Re: Dragon Ball Daima (2024)

I wouldn’t expect his inclusion either, hell Goku has been to the afterlife on numerous occasions and still didn’t feel it was necessary to look up Grandpa Gohan. I wonder if Toriyama just forgot about him

Re: Dragon Ball Daima (2024)

I think Super offers the superficial stuff that a lot of fans beg for whereas GT did not, Super has endless amounts of transformations, fight scenes, fan fiction concepts and power ups where as GT was heavily criticized for not giving us enough of those things. People wanted to see Vegeta fuck shit...

Re: The end of "Akira Toriyama canon"

I would say that the difference with American comics is that they aren’t very serialized stories in the way that DB is, you do have multiple different continuities that explore the characters in different ways but its often not part of a continuous story line like DB is. I'm not entirely sure how t...

Re: The end of "Akira Toriyama canon"

Technically DB minus didn’t contradict Toriyamas manga, it contradicts the Bardock special which wasn’t written by Toriyama himself. Of course everyone believed that it was canon for the longest time(myself included). I really wish he didnt do that, Gokus origin story was great the way it was and I...

Re: The end of "Akira Toriyama canon"

Dragon Ball canon stop existing when his own creator started recton events in his own manga with modern Dragon Ball, with DB Minus being the biggest offender. I think there was more good than bad from Toriyama's involvement in modern Dragon Ball and I'm grateful than he came back, but it always fel...

Re: The end of "Akira Toriyama canon"

I mean I'm ok with milking the series if its giving us good/meaningful content, I just don’t watch stuff like ROF or the Goku Black saga and feel like I need to see more of it….but at the same token stuff like BOG did feel like a good way to revive the series. So at the end of the day its always gon...

Re: The end of "Akira Toriyama canon"

Julie has a point, once you get the necessity genie out of the bottle everything is fair game. I, for one, wonder if there was a need for Goku's heart to fail him, for time travel, for Yamcha to be turned into a cheater just because, for Bulma to crap all over her friends by dating their killer... ...

Re: The end of "Akira Toriyama canon"

Super has consistent and logical writing. Pretty much everything that happens in Super has a given reason. There are no "inexplicable plot holes" from Super. Even if a development seems completely random or sudden, the story provides some kind of reasoning for it. Also, Yes, it is an impo...

Re: The end of "Akira Toriyama canon"

Suspension of disbelief is more about whether a story is able to follow the logic and the rules that it set for itself. For example If Goku getting shot through the chest by Zorbet was a life threatening situation then logically speaking, getting impaled by Zamasu should be as well. And in fact, wh...

Re: The end of "Akira Toriyama canon"

What is wrong with "suspension of disbelief"? It's a common device that is required to consume any story. Do you not "suspend your disbelief" when you accept that there are magical flying lizards who can spit fire in Lord of the Rings or Game of Thrones? Are you not "suspen...

Re: Dragon Ball Daima (2024)

I like blood and hyper violence, because animators tend to make it look cool. It's a nice flavor to have, and one that I wish wasn't quite for hampered due to the commercial interests of the relatively select few projects that are made. That being said, it's quite obvious that if we were going to g...

Re: The end of "Akira Toriyama canon"

I will say that a lot of the most nonsensical beerus stuff came from Goku Black arc, I think the largest suspension of disbelief needed in BOG itself was the fact that nobody thought to wake Beerus up during the Buu arc given how fearsome Buu was and that he seemingly couldn’t recognize Buu at all. ...

Re: Dragon Ball Daima (2024)

I'm not an especially "bloodthirsty" fan, but I definitely see the appeal in terms of giving Dragon Ball any sense of edge. The Super anime's conspicuous avoidance of blood in key scenes (i.e. after Freeza and #17 successfully tag-teaming Jiren (not like that), Jiren spews out... a puddle...

Re: The end of "Akira Toriyama canon"

We don't always know exactly how involved Toriyama still was with everything. He wasn't equally involved in everything. He did less for the manga and anime than for the films. But I believe his role and impact shouldn't be underestimated. He still wrote the scenarios and outlines for everything, de...

Re: The end of "Akira Toriyama canon"

On the subject of Broly, he became popular because of his design, his perceived badassery, his status as an evil Super Saiyan, and the fact that he’s one of the few movie villains to have a fairly fleshed out backstory. There’s even an element of tragedy to said backstory, which is the kind of thin...

Re: The end of "Akira Toriyama canon"

That is the correct answer lol

I'm just hoping that if we get another DB film, that they go with a completely original antagonist like BOG(I love Beerus) did rather than just reimaginings of existing characters.

Re: The end of "Akira Toriyama canon"

[/b] The character design was Toriyama's, which was the only thing carring Broly's popularity, because Takao Koyama storytelling surely did not. Actually, what carried Broly was his personality (his edgy/cool one-liners) and his fighting style as a crazy brawler who completely dominated the opposit...

DBS Broly is extremely well liked by the DB fanbase no?
