragon Ball Super Complete Steelbook Set on July 31 so if you missed your chance to get it, here's another one. I already bought a new set from eBay last year (after selling my original to get a sealed copy), but I think I'll dou...

Re: Why are the English dubisms far too ingrained into the fandom?

When it comes to the anime adaptation, the Japanese version is the source material. That's just a fact. The dub you enjoy watching is using footage that has a point of origin and acknowledging that isn't elitism. Your still missing my point Adamant said if Funimation renamed Dragon Ball would dub f...

Re: Why are the English dubisms far too ingrained into the fandom?

Because sub elitism and dub elitism are equally toxic and harmful to the anime community, but the former often gets a free pass here because said fans are fans of the original version of the anime. Neither is ideal though, I hate seeing some dub fans say "I can't stand Goku sounding like a gran...

Re: Why are the English dubisms far too ingrained into the fandom?

In fact I don't think we should deem anyone unworthy of respect whatsoever He didn't say "they like a heavily altered version of the show so they don't deserve respect" though. The argument is that those fans are simply fans of Funimation's version of the show. If they don't like the sour...

Re: Is Goku hitting his head a relevant detail for his character anymore?

I don't see why it wouldn't be, Goku being a bratty baby when Gohan was first taking care of him hasn't been retconned yet. The only significant change is that Goku being slightly older when he was sent to Earth, being sent with his saiyan armour, and for some reason Bardock had different plans than...

Re: Why are the English dubisms far too ingrained into the fandom?

Jesus dude, calm down. Is this a particularly sore point for you or something? No, I just have a disdain for sub elitism or snobbery of any sort (I don't talk to people about music as much as I used to for example, because frankly too many people are assholes over others liking what they like). I a...

Re: Why are the English dubisms far too ingrained into the fandom?

In any case I would strongly advise against telling anyone they are "not a Dragon Ball fan", its petty, juvenile, schoolyard bullying tactics that I think this forum should rise above. Are fans of Power Ranger "Super Sentai fans"? Are fans of Cardcaptors "Card Captor Sakura...

Re: Why are the English dubisms far too ingrained into the fandom?

The bigger question being asked, which is obviously more debatable is - can a Dragon Ball fan be a hardcore fan if their preference and default version of the show is their dub? To that end I would still say yes. Thought experiment, though: If Funimation or whoever had renamed the dub something els...

Re: Do you think Dragon Ball Super exaggerated the post-production effects?

On a bad animation day, sure, but obviously the same can be said for Dragon Ball Z. Yuya Takahashi was a solid all round, including the post production stuff. I'd say my only motivation for revisiting the Tournament of Power was his magnificent work. Look at the lighting effects here: https://i.imgu...

Re: Do Toei no longer license Z to broadcasters in favour of Kai?

I don't think TOEI has any prejudice against Kai, not internationally at any rate. They've probably realized some territories would prefer to have Z, whereas others will want Kai, and TOEI are probably more than happy they're able to offer both options. I believe that one of the reasons why some br...

Re: Why are the English dubisms far too ingrained into the fandom?

You mentioned that this even affects the "hardcore fandom"--can a dub fan not be a hardcore fan? Is there some kind of language standard for when you're considered a "hardcore" fan versus a casual fan? I think someone who collects video releases, manga, and video games of the se...

Re: Danish - the most unique European dub of Dragon Ball Z

If I recall correctly, our fellow German Kanzenshueer Timo had mentioned that when both RTL II and Andy Knote from ToyCo (a German music company known for recording German version of anime songs) were shown the Arianne opening, they didn't like it and they were offered to use the original Chala Hea...

Danish - the most unique European dub of Dragon Ball Z

So with the recent confirmation that when Dragon Ball Super comes to Denmark this autumn it will be indeed getting a Danish dub I thought it would be fun to look back at the Danish dub of Dragon Ball Z, which I must say is the most unique of all the show's European dubs. Why is it unique? Rock the D...

Re: Upcoming Danish Dragon Ball Super Dub confirmed

Fantastic news, there hasn't been a Danish dub of anything since Dragon Ball Z's 2002-2005 run on DR1.

Hopefully as many fans as possible can support this so this Danish dub of Super can be completed and more Scandinavian dubs can come in the future.
