Re: Why doesn't the series appeal as an adventure series?
I don't think it's JUST because American audiences got used to Z and didn't like the OG because it wasn't as "dark" and "violent". Certainly there is some of that, coupled with early 00s angst, but if you look at Avatar: TLA, that's essentially just a more western Dragon Ball, an...

Re: Unpopular DB opinions
I hate DBZ: Abridged. I've never found it funny, I think TeamFourStar are sellouts, and I especially don't like the moments where it tries to be a legitimate dub and get "real". Like, make up your mind: are you a parody or not? Fans who consider it a superior product to DBZ with deeper cha...

Re: Dragon Ball Z Recut (Japanese version) Finished
I'm literally asking the nicest possible way I can think of, but ok. Let me put it another way. I understand the OP is not a professional video editor, like he said. Considering IAmTheMilkMan's project is on indefinite hiatus, this is the best we've got, so I am appreciative of the OP's effort, but ...

Re: Dragon Ball Z Recut (Japanese version) Finished
I'm looking at this and it looks like you've cut this down to...257 episodes? That's not a lot considering Kai is 167 and that still includes a ton of filler. Surely that can't be right, so am I missing something here?

I'd like to report an error in the subtitles for episode 53. At 17:23, Tien's line isn't translated. The subtitle is missing.

Are you going to put the insert songs back into the dubbed audio? IIRC they didn't replace the music with anything else in the dub, they just left it silent, so it should be easy.

You did say you were going to insert Kai's dub into the Z recut right? That's what I'm looking forward to more than anything.

Re: Does DBZ's OST Feel Lackluster at Times?
The biggest problem that Yamamoto and Sumitomo have is that they want to score Z like it's Power Rangers. They see Z as a juvenile show for children with bright colors, energy beams and silly puns. And while that's sort of true, they forget that Z also has a story with character development, and mo...

Re: Pun? or translation error?
A juku school is a Japanese weekend cram school. Since it's a uniquely Japanese concept, Simmons left the term untranslated. That would be one his earlier translations though, too, so who knows if he'd stand by that choice now. I've defended Simmons in the past but this is ridiculous. NO ONE is goi...

Re: Dragon Ball Recut [COMPLETE], Dragon Ball Z Kai Recut [WORK IN PROGRESS], Dragon Ball Z Recut [WORK IN PROGRESS]
Could you consider adding this awesome English version of OP 1 to the dubbed version of Z Recut? No, I'm sticking with the Japanese version. I considered using an English version, but I've never heard one that I was happy with. This one is pretty decent, but I wish it were just a little more profes...

Re: Does DBZ's OST Feel Lackluster at Times?
Calm. The. Motherfucking. Hell. Down. You're the one who started drama. Not me. In what plane of reality could I, at this stage in life, even POSSIBLY begin to care about being seen (by random internet strangers no less) as "the guy who gets DB better than other people"? That's a level of...

Elitist? Not in the least. Uh, let me point to his post again. There's a metric FUCKTON of blatant misconceptions and incorrect assertions, such as the main topic of this thread, that all stem primarily from not only general ignorance/inexperience with Wuxia, but also from the perspective that almo...

Re: Does DBZ's OST Feel Lackluster at Times?
Most of these misconceptions could easily be corrected if more people just hunkered down and actually WATCHED some more of the actual genre material that all of these seemingly disparate components of Dragon Ball actually stem from and fit into. Part of the reason I love Dragon Ball is because I do...

Re: The All-Purpose "Translation Request" Thread
What, did you want me to rip my blu-rays, search for the specific episode, then take a screenshot? That's generally what I do. Well, that's you. I'm not going to go to such unnecessarily extensive lengths just to ask a question. But if you think I should have, and that constitutes a ban or somethin...

Re: The All-Purpose "Translation Request" Thread
Not exactly a translation request, but to anyone who's fluent in Japanese culture, what is the context behind what Gohan says here? Is he just trying to annoy Piccolo, or what? Even Kai's dub didn't know what to do with this.
