Re: Former 'Dragon Ball Z' Composer Nathan Johnson Elected to Texas State Senate

I don’t live in Texas was having worked on DBZ part of his campaign? Even with as popular American DBZ is with millenials I can’t imagine too many of them saw his name and instantly associate it with DBZ and not just because he has a name as basic white guy as Nathan Johnson

Re: Funimation Re-dubbing

There’s not going to be any consistency. Either you get the entire cast change between episode 53/67 and 54/68 or you have Schemmel suddenly giving a terrible performance. I respect the original in-house broadcast more because it was a bunch of people who had no clue what they were doing patheticall...

It’s not the recap part as much as the whole introducting Goku immediately as an alien in Kai.

Re: This series has held up so good to me.

going from DB to Z to GT than DB to Kai to Super, particularly subbed. :) Kai is best watched in isolation with Super as a follow up I think. It just doesn’t work as a sequel to Dragon Ball because its attitude is straight up “This Goku kid is an alien here’s a quick recap of his early adventures “...

Re: Funimation Re-dubbing

Sabat stopped doing a Drummond impression which helped his acting considerably. If I recall, Sean said something about not wanting to overwrite his history, hence why he didn't redub his season 3 performance. He wanted to leave it as a record of where he started and how far he's come. I don't know ...

Re: Why hire an old lady when you can get a dude?

If not for Toriyama's (again, understandable given the circumstances that went on behind the scenes) reaction and the revival that it helped directly lead to, none of us would still be talking about or mentioning DBE in conversations like this, much less even recalling that it ever happened much of...

Re: Why hire an old lady when you can get a dude?

I just appreciate that I made a pretty mild comment about Dragon Ball Evolution leaving a bad taste in fan’s mouths and he flips his lid. Like, I didn’t even make a rant about it

Re: Why hire an old lady when you can get a dude?

Personally I thought Battle of the Gods was a nice little surprise. Some mouth wash to wash out the bad taste of DBE. Then it kept going and going. Dragon Ball Z the most popular entity of the Dragon Ball franchise had 291 episodes and 13 movies prior to the revival. That was plenty of material. It...

Re: Why hire an old lady when you can get a dude?

I feel like they could always...just stop making new Dragon Ball stuff. We wouldn’t even have the new stuff if not for Dragon Ball Evolution being a thing that exist apprently

Re: Name adaptations

As we know, Toriyama likes to give punny names to all his characters. Sometimes these puns don't really translate across culture and language barriers. In cases like this, do you think that the localization dub should leave the name as-is, or change it in order to fit the spirit rather than the let...

Re: Why hire an old lady when you can get a dude?

More authentic and real sounding than casting an adult male to do a young boy voice? Yes As authentic and real as casting an actual young boy? Of course not. But as far as I understand it the production schedule of a weekly broadcast anime doesn’t allow time for child voice actors in series regular ...

Re: Why hire an old lady when you can get a dude?

I can’t speak for others, but I personally have never been particularly fond of the practice of getting women to voice male characters, not for some silly notion of masculinity, but because it often strikes me as somewhat phony and lazy. Don’t get me wrong, I think Masako Nozawa is great as Goku, b...

Re: Unpopular DB opinions

SSJ3 is a hideous transformation. It looks ridiculous and reminds me more of Rapunzel than a Dragon Ball character. Is that an unpopular opinion? I agree of course. I’ll take it further and say every level after Super Saiyajin was unnecessary and stupid bordering on self-parody if it wasn’t played ...

Re: Who are the best written couple in DB?

If you think Vegeta & Bulma are only popular because they are individually popular characters then yes you don’t understand why this is a popular pairing. I guess I don’t understand why its a popular couple for any reason other than Vegeta is a popular character and Bulma is a female character ...

Re: Who are the best written couple in DB?

Him wanting to get married and seeing 18 as a potential partner is fine, how it happened and him risking everyone's lives by destroying the remote control is the problem. Of course its a problem just like Goku letting Vegeta go after he killed all their friends (at a time if I recall correctly they...

Re: Who are the best written couple in DB?

Isn’t wanting to get married Kuririn’s thing in around DBZ? Is it really that out of character for him to not want to kill or harm someone he saw as a potential partner? Of course its silly for him to be that gone on 18 from one kiss on the cheek Just like it was silly for Chi Chi to think she had t...
