Re: How Eguchi Hisashi's Manga About a Trans Girl Nearly Ended "Dr. Slump" Early
This is all super fascinating stuff, but as always, I wonder if the real story is somewhere in the middle, or at least muddled a little bit. We've been repeatedly told that Dr. Slump 's popularity started taking off wildly once things like tournaments and longer story arcs were introduced... which ...

Re: Dragon Ball Daima (2024)
Goku used to kill anyone, that is until he met Android 8. Android 8 taught Goku that killing isn't the right way to solve a problem. Then once Goku trained with Mr Popo and Kami, he stopped killing villains. However Goku told Future Trunks that sometimes some villains needs to die. Goku isn't 100% ...

Re: Dragon Ball Daima (2024)
Goku's thing has always been, "Well if shit goes wrong, I'll just beat them up again." Most of Goku's recklessness isn't from apathy of the consequences, he's just sure he can handle those consequences, and that's been consistent since early DB. And again, why do people always leave out th...

Re: Fanmanga - DB Multiverse
This special is painfully dumb. Somehow it's even WORSE than the DBM classic "everyone dies!" specials, in this we're watching some truly egregious character assassination to try to explain something that only gets worse the more you try to explain it. The future timeline doesn't need mor...

Re: Is original Dragon Ball really that unpopular?
I think it's just the cost of escalation and the most iconic (and more importantly, marketable), series-defining moments and characters coming in much later. You can't even blame it on Funimation presenting the series out of order because even Japan puts Z front and center and treats the Kid Goku ye...

Re: Dragon Ball and Centrism disguised as "A Desire for works to stop being political"
I think the perception that media is more political has more to do with a lot of shows and movies these days being much more heavy handed and performative with the political overtones than in year's past, because modern writers - or maybe not even writers, just the executives that have an increasing...

Re: Funimation Release Doesn't Include DB OP2 & END 2-4
Minor pedantic correction. The Funimation release does have the second ending. They don't have the first ending The two endings are nearly identical but the second ending is updated to include Kuririn and Lunch and omits some scenes in its place like a cross dressing scene between Bulma and the boy...

Also, here's the Toonami bumper tribute: https://youtu.be/EgUDezBUq88?si=gEl7NYhV_Vf2J1R9 I was kinda hoping they'd do more, like have TOM say a few words, but I guess it was so short notice they couldn't do much else in time. Is it just me or did Stan Lee not even get this big of a reaction after ...

Re: AB Video to release original Dragon Ball on Blu-Ray
Why would FUNimation get film masters back in the 90s? They barely had any money & were just getting started. I don't understand why they'd get film stock at the start. It makes more sense to me that Toei just sent either digi beta tapes, or VHS tapes of the show for them to dub over, then FUNi...

Re: Did Yū Kondō have any known nfluence on Dragon Ball?
After Toriyama came up with Cell, Kondo wasn't keen on the design and said he should have a transformation. And then he hated Semi-Perfect Cell's design and wanted something better for his Perfect form. He also pushed Toriyama to keep escalating the scale of the fights. I think he and Toriyama also ...

Re: Non-thread-worthy discussions
Not necessarily saying it's a fault... But an oddity unless there's some logical explanation to it. I just drew attention to it because the realization coming after Vegeta not sensing any killing intention yet mentioning later on such is specific for SSJs comes off, apparently, as contradictory... ...

Re: The Cell Saga is the most existential in the series
good post To add to this, a key part of this arc and something that greatly differentiates it from the Buu arc is that while a lot of the story developments are triggered by characters making horrible decisions, all of the bad decisions in this arc are driven by established flaws and quirks in ever...

Re: Goku letting Vegeta go is a very touching scene
Nobody Goku fought in original Dragon Ball was as strong as Vegeta. In his own words all that training he did in the afterlife and he still couldn't compare. Why would Goku keep Tao or Daimao or Piccolo Daimao's children alive when he became much stronger than that? Piccolo Jr already set a precede...
