Re: Selecta Visión Dragon Ball Z Blu-ray
Thanks for sharing! I can see some actual film grain left in. Glad to hear it's not all filtered and smoothed within an inch of its life like the FUNi 30th Anniversary transfer.

Re: Akira Toriyama Passes Away.
I have a lot that I'm still reflecting on, thinking about, trying to form, etc. It's going to take a while. There's so much of a direct impact and literal direction on my life that it's impossible to really put into words, I think. I haven't said much here, mostly because of that, and because I've ...

Re: Akira Toriyama Passes Away.
I'm thankful for Toriyama and Dragon Ball for helping motivate me to continue art (both as a hobby and career choice) through the years. I'm thankful to him and Dragon Ball bringing so many of us together. Thanks to him, I ended up meeting you lovely people. This is still is the only online communit...

Re: For its 10th anniversary, Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods is returning to movie theaters in USA
Nice! Ten years later, and it's still one of my favorite Dragon Ball films. Unfortunately, I won't be going to this since it's only the English dub being screened. I was hoping the distributors would be more open to screening Dragon Ball content in Japanese with subtitles. Crunchyroll did it for Sup...

Re: Kai coming to Hulu on July 1, 2023
Things I noticed: - The audio in the opening and NEP in Episode 1 sound kinda funky, like something went wrong while re-editing/re-encoding the episode for streaming. And the episode is indeed slightly re-edited; they corrected the opening in Episode 1 using the Japanese logo (Dragon Ball Kai witho...

Re: Thoughts about international versions and the changes it made?
I will say that I prefer most of the US names for the Z movies/TV specials. Not exactly a hot take, I know. They're more concise and clear. Except for "Wrath of the Dragon"; which was actually more vague than the Japanese title. Is the Dragon Fist attack the "Wrath of the Dragon"...

Re: AB Video to release OG Dragon Ball on Blu-Ray
Looks (and sounds) great! The original broadcast audio is something many of us have wanted on an official release for years.
Now let's @Crunchyroll about releasing this transfer in English-speaking territories. Gimme gimme gimme.

Re: Crunchyroll re-releasing Dragon Ball GT on DVD in February 2023
I saw WTK post the listing on Twitter.
Best case scenario: This'll use the either the singles or Dragon Box transfer.
Most likely scenario: These are the same Season Set discs re-packaged.
What a missed opportunity to put this and original Dragon Ball on Blu-Ray (or even SD-BD.)

Re: your definition of the "definitive" DBZ home release
At this point, I'd just be fine with the Dragon Box footage available for purchase in English-speaking territories again. Preferably with some color-correction, and on Blu-Ray or even SD-on-Blu-Ray since either way there would be way less compression. I'd love for the Japanese Broadcast audio to be ...

Re: Selecta Visión Dragon Ball Z Blu-ray
I just watched through that comparison video a couple times. And I think it looks okay. Just fine, nothing mind-blowing. (shrug) ... I'd much prefer FUNimation use this footage instead. To me, the backgrounds still suffer from being slightly flatter, but to no where near the degree that the 30th Ann...

Very sad. I'm feeling for his family and loved ones right now. I remember hearing that he was going through health issues which forced him to retire, but I'm glad he was able to live a good quality of life and make it all the way to a very distinguished 90 years old, which most people don't ever mak...

Re: Walmart Exclusive Dragon Ball Z Bluray sets
Wow, those are actually cheaper than I expected. Less than $12 a season.
Guess they're really banking on the ultra-casual crowd jumping on these and replacing the 16:9 Blu-Rays as the new default release.

Re: Should Dragon Ball Have Stopped After Cell?
Should Dragon Ball have stopped after Cell? I don't think so. The series, the fandom, and the franchise are better off with the Buu arc than without it. Sure, it has a lot of problems, mainly with structure and pacing, but the added world-building, character development for Vegeta & Mr. Satan an...

Re: Dragon Ball Manga Deluxe Edition
The problem with Dragon Ball is that it's been re-released so many times in English compared to other manga. Viz more-or-less rivals FUNimation in their number of DB releases: single issues (aka "monthlies") Viz SJ graphic novels VizBigs 3-in-1s Full Color Digital purchases/streaming The c...

Re: 30th Anniversary sets or Dragon Boxes?
These just aren't that much of an improvement from the Season Blu-Rays, in my opinion. They're very similar color and audio-wise, but in 4:3. The only extra perk is the aspect ratio. I'd recommend to just wait on a sale or some kind of markdown if you're curious to check out these steelbooks. At lea...

Speaking of video quality, and I might be super duper late to the party on this ... but has anyone else noticed that when selecting the Japanese audio for Dragon Ball Z on the official FUNimation app/site, it switches to the Dragon Box masters but with softsubs? Not just for select seasons but for t...

Re: Will we ever get a good home release of Dragon Ball Z in the States ever again?
I think if we ever get another one, it'll be because Toei decides to do their own remaster. That said, a lot of their 80s/90s shows released in HD formats are also upscales (Sailor Moon, Saint Seiya), so there's a high chance of that happening too. Yes, I'm aware that the movies have a new To...

Re: GT vs Super
For all of it's flaws, I enjoyed Super a lot more than GT. It still has that "Toriyama-voice" to it even with multiple writers working on it. GT has plenty of great things going for it though; but IMO, they peaked during the Bebi arc. Super has felt like it's been improving with each arc. ...

Re: Should Dragon Ball Super get a reboot or continue?
Now that the Super manga has blossomed into its own ongoing thing and not just a marketing vehicle for the anime, I feel like they're just going to stay the course that most other shonen franchises take: 1) the manga will continue 2) the (eventual) return of the anime will adapt the manga arcs. The ...
