Re: Akira Toriyama Passes Away.
Holy. Shit. This is almost unbelievable. The instant I saw it on Reddit, I knew I had to rush over here. Rest in peace, Toriyama-sensei. No matter how any of us may feel about his work, he poured his heart and soul into his stories for decades, and that level of sheer passion is worthy of respect. H...

Re: Dragon Ball Daima (2024)
Official Trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CYcrmsdZuyw Cool stuff! The trailer actually looks pretty neat now that we don't have that obnoxious TikTokker going "BOOOOOO! GIVE US THE STUPID MANGA STORY ARCS THAT NOBODY LIKES! BOOOOOOOO!" So far, my main complaint is that it looks a ...

Re: "Dragon Ball Daima" Announced for Fall 2024
YES!!!!!!!!!! IT WAS TRUE!!!!!!!!! THE MAGIC BEGINS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Or the "Daima", whatever. I don't see the trailer uploaded anywhere, but it already sounds highly intriguing: different from the leaks, but in a pretty interesting way. I don't think anyone was expecting Vegeta and...

Re: Overrated and Underrated voice actors
Most overrated: Chris Sabat. I don’t doubt he’s a swell guy, but I don’t think he has the vocal range to play SO MANY CHARACTERS. In a perfect world, he only would have been hired to play Yamcha. Most underrated: Pauline Newstone as Freeza. People tend to just lump her in with Linda Young, but I act...

Re: Remastered dub is beyond unwatchable to me
The Funi Z dub is fundamentaly broken whether you watch the original dub or the remastered dub it's just a poorly constructed inconsistent product due to poor foresight and lack of proper quality control from a nepo baby company. Even with the remastered dub being the better version....that's not s...

Re: Toei is throwing uncut and improved dubs at every OLD franchise of theirs (Would you like some for Dragon Ball?)
Hmm, that’s a hard one to answer. I mean, in a vacuum, I would prefer a more accurate dub, but various circumstances make it hard to recommend now. First of all, it’s very rare to see an uncut, complete dub of an anime get completely replaced, no matter how inaccurate it is. The only two examples I ...

Re: What would be the political stance of DB characters
I can’t believe people are STILL trying to cancel Bulma for what she said to General Blue. She made those comments DECADES ago, she was just a teen back then! I’m sure she’s improved as a person since! But seriously, I imagine most of the main protagonists are hardcore libertarians. Don’t get...

Re: What makes the handling Dragon Ball different from other franchises that failed to catch on worldwide?
Oh, I was mainly referring to the portion that addressed the belief that Toonami was almost solely instrumental in popularizing anime series in the US. I wasn’t saying that: like me and many others have said, adult-oriented VHS releases played a big part in priming the US market for the anime boom....

Re: What makes the handling Dragon Ball different from other franchises that failed to catch on worldwide?
Okay, I’ll concede that the Saban dub was a hit. I wasn’t very aware of the history surrounding that. But still, my basic point stands: even if the Dragon Ball dub was made for VHS, it would almost inevitably be broadcast on Cartoon Network, and it would almost inevitably be a hit. , and were later ...

Re: What makes the handling Dragon Ball different from other franchises that failed to catch on worldwide?
However, it (the Z series) was apparently a hit back in syndication even during the Saban-Ocean era, which was pre-Toonami. Not that it couldn't air on that network either uncut or without massive changes like the BGM or most things from syndication (see the Gundam series that ended up on there, na...

Re: What makes the handling Dragon Ball different from other franchises that failed to catch on worldwide?
Well, now that this thread has basically turned into another “was it good for Funi to get the DB license” thread, I guess I should offer my two cents. In my opinion, there’s a dichotomy being assumed with these replies that might not necessarily be true: “Either DB was butchered by Funi and became w...

Re: Dragon Ball: A Seed of Might Release
Hell yeah, it's finally done! Now when are you gonna be done with Z?
Seriously though, this is awesome! If I ever get a Blu-ray burner, the first thing I'm doing is transferring this beauty of a project to disc. I think I'll call it "Dragon Ball: The Eternal Edition".

Re: Non-thread-worthy discussions
I didn't expect to see a detailed discussion of modern multiverse blockbusters on a Dragon Ball forum of all places, but whatever, I'll indulge. Personally, I don't think the multiverse is inherently "lazy" or "overused", the concept has a lot of potential. The problem is that 90...

Re: Racism in the Dragon Ball fandom
I agree with most of the posters here, there's not much of a reason for this thread to exist. The Dragon Ball community has next to no visible racism that I'm aware of. In fact, I'd honestly say the community is incredibly racially diverse: DBZ is possibly the quintessential "black anime"...

Re: Dragon Ball and Libraries (And Librarians)
Banning books because of content is quite a different beast than a publisher making the decision to edit the material. I don't think too many people were against later editions of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory removing references to the Oompa Loomps being African pygmies for example. But a lot ...

Re: Aren't they worrying the original Seiyuu's not going to be with us forever?
The only interaction worth the time would be the main series cast seeing them and going "Yo what the fuck was that???" The property has no value, a damn near 0% approval rating, and most importantly, the creator despises it. Truth. The only way the Evolution cast is getting into any moder...

Re: Unpopular DB opinions
Yeah, I heard about the "complaining editors not liking any of the villains" story. It's honestly a miracle that the Android arc was even somewhat coherent with how much those two guys were breathing down Toriyama's neck. But we got Perfect Cell out of it, so who am I to complain?

Re: Unpopular DB opinions
Fair enough but it still doesn't answer why he didn't know. If she knew why would Trunks be shocked that events are different? Also, how is he getting back? Besides, this scene came AFTER he came back. I think Toriyama realized the logic gap and filled it in as best he could. So no, I don't think h...

Re: Unpopular DB opinions
If Bulma knew all this, why bother making a time machine to begin with since nothing Trunks did in the past would change her present. If she did know, why not tell Trunks? They literally answer this in the show, though. I went back to the scene in episode 139 where Trunks remembers his own timeline...
