Re: Dub lines that you find interesting.
I've never understood how Goku's response of "It's the Kame-sen'nin style of martial arts" made it into the dub in 1996 (to the ogre after meeting with Enma). I'm still flabbergasted and fascinated 22 years later. The line isn't really wrong though, is it? The Kamehameha would be the key ...

Re: Dub lines that you find interesting.
The next dimension lines were always interesting to me sometimes the show was basically treating it like death and it was just a more sci fi heavy variant of heaven/hell/other world/afterlife other times it felt like the show was trying to say “Don’t worry nobody dies in this stort they just get be...

Re: Do you prefer “human” or “mortal” for the non-deities?
And now we're getting into the realm of channeling good ol' Barry Watson and the '90s FUNimation team. Let's not even translate things. Let's just change the words completely because I don't like them. I feel like this might be part of the issue, actually. For the longest time Funimation insisted t...

Re: Dub lines that you find interesting.
There's this one dub line where after Freeza sees Nail regrow an arm he says, "I'm going to have to make a copy of that." That always baffled me. When has Freeza gone around copying abilities? I love this line because they created a plothole in order to make a dad joke ("... it might...

Re: Do you prefer “human” or “mortal” for the non-deities?
If I had to choose between the two I'd be in the "human" minority, if only because "mortal" only really works when set up against the gods, and the gods are not immortal . That is, neither translation really "works" but it's easier for me to expand the definition of hum...

Re: Why is Earth so special?
Aside from Earth, we've only seen planets Vegeta and Namek, and Vegeta is destroyed before the start so we don't really get a good look at it. On Namek, the Great Elder seems to perform the same role as the God of Earth, so maybe Namek simply does not need a God. As for Vegeta, maybe it did have a G...

Re: If Goku is such an inadequate spouse, then why...
The fandom seems to have the impression of Goku being a deadbeat dad and husband who is never there for his family. The TFS memes about Piccolo being Gohan's dad and such probably don't help, either. The problem with this is that we only ever see the exciting actiony stuff, when Goku has to fight or...

Hey, at least this shows more consistency than Funimation's translation did.DBZ Macky wrote:What's even more annoying is the use of "King-Kai Fist".

Re: Things that grind your gears
People pronouncing Oozaru wrong, like most of the DB YouTubers. They treat it as if it was an English word saying "ooze-aru" when its "oh-zaru". It's mostly an issue of the 大 kanji having an unusual spelling of the long o, though. This aslo grinds my gears. But to be fair these ...

Re: Does Piccolo beings an alien make his former title "Demon King" less valid?
Not any more than God being an alien makes his title of God less valid. Nowhere it is suggested that Piccolo's alien ancestry invalidated his past as a demon. It is indeed suggested by God (also an alien, and a god) that Piccolo is no longer his demonic self when Goku and Raditz pass on to the after...

those fans who think that its fine to skip og dragon ball and start with Z Does anyone here actually think that? Not sure if fans here think it's fine. Over at the dbz subreddit I'm always seeing post like, " Why should I watch DB ", " How to get into Dbz ", or " Is it okay...

They don't. The term is never actually used in-universe.Dorexx wrote:why would the Z Warriors call themselves that as well?
I don't think it's ever explained where the "Z Sword" got its name. It's probably just supposed to sound cool or something.

Well there goes universe 8... They would have easily stomped anyway.
I'll switch to universe 4, then. 4 is half of 8 so it's sort of the same thing.

Frost Demon was also used once in the English localization for Xenoverse, which gives it a quasi-official standing (in the rest of the game, outside this one scene, they are called the Freeza Race and/or Freeza Clan). But, AFAIK it's not in the original Japanese. This name bugs me probably even more...

Re: Did King Cold find it unnecessary to inform Freeza about Dabura and Supreme Kai?
Cold was weaker than Freeza, who was way below Dabra in terms of power. So it has nothing to do with strength. If King Cold knew about Kaioshin, he would likewise know that Kaioshin tends to only intervene when absolutely necessary and otherwise mostly stays in the Kaioshin realm. Boo, on the other ...

Re: Things that grind your gears
Fans using the term "ningen" as some pretentious, exotic phrase for the beings that Zamasu hates (e.g. "mortals"). I've noticed people doing this too, but it seems to be mostly confined to meme-y contexts. On a related note, people referring to humans (in the DB sense) as "...

In the Demon Guide , God is referred to as God in the section about Piccolo ... since Piccolo Daimaō was born from the evil in God’s heart ... but is referred to as Kami in the section about Garlic ... Re. "Gohan is considered an Earthling" As far as I'm aware, he isn't. He's classified with the Saiyans, even though logically he's just as much Earthling as Saiyan. If you're referring to Daizenshuu #4 here... that's not Goku's son Gohan, but rather the elder ("Grandpa") Gohan. T...

Re: Things that grind your gears
They probably avoided referring to it as the Zamasu arc because that would spoil Zamasu's involvement in the story; him being the big bad of the arc was meant to be sort of a surprise. However, since arcs generally are named for the big bad, calling it Zamasu arc would be keeping consistent with tha...
