Re: "Dragon Ball Super (Manga)" Official Discussion Thread
In light of Akira Toriyama's untimely passing, my continued readership of Super, at this point, is going one of two ways: 1. If Toriyama was actively working with Toyotaro on a future story arc for the past couple of years and much of the plot outline is already finished, it's certainly posthumous ...

Re: Dragon Ball Super: Manga Chapter 102 - Official Discussion Thread
Ok so I’m really going to need some help here… I’ve recently been watching some old DBZ movies and Super Hero recently.. So Beast Gohan is in the same league as Perfect UI Goku which also Ultra Ego Vegeta is in and Black Frieza is above all that and I guess Orange Piccolo sits below all of this.. Be...

Re: Dragon Ball Daima (2024)
I just realized this, if Goten and Trunks are behaving like babies, just imagine how dumb they are going to make Goku in Dragon Ball Daima. DBS anime Goku is incredibly dumb and annoying, imagine if they make Goku worse in Dragon Ball Daima. We know Toei will go to any length, just to make Goku dum...

Re: Dragon Ball Daima (2024)
Would we really consider them "strict"? From what I've read, they weren't strict as much as he valued their input. Right, I think the fact that Toriyama was willing to listen to Torishima's input about the Artificial Humans even when he was no longer his current editor shows he respected ...

Re: What is the lamest thing to come out of modern DBZ?
To frame this more succinctly there is a faction of the fandom which truly believes: Toriyama = Good content. Non-Toriyama = bad content I fail to see how this is a problem. All things being equal, deferring to the creator is the least worrisome standard anyone can have as far as fiction goes. How ...

Re: Dragon Ball Daima (2024)
That's not really true though, is it? Dragon Ball thrived during its original run by doing what the masses wanted. The Journey to the West parody adventure story the manga started as was very unpopular, so they shifted fighting story more influenced by the very popular Fist of the North Star. Focus...

Re: What is the lamest thing to come out of modern DBZ?
What is this referring to? Anyone who still holds on to “canon” as some measure of quality. I'm still not getting it. how does the issue of canon have to do with expectations being subverted since 1984? Because it goes along with the creation myth of Toriyama’s boundless genius. Essential if it’s f...

Re: Dragon Ball Daima (2024)
All the attempts to peer into a creative process that we have no true concrete visibility into is cracking me up.
Like why does it even matter who or how the story was conceived or written at this point?

Re: Is Post EoZ Content "Forbidden" Because of GT &/or EoZ serving as Toriyama's official epilogue?
I thought it was widely known that GT is non canon/side story/different timeline? Also with Super creating a bunch of inconsistencies I was also under the assumption that the EoZ was going to be retconned. DB as a whole is super inconsistent (no pun intended) So I assumed there was always different...

Re: Is Post EoZ Content "Forbidden" Because of GT &/or EoZ serving as Toriyama's official epilogue?
I’m still banking on them undoing all of Super completely. It just makes the most sense story wise really. Like the excitement for Uub doesn’t make a whole lot of sense after the gangs progression and they’re long past the point where power progression is even in-universe believable anymore. Also th...

Re: Are you done with Dragon Ball?
The Franchise and I are currently going through a period of separation. So far it’s working for both of us. Everything now and then I may hear about something going on and I check it out and so far the news has been disappointing. I’m just waiting for the day where I hear about some new interesting ...

Re: I just watched the ending of GT (Japanese version) and it was one of the most depressing things I’ve ever seen
Considering GT doesn't altogether fit DB's aesthetic, an ending that doesn't fit Toriyama's world, but fits GT works fine. We've already got the whole "the story may continue" ending with the manga, so a more conclusive ending works here. It's sad but in the same way any ending is sad. Ev...

Re: Has your opinion on any Dragon Ball media changed over the years?
Interestingly Super has actually make me start to dislike the older media. Not in and of itself. In a Bubble I would just ignore it entirely. However any attempts to engage with the fandom devolve into the below arguments: Toei is the problem Toyotaro is the problem Toriyama is the problem It’s caus...

Re: Why is Toei so obsessed in making Goku dumb in DBS and DBS movies
Comedy doesn't work when the comedy is just retcons and contradictions. Does this situation count as a "Tori forgot" or "Tori don't care"? It’s both, I’m so glad people are finally coming around to Toriyama being fallible as a writer. That’s not to say he hasn’t done great work,...

Re: Dragon Ball Super: Manga Chapter 87 - Official Discussion Thread
Freeza realized that being a social media influencer was a thousand times more difficult than conquering the universe and switched over to playing that game instead. Now he just beats up Gokuu and Vegeta for fun. I would actually like Frieza to hold up a cellphone in one hand while he takes out Gok...

Re: Official On-Going Dragon Ball Super Movie #2 Thread: "Super Hero"
Frankly, I think keeping up with all these new transformations is a pain. Super Saiyan God was a neat idea at the time, but I’m not a fan of the precedent that it set. At best, this obsession with giving characters flashy makeovers makes Dragon Ball feel like a toy commercial, which I suppose isn’t...

Re: Official On-Going Dragon Ball Super Movie #2 Thread: "Super Hero"
I'm torn on Gohan's Beast transformation. I don't like that we had a fairly creatively bankrupt design that was fawned over by production staff. I like the concept, absolutely. The idea that Gohan is actually tapping into some Beast-rage that he exhibited as a kid is a great idea. It basically just...

Re: Official On-Going Dragon Ball Super Movie #2 Thread: "Super Hero"
The movie was produced in a cooperative effort between Toriyama and his editors. Just because someone (Iyoku) suggested something, doesn't make it any less valid when the script went back and forth between all parties for two years. The previous movie, Broly, also happened because it was suggested ...
