Re: Dragon Ball 2024 40th Anniversary Predictions
TOEI promoted Funimation's 30th anniversary collection Blu-Ray on Twitter, but I don't think they did any more than that. If I remember correctly I think Funimation described it as a collaboration between the two, with both Toei of America and Funimation advertising the Blu-ray set, but I don't thi...

Re: Toei is throwing uncut and improved dubs at every OLD franchise of theirs (Would you like some for Dragon Ball?)
I personally don't see much of a point in doing that. I don't think that there's a significant market for it. The best case scenario for this would be Ocean Kai since it's already finished, but Toei has no interest in releasing it. Also it wouldn't be the clean sweep dub which you presented for this...

Re: Dragon Ball 2024 40th Anniversary Predictions
Considering that it's Toei I imagine that they'll do something big to celebrate, and they'll most likely screw it up somehow. Why do you thinks they'll do something big? Because that'll make us more angry when they screw it up. Kinda like that 30th anniversary Blu-ray of Z. (Which was technically a...

Re: Toei's fixation on Goku being the strongest
The Kid Buu thing definitely bothered me because there's no reason to think that's the most powerful Buu. Goku wouldn't even consider fighting Buuhan or Buutenks on his own without trying to fuse but was willing to fight Kid Buu one on one. I'm pretty sure, in the manga at least, when Super Buu sho...

Re: Your opinion on how Toei worked on Dragon Ball Anime
I don't think that there's enough anime-original content in Dragon Ball (1986) or Dragon Ball Z to properly allow for the episodes that do adapt comic storylines to really flow well. We see this issue later in Dragon Ball Super , where instead of doing episodes with plots based on original ideas, t...

Re: For its 10th anniversary, Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods is returning to movie theaters in USA
I know that it's only a 2 day thing, but if there's no sub showings then that's a fat no for me. I saw the dub screening back in 2014, and I'd rather see it subbed if I'm going to pay to see it in theaters again.

Re: OG Z vs Kai - Subtitled Version
It's not the worst way to watch it, but it's not the best way to watch it either. I guess if you really need the extra time it saves then watch Kai 1.0 in Japanese. Kai 2.0 (Boo saga) just isn't worth watching in any form.

Re: What is the secret to the series' longevity?
I think that it's a regurgitating effect. Prior generations of fans are introducing the work to the current generation, and as a result the series has continued. I don't know how much longer that will last, unless Dragon Ball changes, because the world and art surrounding Dragon Ball are always cha...

Re: What is your Dragon Ball fandom timeline?
I was part of the second wave of U.S. fans who got introduced to it through the TV Kai dub. I was 10 years old, the perfect age to discover the series, and from there I began to constantly read about the series online, find clips on youtube, whatever I could get my hands on. I didn't watch one consi...

Re: What is the secret to the series' longevity?
but I do think especially the original Z anime hasn't aged well due to it's pacing issues. I disagree. I don't enjoy Kai because of it's music placement issues + the green tint in Buu Saga (and The Final Chapters feeling like a different product altogether). And generally I'm against censorship and...

Re: DBS Anime Future
Toei are not capable of coming up with anything good when it comes to writing. I completely disagree. Toei pulled off all the important/major DBS moments relatively well. Compare UI Goku's anime debut against Jiren to his manga one. They had the same outline from Toriyama, and look how they absolut...

Re: What is the secret to the series' longevity?
I'll tell you what it is for me: nostalgia. It was the most popular thing at a time where I was a kid just happy on life. The mystique of it being Japanese and the US not getting a great representation complete with Stone Age internet made discussions about it fun. Some kids saw more of the Japanes...

Re: What is the secret to the series' longevity?
It's a matter of marketing. You propose, they buy, so you propose some more. There's no magical formula, or every company will just copy it. Simply speaking, Toriyama gave people what they wanted for longer than others mangaka did. You're not wrong, but I do think that Toriyama created something sp...

What is the secret to the series' longevity?
It's obvious that Dragon Ball is a franchise with long lasting appeal despite it ending quite a long time ago. (This forum's activity is proof of that.) So I want to know what do you think is the appeal of Dragon Ball? Why do people love this franchise so much that we keep coming back to it in some ...

Re: Toyotarou's Ideas Leave No Impact on Dragon Ball Super
I think a lot of these continuity bugs come up because of how loosely Super is written, and how Toriyama handles continuity when he's writing alone vs supervising. He only really seems to care about continuity when he's writing solo. Pan flying didn't appear in the manga and it was ignored in the mo...

Re: Observation on Mayumi Tanaka's Krillin
Tanaka in particular seems to get around a lot more in anime, and not only in One Piece either. Haven't heard Nozawa in many other places or contexts, for example. Not sure if that's got anything to do with it for sure, but it's probably something to think about too. Yeah I think this is the bigges...

Re: Observation on Mayumi Tanaka's Krillin
Serious question; is making negative or derogatory comments about Masako Nozawa’s performance or generally being put off by it still a thing? People on these forums seem to talk about it as if it’s still a common thing that English speaking fans do, but that’s genuinely not the impression I’ve gott...

Observation on Mayumi Tanaka's Krillin
It's common internet discourse for fans of the many foreign dubs of Dragon Ball to try the Japanese version as a curiosity and be put off by Masako Nozawa's voice portrayal of adult Goku. The reason for many being that the voice "doesn't fit a man" or "doesn't fit the body type"....
