Re: Akira Toriyama Passes Away.

Goddamn, this hit me like a truck of bricks. Legitimately was NOT prepared for this news tonight. We've lost an absolute legend, ladies and gentlemen. Toriyama, you'll be deeply missed by us all. From the bottom of my heart, thank you for creating so many great stories and characters that have broug...

Re: Do you like fusions?

Yeah, I like them. I like the combining of names, outfits, and (in the anime) voices. It's also funny that there's pretty much always a dominant personality, such that the fusion might as well be "Dominant Person [Other Person Absorbed]". Gotenks is pretty much just Trunks (Goten absorbed...

Re: Underrated dub contributions

#1 they made the tree of might into 3 episode with Neps and recaps the fact that they did that is impressive. Turning a 60 minute movie into three 20-minute episodes is not all that impressive, really. The movie itself was 61 minutes long almost precisely (that's including the opening and ending th...

Re: MistareFusion's Dragon Ball Dissection! (Updated 2/5/23!)

That said, I thought the tournament episode was cute, it managed to do the impossible: Make me care for Mr. Satan. Sooooo... his whole friendship character arc with innocent Majin Boo, going from trying to blow Boo up to later tearing up the "victory" picture, cooking for Boo out of the g...

Re: Non-thread-worthy discussions

And then you have the people who it's beyond obvious they've never seen any official credit material or even a proper, accurately sourced database that reflects the information therein. Which leads to misattribution after misattribution after misattribution... and it's not even exclusive to one sid...

Re: Non-thread-worthy discussions

Honestly I'd go as far as to argue that a lot of the people who say that have no idea what hard work is, and if they were in Toriyama's position they would regret ever criticizing him. Keyboard warriors always think they know better than anyone else because its a hell of a lot easier to trash someo...

Re: Non-thread-worthy discussions

[Oh yeah, I guess it would have been weird if the UUE dub had accurately translated scripts just to transition to the 99 dub shitfest in the middle of the conflict with the Ginyus. I mean, very soon after, they did a (partial) redub of the "season three"/"Captain Ginyu/Frieza sagas&q...

Re: Non-thread-worthy discussions

If you've seen the 2006 in-house dub Funimation did about 90 percent of that script was recycled from the syndicated dub some corny jokes and dialog censorship are removed and occasionally some additional dialog is added (example when Yamucha is using his Sokidan in the syndicated dub he says "...

Re: Non-thread-worthy discussions

Yep, it's Corlett in the TV version and Kelamis in the home version. Yep, the writing on the TV version was in line with all the other random stuff going on at the time. It was broadcast in the middle of syndication season two, so everything about its approach is exactly the same as the surrounding...

Re: Non-thread-worthy discussions

Oh man, yeah, the TV dub is wildly different from what came later with the home release re-dub! It would be nearly impossible to summarize it, since almost every single line is different. "Pick on someone your own altitude!" might be one of my favorite lines of all time...?! Icarus was in...

Re: Non-thread-worthy discussions

So out of mainly boredom from sitting around with nothing much to do on my day off, I had a thought... what are the differences between the full, original-length movie version of the FUNimation/Saban/Pioneer dub of DBZ movie 3 ("The Tree of Might" as they called it) and the 3-episode TV ve...

Re: Could this be the reason they don't continue DB Super series yet?

[ No matter how you put it, the pacing of the fight against Freeza is unjustifiably abysmal. Multiple YouTubers have shown it can easily be condensed into 3 episodes of 20 minutes each at worst , without sacrificing anything of importance. The original anime took thirty . With 30 episodes, any othe...

Re: Could this be the reason they don't continue DB Super series yet?

From everything I've read both here and elsewhere, evidence points almost irrefutably to the Moro and Granolah arcs being almost entirely conceived by Toyotarō. Literally in this thread people are posting quotes and sources stating the opposite so I'm requesting that you post quotes and links stati...

Re: Could this be the reason they don't continue DB Super series yet?

If all of this is true then if TOEI hates Toyo this much why do Toriyama consider him his successor? It'd be the best time to "build up" Toyotaro by TOEI as a successor whose work and stories counts and deserves to be animated since one day he will take the helm and be the new Toriyama. N...

Re: Could this be the reason they don't continue DB Super series yet?

Toriyama might have provided Toyotaro with an outline for the Granolah arc, but ultimately it's far more likely that the Granolah arc was Toyotaro's original idea, not Toriyama. Otherwise, there would be reason for the Toei not to adapt that arc, as Toei adapts every storyline Toriyama wants to tel...

Re: Could this be the reason they don't continue DB Super series yet?

It WAS different during the Super anime part 1. They simply did not have any material for a weekly show from a monthly manga.. now this problem is non-existent since they now have enough material for years, plus they can put the movie storylines into series too.. actually I think the manga followed...

Re: Could this be the reason they don't continue DB Super series yet?

TOEI's Dragon Ball Super ending itself was the "promise" it will continue.. These were the last words by the narrator: "The endless challenge to go beyond all limits continues." "When a new enemy appears.....Goku and his friends adventures begin again." "UNTIL THE...

Re: Could this be the reason they don't continue DB Super series yet?

Dragon Ball Super had an anime and that was in 2015. It is almost going to be 10 years, so maybe everybody should start to let go of it. Regardless of that the manga continues because at the end sueisha and toei animation are two different companies for two different media and they decide how to mi...

offhanded must mean something different to you. Offhanded means it's brought up once in one scene and then immediately gets forgotten about for fifty entire episodes, upon which it then becomes the main story... where a bunch of completely forgettable nobodies have a bunch of repetitive, boring, po...

Re: Could this be the reason they don't continue DB Super series yet?

We do know they won't succeed. Why watch? For fun. Counterpoint: A bunch of standalone stories is refreshing. And in Super, The Tournament of Power is the result of the God of Destruction tournament which happened as a result of Beerus waking up to fight Goku. Regardless. I like that arcs standalon...
