Re: Vegeta's initial plan for immortality

Look, they specifically talked about this in the show. Remember just before the Ginyu Corps had arrived, Vegeta was able to sense them approaching the planet? After he expressed to Gohan and Kuririn that there was no way to defeat Ginyu and his men (as they were each at least as strong as he was), h...

Re: The original Future Trunks

Bussani kind of already said this, but if the Dragon Balls from the past could effect events in future (AND in alternate realities, since you can never travel to the past of your own reality) Trunks would have just traveled back in time, used the Dragon Balls to wish everyone in his time back, and l...

Re: Dragon Box Z 2's Hands On Discussion

I think it has something to do with the fact hat some of those episodes were printed on 35mm film prints instead of the usual 16mm prints. I know there was a thread about this somewhere... Yeah, I think I remember something like that. I remember noticing a difference with those episodes on the Oran...

Re: Dragon Box Z 2's Hands On Discussion

Man, am I taking my sweet time watching these. Got a lot of other unwatched shows... So I was just watching disc 11 the other day, and I was struck by an extremely noticeable change in color contrast going from episode 72 to 73. Like where you would see scene for episode 73 in the preview, but when ...

Re: Dragon Box Z 2's Hands On Discussion

Aside from the ignorant whining about grain, that was a pretty fair review. Well, grain IS annoying, regardless of whether it should be there or not. Grain in and of itself isn't annoying. It can be annoying on DVD because it seems to make almost unavoidable compression artifacts. Grain on Blu-ray ...

Re: Splicing the Orange Brick dub track onto the Dragon Boxes?

The downside to this is that you'd need to make your own menus instead of using the ones from the DBox. I don't know how you'd go about keeping them. People generally use VobBlanker to keep original menus. You load the original DVD and then choose the option to replace the main PGC with the VOBs th...

Re: Difference between Remastered and Dragonbox

Yeah, you can learn to recognize the kanji for certain actors of staffpersons' names after a while. The character names are pretty simple to read because a lot of them are katakana (Cell, Bulma, Freeza, etc...). This is only if you actually care about names and ideas behind who makes your favorite a...

Re: Did the Anime Forget Zarbon's Line?

When could they have met up to chat off-screen? What did they just quit beating the crap out of each other to take a breather and exchange menacing threats...? (It's not like DBZ isn't famous for that or anything...)

Re: Frame by Frame Re-mastering? (Warning: Semi-Ranty)

Heh, that's nothing. You should see the HD remastered Macross DVDs. The film splices are pretty obvious on that.

The Dragonboxes may not look as good as film masterings of more recent TV series, but their level of quality is practically unheard of for a 16mm TV anime this old.

Re: FUNimation Announces "Kai" License ("DBZ Kai")

Hmm... I think Dragon Ball Z Kai actually makes more sense as the title. Since it is really just a redo of Dragon Ball Z. It's not like they started over at the beginning or anything.

Re: Names & Phrases: Translate or Not?

I usually don't use any terms in normal discussion that arn't actually spoken by any of the characters in the series. That includes terms that are technically official due their presence in official reference materials. But that doesn't actually fall into the discussion of translate or not. I just s...

Re: Mr. Satan - A Good Idea?

Mr. Satan is simply Kuririn if he was failed, since Kuririn was kinda into women and a leisury lifestyle for a moment in Dragonball. Hey, I never thought about that... Kuririn is always complaining about how Mr. Satan is just an attention whoring trickster, but he kinda used to be like that too as ...

Re: Vegeta's Random Power-Up In The Freeza Arc

What term would we use to replace it? There is no term to replace it, because there is no real term for that. You might as well call it the Dragonball "Near-Death Recovery Powerup™." As for what the original poster was asking, the reason we went from Vegeta being shocked that Gokuu was so...

Re: Dragon Ball: Introduction into manga/anime?

Well, you could say that Dragonball introduced me to the idea that anime existed, it didn't really get me interested in anime. The series that was really my intro to manga/anime was Yu-Gi-Oh! It was while searching online for information about future Yu-Gi-Oh! episodes that I first got back into DBZ...

And besides don't you think the first thing a smart tactician like Vegeta would do would be to find and destroy one of the Dragonballs to prevent someone like Freeza from also becoming immortal...?! Although, it's never been proven that the Dragonballs can be destroyed (except by killing the one who...

Since it's a short show you can pick it up for the whole DBZ DBOX release of $420 or less at amazon japan. These are way better than the FUNi sets, just get the subs and you're good to go. Edit: Actual price for the entire single release. 511.05 What do you mean by "just get the subs and you'r...

Re: What happened to "hard to adapt" manga jokes?

Hmm... that's a good point. In Gintama all of the break-the-fourth-wall "This is a manga!" jokes are changed to "This is an anime!" jokes for the TV animated version. For example the joke in the first chapter where Shinpachi complains that Gin, who supposed was going to save the ...
