Re: Sharing your Dragon Ball Fandom with your kids!
That's cool to hear. Did you ever discuss things about dragon ball with the oldest? Or did you ever write down reactions when he watched episodes? I have a thread here where I wrote lots of reactions from my daugther the first time she watched it. She all preferred the toilet humor and nekkid stuff...

Re: Sharing your Dragon Ball Fandom with your kids!
My oldest has read the whole manga and watched the whole show. He doesn't like it as much as I did growing up, but that's fine. Two of the boys younger than him will watch the movies or show if its, but they're still not super into it. My youngest two are a toddler and a newborn so there's really no...

Yeah it honestly kind of does. I hope he at least does an omake at the end of one of the volumes covering it. Overall thought I absolutely love the manga.

I'm not taking it personally at all, just trying to get you guys to calm down over something so minuscule as people online referring to a manga artist by his first name. Apparently this struck a nerve with you so I'll just drop it, I didn't mean to cause anyone to have a conniption.Kunzait_83 wrote:Rant

Re: When did fans referring to Toriyama on a first name basis first begin?
Hi, westerner here (like Kunzait). I don't call someone I don't know by their first name unless I'm being an obtuse asshole. Hell, I still don't even call my teachers by their first names when I see them shopping and I've been out of school for nearly a decade. It's the weirdest thing in the world ...

Re: When did fans referring to Toriyama on a first name basis first begin?
Fanboy Toriyama-Sensei ramblings. There's no need to get bent all out of shape over some people referring to the guy by his first name. Most of us are Westerners and have the cultural acceptance of referring to people by their first names, and that's fine. If you want to refer to him as Almighty Ka...

Re: Dragonball franchise is getting too complicated for its own good
If you're talking about the manga, it's all "Dragon Ball". The Z was an anime differential that stuck in the West because we got the anime before the manga.Gog wrote:You mean the original OG Dragon Ball? I've read it, it was a good ole' fun ride.

Re: Dragonball franchise is getting too complicated for its own good
42 manga volumes of Vegeta, Freeza, Cell, and Buu. 555 episodes of Vegeta, Freeza, Cell, and Buu + filler, and a battle that takes up 3 hours! 17 Anime movies that only had two good movies, and enough video games retreading the same plot! And people wonder why we want new dragon ball stuff, that is...

I'm no longer deleting the posts. They're staying so you can know for sure. That post right there in between mine? That's not OK. That's a perfect example of what NOT to be. If you're that person, we don't want you here. If you keep it up, we'll make sure you can't visit this website. At all. Ever....

Re: Toriyama's racial/ist character portrayals?
Just because the character isn't African American doesn't mean his appearance isn't clearly based on a racial caricature. Regardless of intention, the dark skinned/gigantic red lips look is a minstrel show staple. Even if he was a black character, like General Black and Killa, they wouldn't necessa...

Re: Toriyama's racial/ist character portrayals?
Did you really just say the Japanese can't be held responsible and that it's the West's fault?
Also, you must never watch prime time comedies on ABC, NBC or CBS because they joke about everyone in their shows.

I perceived that was the sentiment based on the change of the original title. My bad.TripleRach wrote: This isn't even about the word "black" itself being offensive or not.

Re: Why don't they recreate the anime series U good animatio
Because they already did Kai and redrawing the anime now with a new series on the horizon wouldn't make sense. I'd love it if they did, don't get me wrong. But it won't happen for the reasons of time and money.

Re: Toriyama's racial/ist character portrayals?
Have you never read Naruto, One Piece or any other manga? They draw different races with their stereotypical looks. Hell, look at Hikaru no Go even, with the Koreans having very noticeable epicanthic folds compared to the Japanese characters, But nothing in that title is offensive. I don't see why e...

Again: let's not pretend you didn't specifically sign up for a huge website and forum dedicated to a Japanese children's cartoon. I would've thought "Why are they eating balls of rice?" It's not a normal thing for most Americans, let alone American kids, to know about. It's just localization. Cater to the masses, not the weeaboos . If you're going to pull that card, then you're a "weaboo" for liking a Japa...

Herms, mine didn't either, and as a parent now I don't, I let my 6 year old watch the anime on [adult swim] .But I'm just applying the fact that anime was getting ready to boom here, they didn't wanna necessarily ruffle and feathers when they're trying to bring a whole new entertainment to this coun...
