What a surprise, they didn't like the broadcast audio out in the wild!
Even if AB is allowed to continue their upscale, which I doubt, I almost guarantee you box 2 will use Toei's audio masters.

Re: Dragon Ball In an Pal Pitch
I would actually be very interested to hear people's thoughts on this as well. I can provide no expertise but have found some uploads out there to be pitch-corrected ... yet, wouldn't that affect the voices too since the original masters were from 25FPS masters? Always wondered quite how that worked.

Re: Dragon Ball Blue Water Dub
Hi all, I am _well aware_ that I am nercro-ing a rather old thread, but I have a piece of information I think people might find interesting and it didn't warrant a new thread. This was the first one that popped up with a google site search, so I thought this would be the place to go. We all know tha...

Re: AB Video to release original Dragon Ball on Blu-Ray
Frankly, while I think blaming Crunchyroll is a mistake, I think it's *very* possible Toei put the kibosh on the release. Considering how they've standardized releases the past few years (see: green tint across home video Super movie releases rather than Japan-exclusive), they're probably mad that A...

Re: Dragon Ball on Hulu
I'm genuinely surprised nobody has brought up the audio--I am of the opinion that they did some additional EQing for streaming. Broadcast it's not, but it's better than what's on the DVDs!

Re: Ripping Audio From Remastered Dub
Forgive me if I'm wrong, but my understanding is if you use the 5.1 mix with the Kikuchi score, it tends to be easier to isolate vocals as they come from the center channel.
You may be best off doing so here, and re-inserting the Faulconer music yourself.

That's what went into Kai's NEPs, all right. I never thought it had quite the right ring to it.

Re: How is "Ossu! Ora Goku!" translated in your language?
I think it was a one-off, but I always liked "Hey, everyone! Goku here!" in the first Budokai game. Had that great "come along with us!" adventure-y feel that Dragonball deserves.

Kamiccolo hit the nail on the head. This used to be the kind of spot where any and all grammar, even if English was your second language, would get the once-over by a mod if you made the simplest mistake. We're better off for not having that level of moderation. Mike has always struck me as a guy wh...

Re: Are you done with Dragon Ball?
Hmm... I think this is a decent question posed. And it's not necessarily one posed with malice, more to get people thinking. To be honest with y'all, I still -- all these years later -- habitually check this forum to see what's going on. But I didn't watch any Super past the first tournament arc, re...

I wonder what happend with this shot https://www.zupimages.net/up/22/47/pvb7.png lansing, aren't you the person who almost single-handedly got the color correction thread locked? Please don't do that here, too. I would encourage you to look through this thread instead of spouting patently false inf...

Re: Dragon Ball's Popularity with Teens and Children
I think DB is a legacy product in English-speaking countries at this point a-la a Hanna Barbera cartoon. We all know about it, and even if the obsession isn't there, you've got more general knowledge about the franchise than other products that came from the era (80s etc.) There's still a ton of mer...

Re: Are these four main women in Dragon Ball really "just house wives"?
Man, this really turned into a can of worms. Not shocking, but I have to admit, I'm a little disappointed in the lack of nuance in some otherwise well-articulated arguments here. When it comes to Chi-Chi, we have to remember that comparing anime Chi-Chi to manga Chi-Chi is two very different beasts....

Re: Variety - "Crunchyroll Is Adding All Funimation Anime Content, Sony Starts to Phase Out Funimation Brand"
I hope this doesn't result in too many layoffs at FUNi's Texas offices. This usually means consolidation, forced relocation, etc. We may also have to contend with speedsubs becoming the norm on home video releases, as well, now. Why bother hiring accredited, trusted translators when crowdsourcing to...

Re: Nozawa and the nuances of acting being lost on the new generation of Seiyuu
I think she has a point, and it's not the first time she has made such a claim. In fact, we've discussed such -- along with similar points made by Sonny Strait -- on this very website! The idea of just becoming a "voice actor" as compared to an "actor" has really proliferated in ...

Re: Lack of Other OP and ED's on FUNi's airings/releases of OG DB.
Funimation didn't receive digibeta tapes from Toei, they received 16mm film prints, which Funimation then had transferred to tape. Those 16mm films themselves only used the first OP and ED. Do you have a source on this? We know they got film stock for the movies due to their HD masters, but I've lo...

Re: Looking for HQ DVD Cover scans of The History of Trunks, Bardock The Father of Goku, and Super Android 13 DVDs
They won't measure up to the, frankly excellent, scan provided for the Trunks special, but these two I found should print out at least decently: Super Android 13 Bardock I searched on google, then used tineye to find the largest possible match. Took only a few minutes. Hope it works, and if they don...

Re: Why did 4Kids One Piece FAIL while Funimation's Dragon Ball succeeded?
Yeah, the pacing is also a thing. Toonami was pooping out five episodes a week, which was much more befitting of the serialized nature of both cartoons. This is a really, really solid point. Speaking as someone *glued* to Toonami during the DB & Z run, I can say with confidence that helped keep...

Hi, Sporadic lurker chiming in to offer an opinion. As someone accustomed to the optical audio and the Japanese voices, I found it didn't drastically change my enjoyment experience. For me, it was a bonus and nothing more. However, if you haven't been able to get past the quality beforehand, I think...

Re: Funimations 30th anniversary collectible home video release
Wow. Far as I'm concerned, this looks *fine*. I admit it's not ideal, but to call this a disaster is laughably obnoxious. It's definitely an upgrade from anything they've given us before. If you ask me it looks significantly better than the previous blu-ray, even ignoring the cropping. There could b...
