Re: Who were the actual original inhabitants of Planet Veget
Great guides! :) I read your guides on saiyan history and I've come to somewhat different conclusions regarding their planet. I'll share with you: I'd say we can consider Toriyama's note canon, just like how his comments about the Afterlife can be considered canon. It doesn't appear that the note w...

Re: Other animes that are similar to DragonBall?
I hope this is the right section to ask this. I'm looking for the names of other animes, old or new, that are similar to DragonBall in the way it uses the martial arts, kung fu, and various fighting techniques. I'm not into anime all that much, but Iam curious. And I'd like to go onto watching more...

Re: The Thousand-Year Super Saiyan
Well if you embrace the supplemental material, it does tell of a Super Saiyan appearing 1,000 years before Goku's time, and lists it as an actual event on the Time Line. So, it would seem, there's truth to the legend. Even ignoring the Daizenshuu, Freeza himself has a premonition about it, as he st...

Re: Freeza coming to Earth. What was he thinking?
Wasn't it stated that Cold was stronger than Freeza? And that Freeza had become stronger himself? The two of them together had a much bigger chance. Also Cold considered blowing up Earth right away. Since both can 'breath in space' they must have figured that blowing up earth could be an exit route...

Re: So, um, Dragon Ball was pretty "hardcore" in Japan too
I'd say DBZ's target audience is teens 13-18, or at least that is what would be socially accepted by the majority as when "kids" should be able to see this kind of show. That stuff is definitely more "cool" than "adult". Personally I'd let my 10 year old son watch this...

Re: Herms' Guide Guide (Collection of Information Awesomenes
My first post on this page has a quote of Toriyama where he clearly differentiates between "the original story" and the tv specials, and there's another quote of his in which he refers to GT as a "side story". Yeah, that's true, but all that proves is that he forgot whether or n...

Re: Herms' Guide Guide (Collection of Information Awesomenes
Future Trunks special contradicts the manga, so it's not manga-canon. Bardock special doesn't contradict the manga, however we've seen how another special is not manga-canon, so it's pretty safe to say that Bardock special is also non-manga-canon. Plus it wasn't created by AT, and as someone said, ...

Re: Herms' Guide Guide (Collection of Information Awesomenes
Dudes, everything is canon, just different continuities. There's the manga continuity and the anime continuity, among others. That's why I said "manga canon". The Bardock special can fit into both canons, and that Daizenshuu 6 quote supports it. Normally, when people mention "canon&q...

Re: FUNimation DBZ TV Blu-ray Official On-Going Thread
Thank you both The reason the colors are similar is because they used the same film for the Blu-ray remasters that they'd been using since they started dubbing the show years ago. Did they use different film source for the Dragon Box series then? I was always annoyed by the Dragon Box colours lookin...

Re: FUNimation DBZ TV Blu-ray Official On-Going Thread
A strange request from me: Can anyone upload a screenshot from the Edited 1-53 Ocean Dub, preferebly a screenshot from a scene that we can compare with one of the Blu-ray screens? I really like the colour correction on the Blu-Rays and they seem close to the original . I could swear I've seen Dbz be...

Re: Episode of Bardock: Giant On-Going Manga + Anime Discuss
Seen the special. It was fun to watch. I liked the design of Chilled, a typically Toriyama-style badguy with a gut. I can't say I like the animation. This new style looks like everything is made out of rubber. I'm all for old-school hand-drawn animation, just like with old Disney movies which never ...

Re: Who's the mother of Son Goku, Seripa?
There's a reference to Goku's mother in the Manga. Raditz says "Planet Vegeta exploded from a collision with a gigantic meteorite…Almost all of the Saiyans vanished into space dust…Including our father and mother". So both Goku's parents were murdered by Freeza. Seripa was murdered when Ba...

Re: Just how accurate are the Dragon Box colors?
I believe 9300k is the standard colour temperature in Japan, wheras in the west its 6500K. Which is perhaps why the images look better when reducing redness / warmth. Metalwario64 could you try the exact same formula youve used on a different episode from a different saga? Because perhaps its differ...

I reject that mostly because it's such a completely insane power jump. I mean, Goku suddenly raises his power thirty-three times over . The only boosts that go anywhere near that kind of growth are the Fusions (incl. Namekian) or actual transformations. thirty three? 180,000 / 8,000 = 22,5 times. H...

And then there's the idea that the Zenkais are tied to Super Saiya-jin and that they grow larger and larger as a Saiya-jin approaches transforming. So basicly with Goku his jump wasn't from the damage he'd incurred but from his SSJ powers waking up and just needing that last trigger to push him ove...

Here's an old post of mine about the same subject: Quotes from Toriyama: Q: What does the Z in Dragonball Z stand for? A storm wiped out ALL namekians except for Saichoro and Piccolo/Kami. Saichoro then layed a shitload of eggs. Kami said that he had read a letter when he arrived on Earth as a kid and lost his memory, by his parents (katatsu) saying they (?) will come pick him up later. That's what I remember from w...
