Why do the Son family and Krillin live where they do?

I'm just wondering if anyone has the answer for this question. As for the Son family, why do they live in the middle of nowhere? What exactly do they do out there? And as for Krillin, why does he still live with Master Roshi?

Re: DBGT's "Goku and Pan obsession"

I think anime is the wrong thing to watch to find feminism, and I really wouldn't read too much into DBZ's depictions of women. I think it's just a basic reflection about Japanese attitudes towards women and Toriyama's attitudes towards them. And having women in media aimed at boys generally doesn't...

How would you rather see (Buu era) Teen Gohan?

A lot of people don't like Teen Gohan's portrayal in the Buu Saga, so I'm wondering how other people would rather have him be. I guess he was too comical?

Personally, I'm a big Evangelion fan, so I could see Gohan being a lot like Shinji with all the issues, but no so wimpy.

Re: DB relationships

Yaoi's fandom seems to be more active than yuri's at all. Yuri fics not based on series considered as yuri seems to be pretty rare at all. Well, first of all, there are a lot more guys than girls. Really, there's only like...four girls, and they aren't really portrayed that attractively. Also, what...

Re: Goku's Japanese voice

I mean in every other dub Goku has a male voice, of course because he IS male. That's rather weird to me. Why is Tommy Pickles played by a female? Why is Timmy Turner? Why is Peter Pan? Why is Edna Mode played by a male? Honestly, if the actor has to be just like the character, you could easily say...

Re: Asperger's Syndrome and Dragon Ball

If I didn't have Asperger's, I'm quite sure I never would have started up my BGM documentation . And while it definitely sucks to have to deal with this in real life, where absolutely no one I know can relate to having a fandom so crazed they document each and every piece of music in a favorite ser...

What did Goku and family do after the Buu saga?

Two years later after the Buu saga, if we go by the 2008 special, we know that he is now a turnip farmer, but it seems like from his dialogue that he and Chichi have only started farming recently. So what has he and his family been doing in the meantime? Or am I reading too much into the dialogue?

Re: Aspects You Wish Were Expanded Upon

Obviously, Toriyama didn't want to push the story in that direction, and it can be justified story-wise, but I think it would've been interesting to see with how Gohan would deal with the things that would be traumatic with other people (dad dying-twice, training with Piccolo, going to Namek, etc).

Re: Was introducing power levels a mistake?

I am thinking they are inconsistent in the way they don't scale consistently and have very weak correlation. It's spiritual energy basically, it's not going to go up in certain sets. It's going to be as random as nature in terms of increasing. But you're not going to decrease in power from training...

Re: Was introducing power levels a mistake?

Personally, I dislike power levels. They become more and more arbitrary as the series goes on and simplify an idea that could be complicated (combat) and reduce it to a single number. They're inconsistent and don't convey anything that can be meaningfully translated into the story. They're not inco...

Re: Aspects You Wish Were Expanded Upon

I would've liked to see Gohan's potential psychological issues expanded on. But this is Dragonball, a manga for 8 year olds, so obviously that isn't happening.

Re: DB relationships

I read a violent fic where, when future trunks returns to his time he kills 17 and 18 brutally and sadistically. For 18 however, she was brutally raped beforehand, with Trunks yelling the pain of his dead family and loved ones in her face while she was suffering and begging for mercy. -shudders- St...

Re: Asperger's Syndrome and Dragon Ball

lol The mom of an ex-friend with Asperger's syndrome always insisted that I had Asperger's syndrome, but I don't think so. I guess I have problems with social interactions (not in theory, just performing them, but also not enough for me to want to get professional help) and I happen to like Dragonba...
