It'd probably be fun as a parody like little saiyalings, but I doubt you get much mileage out of it. Half the fun of Dragonball is going around the world beating dudes up and going on adventures and shit.

If we're talking oddball characters I think any character from one of Toriyama's one shots would be cool. Or Arale, she shows up every now and then anyway.

The Complete Illustrations is definitely worth a buy if you're into Toriyama's art, Only thing is there isn't that much in there that you can't get in the Artbook that Viz translated apart from some recent stuff he drew like Dragon Box illustrations and Kanzeban covers I think. We never got an official English release of the Kanzeban from VIZ to my knowledge. We got the single GNs(more or less the same as the Tankobans) and VizBigs(which are kinda like the Kanzebans but not including all the color pages or cover designs).
