Re: Would a complete DBZ English redub be necessary?

Let's say Toei took away the US rights of Dragon Ball Z from Funimation and decided to give the US DBZ license to a superior anime dubbing company like Viz Media. If this ever happened, I, along with purist DBZ fans, want a complete DBZ English redub that is: [...] What do you guys think? It is nec...

Re: MistareFusion's Dragon Ball Dissection! (Updated 4/1/24!)

I wonder if MistareFusion will bring up how Krillin's relationship felt oddly strained throughout GT. Like, I know #18 and Marron occasionally come off as a bit difficult to please, but it REALLY felt as though those two had it out for Krillin in GT, and they just don't really give a crap about him...

Re: Dragon Ball Daima (2024)

Broly was made really interesting, why can't Shin work? Besides, there's a lot of potentially great black story coming from him m Well, it was a different case. Broly was a character created by Toei reworked into canon by Toriyama. Shin is a character created by Toriyama from the get-go that so far...

Re: Dragon Ball Daima (2024)

intrigues me more than the combination of Goku, Pan, and Trunks (and Giru) in GT. Not me, I'm of the opinion that Pan should have been the secondary MC of Daima. This was a good chance for her first adventure (since her brief Super Hero role was more of an action stunt) OFC if it happens after Buu ...

Re: The Original Movie 14.

Interesting, so if the Super Saiyan God statements are to be taken, the movie was still supposed to be set in the DBZ/Movies/GT canon.

Re: The end of "Akira Toriyama canon"

I'm not judging you for criticizing Super, I criticize the Manga all the time, but I do say that it is pointless to complain about Super milking the franchise. The franchise was already being milked in the 1990s with the yearly Toei movies which are a just reskin of "Goku fights strong guy, Go...

Re: The end of "Akira Toriyama canon"

Kale really isn't like either version of Broli, and I think that a lot folks tend to miss that, which does a disservice to her. Yeah, I actually give a shit about Kale I don't mean her personality, I mean her transformation/looks, which the staff itself has already admitted was based off Classic Br...

Re: The end of "Akira Toriyama canon"

He probably wanted to make those because the Editors told him that Dragon Ball was too popular to end at Namek saga. So how is it any different from Super? The very quote you posted above shows us that Toriyama ultimately chose not to leave Dragon Ball. I must say this: Despite our seemingly heated...

Re: The end of "Akira Toriyama canon"

Did we need the Cell and Buu saga? How they are not seen as "milking"? Actually, they were before 2013 (I can pull up the old threads criticizing these arcs). What changed that the Cell and Buu saga are no longer seen as shameless milking? We didn't, but the author wanted to make those. T...

Re: The end of "Akira Toriyama canon"

I absolutely believe Dragon Ball Super could easily be better, but I don't really much see a point to discussions like "it's existence isn't justifiable" because there's no putting that genie back in the bottle. I don't have to think about it—or any part of the franchise, for that matter....

Re: The end of "Akira Toriyama canon"

I mean, it's nebulous as to whether or not the original 1984 comic was 'necessary', but whatever. I think Dragon Ball Super 's contributions are important, although I don't think those contributions (female characters, queerness that is a bit more than just subtext) are going to be important to you...

Re: The end of "Akira Toriyama canon"

Yeah, quality was never the point, so they decided to end it on a high note in 2018 and we haven't had a new Anime series since then. So how Toei is milking the brand when we've only had 2 movies in the last 6 years? (both of which had heavy input from Toriyama, so they were not "milking"...

Re: The end of "Akira Toriyama canon"

How is Super milking the franchise? The Anime lasted 3 years and ended in 2018. Since then, we've only had two movies. Two movies in 6 years is really not a lot when you consider that DBZ was getting a new movie every year. We went almost 4 years (Broly movie-Super Hero movie) without any new anima...

Re: The end of "Akira Toriyama canon"

You even conceded that Toriyama "started writing whatever" for 2/4 of DBZ, so why would you expect Super to be any different? Because DBZ was written on a weekly crunch by a writer who was overworked and tired. BoG was not, neither were his plot points for what came after it in Super. The...

Re: The end of "Akira Toriyama canon"

Super has consistent and logical writing. Pretty much everything that happens in Super has a given reason. There are no "inexplicable plot holes" from Super. Even if a development seems completely random or sudden, the story provides some kind of reasoning for it. Also, Yes, it is an impo...

Re: The end of "Akira Toriyama canon"

What is wrong with "suspension of disbelief"? It's a common device that is required to consume any story. Do you not "suspend your disbelief" when you accept that there are magical flying lizards who can spit fire in Lord of the Rings or Game of Thrones? Are you not "suspen...

Re: The end of "Akira Toriyama canon"

I know some people here to take the side that Toriyama can do no wrong, but I've always believed that he absolutely can: Dragon Ball Minus is proof of this. I for one thought Beerus, Whis, Jaco, and the entire multiverse concept were already pushing my suspension of disbelief while watching Super. ...
