Re: The All-Purpose "Translation Request" Thread
This might be an unusual request, but - for my master's degree, I need to write a 6K word extended essay, and my topic is the "Hero's Journey" monomyth and the ways it appears in DragonBall. Is there a place I might find the fully translated publishing details of the daizenshuu? I need the...

Re: Everything in DB was predetermined - a good idea?
I think to a degree, Beerus kind of does this. He starts the domino effect that ultimately leads to him battling Goku by ordering Freeza to blow up Planet Vegeta. Without that...I don't think Dragon Ball would have played out the way it did. So in a way the show has already kinda completed that mis...

Re: If you wrote Dragon Ball...
In response to a certain attitude expressed in this thread: of course, DB/Z/S/GT (and Star Wars , and LotR, and any other property) is the work of its creator, I love it for what it is, and if someone ever gave me the money/power to actually change it, I would not. That said - I don't see any harm i...

I'd like to see the tails come back. Maybe not on Goku, but on Vegeta, Gohan, and the kids.

Re: Unpopular DB opinions
- We Gotta Power > Cha-La Head Cha-La - The Faulconer score, while flawed, had many virtues and could at times be more effective than the original soundtrack. - I don't think the idea that Gohan should have stayed the hero of the Buu Saga is unpopular, but I wonder about this notion: Goku should nev...

Re: Xenoverse 2 Wishlist
- More to do on story missions than just fighting. - Honestly? I'd rather the second game be all about exploring "What-Ifs" splintered off from the main timeline, both serious (what if Raditz took Gohan and left Earth? What if Goku crashed somewhere en route to Namek? What if Vegeta went v...

Re: Was Kai Necessary
Seeing how Funi rerecorded parts of their original dub anyway, Kai was arguably unnecessary even in the US - a full new dub of the original could have been commissioned. I'm glad it had a hand in re-energizing the series, but I don't feel on balance that Kai had a lot to offer. Having multiple anima...

Re: Which characters/scenes had "more to it" in Dubs?
Can't think of a specific example off the top of my head, but: a strict translation from Japanese sometimes makes for awkward English, and in comparing the original Funi dub to "Kai" or the manga, every now and again I'll find something that benefited from a looser approach to the transla...

Re: Gohan's lack of Mystic form explained?
That bit from the DB Wikia is, go figure, not entirely accurate and drawing unnecessary conclusions, at least the way you've worded it. The old direct translation from Kanzentai says: "In order to defeat Majin Buu, he had his dormant power drawn out by the Elder Kaioshin. Even without becoming...

Re: Gohan's lack of Mystic form explained?
If this translation from the DB Wiki is accurate: Daizenshuu 2 states that Gohan's dormant power is bottomless. Daizenshuu 2 also states that after his potential was released, Gohan is still capable of becoming a Super Saiyan, but even without utilizing the form he surpasses Super Saiyan 3 Gotenks i...

I have pretty much the same opinion of both films: I really like the stuff that happens before Broly shows up. Once he does, it's all downhill from there.

Re: Gohan's Development
Disclaimer: Gohan is my favourite character. I would agree with the OP in the sense that I wasn't disappointed with Gohan's lack of training...in the Buu saga. That Gohan doesn't enjoy fighting/training for its own sake, unlike his father (and brother...and all the other saiyans we meet) is one of t...

Re: Thoughts on Great Saiyaman
I think Great Saiyaman is entertaining in the right dosage. And it seems to make sense for Gohan; a bookish kid raised up in the mountains wouldn't be the coolest cat in town, at least not when he's intentionally trying to be. I dunno that I would have wanted much more of him than they ended up doin...

Re: Worst Dragon Ball Saga?
Never watched GT (mostly because sites like this scared me off it), and if I'm being honest, I've only seen about half of DB (doing my best to catch up though). I was one of those kids who grew up with Z on Toonami, and only really knew that. When it comes to Z - the Buu saga is actually my favorite...

Both Saiyan God forms were unimpressive to me (skinny Kaioken, or standard SS in blue? Reeeeeeeeal original), but Abo and Kado were just shapeless blobs IMO.

Re: Explain to me how Beerus is original or a good character
Going off of BoG alone, as I've yet to see more than a few clips of "Super..." I find Beerus well-designed, charming, and entertaining as a character. And those last two things are part of my biggest problem with him: he doesn't really feel that threatening. Even when it looked like he was...
