Re: The end of "Akira Toriyama canon"

So weird too because its clear Toriyama was interested in moving past Goku and ushering in a new generation, so many parts of the Cell and Buu arcs were dedicated to doing that. If Toriyama had stuck to Gohan as the new lead it would have been interesting to see if he would have wrote more material...

Re: The end of "Akira Toriyama canon"

Long dead and dormant classic manga/anime franchises have had revival runs before. Fist of the North Star, very famously, had a pretty huge revival run (comparable in terms of content scale to what Dragon Ball is currently undergoing) back in the mid-2000s (flush in the middle of Dragon Ball's dead...

Re: Dragon Ball Daima (2024)

I also don't see why some people need blood and gore to enjoy a Dragon Ball series. TBF: I think the censoring robs some of the fights of their intensity. Like, I’ve always hated how every recreation of the “Full Nelson!” sacrifice censors Piccolo’s attack going through Goku. And I do think it does...

Re: Dragon Ball Daima (2024)

Also because people would keep surviving impalement in that arc, I miss when injuries were taken very seriously in the series. Like Goku getting his bones crushed against Vegeta To be fair, people surviving impalement has already happened in Cell arc. I've remember Yancha survived Dr. Gero impaling...

Re: Dragon Ball Daima (2024)

TBF: I think the censoring robs some of the fights of their intensity. Agreed. I honestly found it a bit distracting that Goku Black kept impaling people with not a drop of blood in sight. It makes the fighting feel too...sanitized. Too clean. It also just looks weird. Like, when people get stabbed...

Re: The end of "Akira Toriyama canon"

Do you really think dbz was akira 100%? lol dragonball is as close to what akira wanted as it gets. dbz is riding the success wave with quite some input from other people. he never wanted to make going from comdeci to serious and even sad stuff. but it simply made money like crazy so you ride it an...

Re: The end of "Akira Toriyama canon"

Toriyama Dragon Ball ended in 1996 in the Boo arc. Everything following hasn't been 100% his own work anymore. I don't see what may follow as any different. Toriyama probably left behind a ton of scrapped designs and story ideas - if not in writing, then in conversation with Toyotaro and others. Th...

Re: The end of "Akira Toriyama canon"

I don’t have a problem with tournaments in DB, some of the best DB content is from the original world martial arts tournaments. That said, if the TOP is a template for how the writers are going to approach tournament arcs then i can certainly understand not wanting to see another one. The ones in th...

Re: The end of "Akira Toriyama canon"

Dragon Ball Super was never about adventure. Goku doesn't care about adventure in BoG, he cares about fighting the Lord of Destruction. Goku doesn't care about adventure at the end of BoG, he cares about challenging himself to new heights and reaching the level of Destruction. Sidelining the ever-m...

Re: The end of "Akira Toriyama canon"

The 2010s represent such a massive shake-up for the Dragon Ball franchise and world. The reveal of the Gods of Destruction and Angels? Massive shake-up. The reveal that there are 11 other Universes, with even greater Gods and mortals? Massive shake-up. The reveal that there is a Deity even greater ...

Re: The end of "Akira Toriyama canon"

At best you can say "the original manga as published in weekly Shonen Jump from 1984 to 1995", but after that it's really not so clear cut. That's where I'm at. The 1984-1995, Jaco, and Dragon Ball Minus (for better or worse) are canon. Everything else isn't. By no means does that make th...
